Has anyone used a Graco Snugride car seat base and carrier on the plane? This is the first time we are traveling with an infant and I have never taken a car seat like this on the plane. Graco tells me it's FAA approved, just wanted to double check before we get to the airport. :thumbsup2

I think it should say FAA approved right on the side of the seat, on the plastic part. Word of advice... if you plan on putting it rear facing like you do in your car, go to the FAA's site and print out where it says what their guidelines are for infants on airplanes. When my older dd was an infant we had our infant seat rear facing, and the flight attendants gave me SUCH a hard time about having her that way, saying the person in front couldn't recline (that person said they didn't care but the FAs persisted). I had printed from the FAA site what their suggestions are for infants, and told the FA I would be more than happy to wait while we called the FAA directly to ask them. They finally gave up. That was the only time I had a problem though.

This is true and can be a problem if the person sitting in front of you wants to recline his/her seat.

It states right on the FAA website that the seat is to be used accordning to mfg instructions. So if your child meets the requirements to be rear facing than that is how the seat must be used.

I solve the "inconveniencing the passenger in the seat ahead of me" issue by booking dh that seat with my older dd next to him while I sit behind them with the baby, toddler etc.

same here.

btw, leave the base at home and use the carseat without it. the base it just a hassle imo.

We flew with infants several times and used the older version of that infant seat more than once. My advice: get on as early as you can, because as someone noted, the person in front of you can't recline completely, so you need to set yourself up before they try to. I never had a problem. I'm not sure if someone mentioned this, but you have to put the infant seat at the window because no one can get around it to get out. The flight attendants won't let you put it anywhere else.

That sounds like an excellent way to deal with this problem.
