Well here in the Chicago area we are bracing for what is being called "Snowmageddon". One to two FEET of snow from now until tomorrow...man, I wish I was on the Dream, even if the water at Castaway Cay are cold!! Just wondering what other DIS'ers are getting Snowmageddon!? Ugh! September can't get here soon enough!:yay:

We too are bracing for 20 inches of snow coming our way! I cannot wait for the 50-plus days until our Dream cruise leaves! Planning and hear about the other trips people just got back from sure helps me escape the cold and snow.

We're getting it here in Detroit. I've heard up to 24 in. in the next 2 days. I'm hoping it clears out by Thursday in time for our flight to WDW then the Dream cruise on Sunday. I guess that's why I planned the "land" portion of our Land and Sea on the front end. February weather in MI is so unpredictable!

Here in Kansas City (Missouri) we were being told yesterday to be ready for anywhere between 5-25 inches of snow. Well that seems like a reasonable range... now that it's started they've settled on at about a foot for the metro area and around 16-20 inches for the sourthern suburbs where I am.
With the blizzard winds the drifts may be taller than I am!
Just thinking that 2 weeks ago today I was on a pirate ship in Puerto Varta! Bring back my vacation!!

Lots of ICE this morning in the Dallas area. So thick it LOOKS like snow :scared1:

we too are bracing for a significant amount of snow tonight and tomorrow...and then STRONG winds. The winds concern me the most as we are rural....AND we fly out Friday, leaving on the Magic on Saturday!!! On the news last night they were comparing the storm to the one in '78. I was only 3 that year, but my husband was 9 and he said, "I remember that one! We were snowed in for 7 days!" That was so not what my churning stomach wanted to hear!

Good luck to all of you! This weather is why we moved from Illinois to Florida 12 years ago!:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Being new to this whole snow thing, is there anything I need to do to prepare? :scared1:

We've had snow on the ground since Dec. 26. There are still piles of snow taller than I am! It's very unusual to have this much snow at the Jersey Shore, but this winter we're talking about FEET of snow instead of inches. Right now it's raining here, but that will change to freezing rain, sleet and snow before tomorrow.

We're supposed to fly out Saturday for our Dream cruise on Sunday. We're waiting to see the weather forecast, we may try to leave a day early and beat the next storm.

I don't care how cold the water at Castaway Cay is. At least there won't be snow--and if there is, it will be such an event that I wouldn't want to miss it!

the water at CC was fine! was in it all day the other day! :lmao:

Milwaukee area is getting slammed too. :goodvibes

Eastern PA: 3-10 inches of snow/sleet mix topped with 1/4-1/2" of ice. :scared1: I'd rather get 2' of snow than 1/2" of ice. :sad2:

Yay! I thought I had read a review that the water was cold, but like you said, who cares?!

All of you that are leaving on Sunday, I will pray for NO DELAYS at the airports still by this weekend.

Here they are comparing it to our storm in 1967, which I was only 3 and one in 1979, that I do remember. I sure hope it's not that bad. Be careful everyone who is dealing with the snow...just keep saying, "I'll be on my cruise soon, I'll be on my cruise soon...":beach:

Judging by what seems to happen at the grocery store every time there is a major snow event, you need to prepare to make HUGE amount of French Toast by buying up all the milk, eggs and bread available. :lmao:

Seriously, though, it's pretty much common sense. For me, I make sure I have food, and also some bottled water on-hand if we're worried about really cold temps (around here, water main breaks are more common in the really cold weather, so I like to have a gallon of bottle water per-person around just in case), and that we have a movie or two to entertain the kids if we're stuck inside, and we just settle in. :thumbsup2

The only thing we are careful about is to check the furnace, dryer and hot water heater vents occasionally to make sure they don't ice up or get covered by drifting snow if we're getting lots of snow. This isn't usually a problem when you get a little snow, but when we get more than a foot or two all at once, I find it's worth checking, especially if it's windy and the snow is drifting. Oh, and if it's going to be super-cold, we always make sure the cars are full of gas.

Good luck with Snowmageddon! We're only expecting to get 8-16, so it should be no biggie here, although the timing may make it a problem for schools and such. I'd give it a 50:50 chance that we have school/work tomorrow (watch, the way it will work out is that schools will be closed but work will be open :rotfl:).

Well milliepie, if you are expecting power outages, I would draw water to have for drinking, and try to gather up all the candles, matches and flashlights in one central place. That way if it does go out everything is in one place.

We are in southeast Ohio and nothing but rain here. We are just below the line.

Just make sure you have enough food and water and maybe alternate heat source for the next couple of days.

DH just went to the store and bought milk, water, and bread enough for the next couple of days. So if the power goes out we don't have to worry about food spoiling or hauling them out in the snow... :lmao:

Other than that if you or your DH travels, make sure to bring emergency supplies ( including a cell phone, gloves, boots, blankets, flashlight and reflective triangle. ) and also keep your gas tank at least half full. Just in case.

Good luck to all of us!
We're expecting some crazy snow here in MI too... :headache:

You must have been listening to Eric and Kathy on the mix this morning!!! They were talking about Snowmageddon... I am in it too...I work for a "major" airline...not at the airport though... most people are getting hotel rooms in the area because they HAVE to be at work tomorrow..ugggg.... I was lucky enough to get a vacation day ...whew.

Same thing in NYC and I agree when I saw this on the news I couldn't believe 1/2 inch of ice ICE! on top of all the frozen snow :sad2: I just hope this is the end of this horrible winter...

Moved from Ohio to Florida 4 years ago. My favorite type of snow? The fake stuff they pump in at Celebration Town Square or at Hollywood Studio's Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights!!

Good luck to all!! Look at it this way, if the kids are out of school, send 'em down the street with shovels to make some money!!!

We have about 10" here in the OKCity area. No school,as we just don't have the equipment or budget that the northern states have.
