Snowmageddon!

Lots of ICE this morning in the Dallas area. So thick it LOOKS like snow :scared1:

And with DFW airport being a major AA hub for those coming from the west and southwest to FL, even those poor folks who aren't having weather issues at home are likely in trouble for the next few days for travel. Even though it's nothing like the rest of the country (though even a little ice is enough to cause chaos) and should end in a day or two, add to the back-up the mess of people flying into DFW for the Super Bowl and it's most unfortunate. Best wishes to everyone.

we too are bracing for a significant amount of snow tonight and tomorrow...and then STRONG winds. The winds concern me the most as we are rural....AND we fly out Friday, leaving on the Magic on Saturday!!! On the news last night they were comparing the storm to the one in '78. I was only 3 that year, but my husband was 9 and he said, "I remember that one! We were snowed in for 7 days!" That was so not what my churning stomach wanted to hear!

I'm in Central Illinois, too, and was glad we got back from the Dream on Sunday since the ice started on Monday. Pixie dust coming your way that you get out on Friday~:wizard:

I was 11 for the '78 storm. Hopefully this storm won't meet that comparison!

i am suppose to be getting on a plane tomorrow at 3:45 in Columbus Ohio to head to Orlando to be on the Disney Dream on 2/3. I have now decided that my chances of getting there are slim to none and will be surprised if i get to go. out of my control at this point. My only hope would have been to leave yesterday but i could not get a flight out since everyone else had the same idea! I think the 2/3 sailing may be a little lighter due to the weather accross the country! This stinks!

We're in Chicago as well and everyone is really worked up about the impending storm. My work is shutting down at noon today. Can't help but admit I'm a little excited about that ;)

We have a pool going here - $2 buy in, guess the amount of snow we get. Winner takes all. I think we have like 60 bucks in the pool so far.... hehe.

Make sure your antifreeze in your vehichles is rated for far colder than you could imagine needing. Mine is currently rated to -40. Keep your cars with a minimum of 1/2 tank of gas, and dump a bottle of HEET in it (I use the IsoHEET in the red bottle, its got injector cleaner) Dump a bottle of anti gelling agent into the tank of a diesel.
If you are expecting an ice storm, fill your bathtub with water as full as you can get it. This way, if the power goes out, and assuming your water is dependant on the neighborhoods ability to pump water, you can still use the toilet, you just have to use a bucket to re-fill the top tank.
As for food, make sure you have lots of canned goods that can be eaten cold if need be. Sandwiches, dry cereal, etc are great for this too.
I second the checking of vents, especially ones that are the air inlet for the furnace, as well as the exhaust outlet for the furnace too. We make a "nest" of extra blankets and pillows in the living room, just so that everyone can be snuggly if the power and heat should go out.
Keep flashlights, candles, battery operated lanterns etc on the kitchen table so that everyone knows where they are. A BBQ lighter works well for lighting the candles..... as I hate fumbling with matches in the dark.

Here is the St. Louis area we had rain turning to ice yesterday. The sleet is coming down hard now with lots of snow on the way. :scared1:
Dreaming of Castaway Cay!!!:beach:

Ice storm coming to my part of NJ, snow last night (not too much) but over half inch ice predicted. Hope everyone stays safe!

I'm in Central Ill, too! Mahomet, just west of Champaign-Urbana. They are saying it could snow 3 inches PER HOUR overnight tonight! I think the latest has us in the 12-18 inch band of snow tonight.

We are on the Dream in October, but I will be 'cruising' the boards all day, Disney Dreaming! We are also going to WDW in March for spring break, those thoughts will keep me warm!

scamper - I would get in my car & start driving to Port Canaveral, Florida! Right NOW!

Best of luck to everyone flying or driving this week, take care & stay safe!

Central Missouri--First ever blizzard warning! Have about 6 inches of snow now and and another 10-14 inches expected. Getting colder too!!!! Hope everyone stays safe and warm until this weather passes.

We have about 10" here in the OKCity area. No school,as we just don't have the equipment or budget that the northern states have.

Hey fellow Oklahoman! My parents cars are both trapped inside our garage by a giant snow drift! One of my dogs likes the snow and knows how to hop. The other not so much.

Stay Warm Everyone!!! pirate:

I am hoping the school where I teach is cancelled tomorrow. I drive about 30 minutes and am not looking forward to driving in a blizzard. March and The Dream can not come soon enough!

Thanks for the tips. We are usually prepared for earthquakes and floods, but there are things that I didn't even think of. I'm going to go to the store to get a few things. School is closed tomorrow, I got a call today from the automated system.

Good luck to those trying to get to their vacations and I hope those who are already there have a great time! Stay warm everyone! :goodvibes

and here in the NW we are dying for some snow, the snow base at the resorts is super low rain soaked mush. dirt everywhere. :(

Well here in the Chicago area we are bracing for what is being called "Snowmageddon". One to two FEET of snow from now until tomorrow...man, I wish I was on the Dream, even if the water at Castaway Cay are cold!! Just wondering what other DIS'ers are getting Snowmageddon!? Ugh! September can't get here soon enough!:yay:

It makes it bearable to think I will be on the dream next december

As a fellow Northwesterner, I can honestly say that the snow can stay away from me! :)

Good luck to all!! Look at it this way, if the kids are out of school, send 'em down the street with shovels to make some money!!!

I have 2 boxers,a 3 1/2 yr old and an 11 month old. This is the little one's first snow and she doesn't quite know what to think. The other one, forget it.

Our neighbor tried to get out and his truck is now blocking our driveway....we won't be going anywhere for a while.
