So, did the Poly announcement throw a curveball into your VGF (or other DVC) plans?

I have been wanting to add a MK resort to our home resorts but could never pick on. Nothing ever checks all the boxes that I am looking for. My fav is GF but DH hates it and won’t stay there. I was really considered bugging DH daily until he just gave in and let us get VGF to use as SAP but now I will hold out for Poly.
Everyone in the family likes Poly and I really like that it finally checks all of the boxes in what we want as an MK home resort. I am also happy to have 2 more years to save. Our 4 year old finishes daycare this June. We have a 7 year old and almost 5 year old. The amount we just spent on daycare for these 2 kids over the last 7 years could have paid for a lot of DVC points.
I probably would have pushes harder for VGF if they hadn’t gone with the resort studios. If they announce only studios or resort studios for the Poly tower I would be out.

I agree! 2 extra years to save is fine by me. We plan to buy 150-200 points (no small chunk of change), so I’ll take the extra time. Plus, by then I’ll have a lot less childcare expenses, as my kids will be in school (or just about).

We own at Riviera (we love), but our second favorite is Poly, and this new building looks great to us.

I feel your pain on this one.... We are done with daycare in 2024 so Poly will be good timing for us.

We were going to pull the trigger on VGF yesterday because of the direct pricing and wanting a monorail resort; however, Poly is my favorite MK resort and I was already second guessing our decision before this news dropped.

I am hoping for a mix of rooms in the current association and that they sleep five and up. I was really disappointed that the studio heavy DLT will only sleeps four in a studio. If this turns out to be a new association and it is studio heavy and doesn't sleep five then we would be forced to look elsewhere again.

Two years in a long time to wait for any truly new buyers. But for existing owners who were merely thinking about adding points, this announcement would definitely give pause. I was toying with the idea of adding GFV points, but I really don't "need" them now, and the Poly announcement definitely put any such thoughts on hold.
While I know some people are already hating the look of the new Poly addition, I'm actually cautiously optimistic (of course, I happen to love the Riviera).
So yes, a DVC built steps from Bay Lake, with its own infinity pool, brand new rooms... I can wait 2 years for that. I'll likely only have 1-2 trips between now and late 2024 anyway.

I've been considering a small VGF add on but I like this new tower. Heck I was wanting to buy Reflections and this looks a lot like Reflections. I know, its not well themed etc..I agree, shush I like it. Problem is I am getting into the realm of having more points than sense for our needs.

Adding a third home resort at WDW means I would have to bank and be forced to visit every year to make it work. Right now we go for 2 weeks annually but have the choice to bank and go every 2 years in a 1 bed.

Same issue... I really don't want to be stuck with "too many points" really forcing me to take more trips than I actually want, or go through the trouble of renting out points.
So the question for me, if I add points... do I want more 2-br and Grand Villa trips...

I am surprised that the Poly addition/new association whichever it turns out to be dropped before VGF2 sales even opened to the public, but I have no buyer’s remorse for my VGF add on. I already owned at VGF1 & needed more points to get out of borrowing mode there & having VGF1&2 as part of the same association was perfect for me.
If I already owned at the Poly I’d be concerned that the new building wouldn’t be part of Poly1 & the possibility that I couldn’t use Poly1 points at the new building until 7 months or if newer resale at all.
My impression is that the Poly & the GF appeal to different folks. The Poly has a strong following that enjoys its’ energetic resort experience who aren’t bothered by the crowds that pack the resort, the GF has a strong following that enjoys the more spacious lobby & grounds & retreating from the crowds at the parks. The 2 resorts will be more evenly balanced now - Poly folks will be able to opt for 1 - 3 bedroom villas & VGF folks will have more studios.
My biggest concerns are the impact of the construction on stays at VGF in the next 2 years & thereafter on the shared buses which stop at the Poly before the GF.
I do like the lush landscaping at the Poly & think it’s unfortunate they didn’t opt for a lazy River type pool v. the cost cutting ‘infinity pool’ but I suppose space is limited where they’re building & at least they’re adding a pool rather than just adding bodies to the 2 pools already there. The front of the new building has a very DL DTD vibe to me which seems very different from the rest of the Poly grounds but the new building looks a bit more interesting than the generic Riviera grey monolith & it’s nice that they’re adding a waterfall feature to the exterior since I miss the one that was in the Poly lobby.
The new dinning options will be a short stroll from the VGF1 building so once construction is completed I’ll be able to easily enjoy whatever dinning options the new building brings.

Poly's room choices were an issue, but the quality was as well. If you didn't like RIV's restrictions, that left you with some aging hotel flips and the new VGF1 building in recent offerings. I also think this could fix another major con of Poly, the noise. This building will be new, so it has to be better (right?) and further from the boats. I can see a lot of people wanting to upgrade their points into Poly. It has the pros of a shiny new building, but with the charm of Poly and I'd argue a much better location. It's an excellent choice for many.

Your post got me thinking again. Could they have dropped this now for the sole purpose of sparking direct sales at both VGF and RIV to create FOMO?

I can see the guides….”We do not know yet but if you buy direct, you will definitely be eligible to book there. Resale are restricted to future resorts and this could turn into one..we just don’t know yet.”

Based on Riviera, I wouldn't bet on better noise insulation! Those old poly longhouses are solid concrete.

Yea... That feels really timeshare-y. I can't picture Disney legal being thrilled with this conversation. They've got to announce what association it will be.

Yea, I just canceled my contract for VGF2. I like VGF but I LOVE Poly, and don’t need points at both so prefer to wait for Poly and get the 11 month advantage with my points, in case any categories are hard to book at 7.

I was ready to buy a small poly add on in a couple weeks. At first I was thrilled with the rooms but then realized that although they are beautiful, they don’t feel like vacation to me. I didn’t have peace about adding at VGF but thought the price was right and liked how there wouldn’t be resale restrictions. Yet, I kept contemplating adding at AKL (don’t really want 7 years less on the contract), or more points at riviera (don’t want to own too many there though with the restrictions). The poly news worked out perfect for me! The only problem will be waiting. I’m also nervous to see what the price might be in two years which does have me still considering adding on somewhere else now. Any thoughts on poly pricing? Will it be a bad financial decision to wait?

Heck, NO! We've never been fond of the Poly and now like it even less after lousy service there last fall.

We'll stick with our longtime love, VGF, and be happy as anything.

I bet they haven't even made that decision.
And as far as legal goes, the sales reps merely need to hold the "no comment" line on re-sale. They can easily say, "yes, direct buyers at Riviera and GFV will have access to these new rooms at the 7 month mark."
The sales reps shouldn't really be volunteering anything about re-sale. If specifically asked about re-sale, they can honestly respond, "I don't know"

The timing of the announcement makes no sense in the context of GFV sales. You wouldn't want to announce something potentially even newer and better right when you're starting sales of GFV. This generally would hurt sales of GFV as it can encourage people to wait.

BUT, the announcement timing likely had nothing to do with sales of GFV -- it's a simple matter of controlling the information. Making the public announcement before it all leaked out, outside of Disney's control. They will be filing for permits soon, they will likely start construction this year. And thus the timing of the announcement.

And this isn't uncommon --- Disney announced Reflections just a few months before they started sales of Riviera. Again, the practicality of making the announcement before it leaks out anyway.

In terms of sales, the only advantage of announcing a future project just as you start sales of an existing project, is that you are demonstrating continued growth to the buyer. "
If you buy direct, you unlock the magic of 14 current properties and out future properties!... and we are already adding future properties!"

No changes to my buying plans. Planning for a small 50-75 point contract at DLT (am local and like to do several staycations per year at Disneyland) to go with my 100 at VGC.

Now, if they announced something in the Epcot area (like maybe a Yacht club conversion), I would be buying. I love staying in that area. Thankfully, I have had decent luck getting Boardwalk at 7 months in September several times to get me over there quite a bit. But would love to own over there, but the 2042 date just holds 0 appeal to me.

Bus? YUCKOLA! It's a lovely stroll from MK to GF to Poly now. Otherwise, I'm a monorail or boat-only sort.

We walked from MK all the way to the TTC last trip just because we finally could after all these years of "Will Disney EVER get a walkway from GF to MK?" 😍

The new dinning options will be a short stroll from the VGF1 building so once construction is completed I’ll be able to easily enjoy whatever dinning options the new building brings.

Yeah, because there are so few at the GF.... ;)

Well, actually, there are a lot fewer until they get 1900 PF, Garden View Tea Room and the essential V&A's open again. 😁

I have to say I am in the same boat.

I was going to add 200 VGF2 and asked my guide (so I am in the 10 day cooling off).

But I don't need any points having 3,300 already.

I have 350 Poly / 600 VGF

Not sure what to do now.......
