So basically all has been for nothing? Won't get in?

Yes I overthink things do I do it on purpose? No that's just the way I've learned to expect the worse and be grateful if anything good comes along. This trip is very special, and honestly I think it will be the best one yet out of the countless times Ive been. However, this is also the one I've had to fight for, work , and survive for. Literally every other week something has gone wrong.

I'm sorry if I post freak outs due to bad advice. I just want this trip to be special as it can be, and being told you probably won't get in? Come on that would effect even the most stable of people even just a tad.

I've calmed down took a chill pill (played life's what you make it about 10times) and decided the attitude I'm going to Disney is : we're going to get in and have fun, if not the $200 for tickets wasn't wasted because I'm still on a trip with best friend. (Will I still be a tad nervous? Possibly lol)

I think the difference between expecting the worst and trying to create a self-fulfilling prophecy is where people are weary. I am definitely a pessimist in the sense I plan for the worst scenario and come away thrilled and happily surprised if it doesn't happen... but I don't spend so much time stressing out about the worst case scenario that I start things negatively.

For instance, I have a group of 12 going over Christmas week... it's not my ideal situation as I know it's going to be jammed and most of the family are newbies but I can plan for the fact it is supposed to be crazy busy and still build a positive experience. And, I have had some major snafus with this trip but figure I'm a magnet for irony and it's a way of making it seem that much more relaxing in the end. I am serious when I say I am planning for the worst but I am planning - instead of waiting for rides, we'll catch a list of shows I printed out... or we'll hunt hidden Mickeys in the decorations. Even as a 'worst case' it's still positive.

You seem to want people to tell you it's going to be impossible to get in and, yes, it is a waste - otherwise you wouldn't have needed so many random strangers posting the opposite. I'm not sure what CMs you spoke to, but they are wrong - any search of the DIS boards from previous years will tell you when parks hit phases of closing and I have yet to see one for the 21st. I'm not sure who gave you the idea that the park just shuts down for the day - even with phased closings, it takes a lot to turn away resort guests with an ADR... seriously, A LOT. Finally, worst case scenario is that you can't get in right at 1pm but you still would have HOURS upon HOURS to tour and play... and that really is the worst case scenario.

Take a breath and sit back; nothing you do at this moment will change what happens with crowds on Sunday so just think about what you want to do when you get in and how awesome it will be to see the castle decked in lights!

Sixteen posters have advised you not to be concerned, have described the closure levels, and have explained why those "some people" shouldn't be listened to. If you're going to continue to dispute experienced, knowledgeable people from whom you requested help, fine. You might want to consider seeking advice from your own experts on the other aspects of your trip as well.

But then he wouldn't have anything to freak out about. Until the next thing.

Scheduled for thunderstorms. lol

Working? My kids were usually watching movies in classes that close to a holiday here in Howard County. :santa:

Not in my school in A.A. County....it's business as usual.

I doubt in any school students are watching movies for hours at a time. Maybe one video, but not hours.

Yep.

Public school teacher chiming in from Maryland here......we are still working a FULL DAY here on Dec. 23 .:sad2: Our first day of break is not until Christmas Eve. :teacher:

Down here in the sticks of St Mary's County, the kids are out this week but the teachers are in until Tuesday, I believe. I was shocked they made Friday the last day as I was expecting them to go Monday and half-day Tuesday.

and my grandkids are in school through a full day on 12/23. I've never heard of kids getting the entire week BEFORE Xmas off, not around here anyway.

In my part of Texas, school gets out this Thursday, 12/18. They don't go back until Tuesday 1/6.

Our kids get two weeks for Christmas. Always ending on a Friday and starting again on a Monday. The division between before/after Christmas depends on when Christmas falls as it always starts the Friday before Christmas. This year, the last day is the 19th and they go back on the 5th of January.

ETA - I'm pretty sure that if Christmas Day is a Saturday or Sunday, they get off the week before. So, in 2016, when Christmas Day is a Saturday, their last day of school will be the 16th and they'll go back on the 2nd.

Also, here (Ontario), Christmas Day, Boxing Day (26-December) and New Year's day are all Statutory Holidays.

no i wasn't wanting someone to flat out tell me that the worst would happen i was hoping for a garuntee of just the opposite.
i know you can't really ever get that due to nothing is. but i freaked out I'm sorry. if you walked a day in my shoes you might to at times, i already said i was trying to change my point of view

here the schools get out wed-thursaday this week, colleges have been out since last week depending on when finals were.

After reading the OP's comment about not getting into the MK on Saturday, I was like "what"? In all the trips I've taken, I've never followed any sort of touring plans but decided to do a little extra "homework" for this upcoming trip since we've never been during this time of year and had heard about crazy crowds. I literally just went back to take another look at Josh's site along with TP's site and both still have this upcoming Saturday as a 7 which to me is great considering I've gone when the crowd level was much higher and the parks didn't close & were completely manageable. As for school breaks, my youngest has school right thru the 23rd (Massachusetts) so not all schools will be out by this weekend.

OP...I'm pretty sure all will be fine. Enjoy your trip!

In 2016 Christmas is actually on Sunday. That pesky leap year makes us miss out on Christmas Saturday.

Ok so after so many obstacle freak outs, panic attacks, and even severe car accident its gonna play out all for naught?! We have a conference this week and we leave in two days the only day we have for a park is the 20th and we don't get to go to the magic kingdom till 1pm
It's scheduled to be thunderstorms and high crowds, and now everyone going to the conference has been told there's a high chance we won't be admitted into the park due to crowd levels and our timing. So that's it we lose? I have an ADR for be our guest and it was supposed to be park day would be highlight of the trip and now with being told we probably won't get in I wanna cry :(

What? Do you have to use one of your 3 FP+ selections for the scheduled thunderstorm? :confused3

You're right. I'm a moron (I was even looking at a calendar). The kids still have the 16th as their last day in 2016.

OP I don't blame you for freaking out, because quite honestly, I would be too. I am an uber planner and tend to get anxious if things have a chance of not going as I have planned.

That being said, even if the parks reach a Phase 3 closure, you will still be able to get in because of your ADR. And even if it reaches a Phase 4 (which I highly doubt it will), as a PP said, it will not last all day.

Try not to worry about it (I know easier said than done) as this is something that is completely out of your hands.

Take a deep breath, put on your mouse ears, and have a great trip!!

:goodvibes

amazed at the number of kids that get a lengthy Xmas break! Mine would have killed for that. Of course, parents would have died on their own! Maybe its a New England thing to only get from the day before Xmas Eve until 1/2.

Wow, I'm surprised at the posts of kids who don't get out until the 23rd and go back the 2nd. Looks like it is mostly east coast?

We are in the Midwest and here and in the surrounding states the kids get 10 school days (2 weeks) off. Most places it starts the Friday before Christmas Eve, so if Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday, then they would not get out until the 23rd, but would wind up out more days in January. This year, their last day is the 19th and they go back the 5th (Monday). The cousins in the state below us and in a state 2 away from us, are all on that same schedule.

We've been that way since I was a kid...which was a pretty long time ago!

I haven't heard of MK hitting capacity on the 20th in years... you'll be fine.

Here in Austin, their last day is this Friday the 19th and they don't go back until Tuesday, the 6th.
