I am so upset with myself! I called two days ago to check on the dolphin encounter and got more info on it. I told her I will think about it- we had a ton of change (money) to take and cash in yesterday. So sure enough we had MUCH MUCH more than we thought. We had $332.00 instead of the $175 we had guessed we had. So I called right away this morning to book the Dolphin Encounter and IT'S BOOKED UP!! Man I am so upset! Is there any other way of doing the encounter besides thru the cruise line and also called them direct and they are booked too!! UGH! So I thought we COULD settle for the Stingray City thing- anyone done this before- how is it? I am going to keep calling and hoping for cancellation for encounter, but I want to do SOMETHING fun off the ship too. HELP.:( :( :( :(

We swam at Stingray City on our honeymoon cruise 10 years ago, it was awesome! The ride out there is beautiful, the water is beautiful, and the stingrays will eat right out of your hand. (It feels like a little vacuum.) Apparently a guy who used to dive the "wall" out there started feeding them and they got used to humans. When our guide took out a red bucket with food in it and put it in the water they came from everywhere. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Our guide told us on our stingray excursion that the reason the stingrays are so tame is that for the last hundred years or so the local fisherman used to clean their nets at that spot and the stingrays since have gotten very used to the sound of people and boats.

We had an awesome time. Here is a link to some of our photos from that day. We did the Captain Marvin tour on our own and I booked online two days before.

Your link didn't work for me- says "you are not owner of this" and something about logging in. But I would be interested in seeing the pics, if you can try it again.....thanks
I am a little leary about doing excursions on our own, but gosh, if this is pretty neat, I think we will. Now, what all tickets do I have to buy in advance and is it going to be super obvious as to where to get on the ferry to get over there? Describe to me from getting off the ship to getting over to the Stingray place. Thanks

Check out Captain Marvin's website at:

They were great! Price is better than the Disney excursion and groupas are much smaller. We had 11 in our group (including the 4 of us) and 2 guides that paid lots of attention to the children at Stingray City.
