I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so maybe someone can redirect this.

I bought a small Alice In Wonderland snowglobe a week ago at WDW, the one where the characters are on a teacup and only the White Rabbit is in the small snowglobe part. It was wrapped in tissue paper, but it didn't have a box. Well I didn't want to pack it with my checked luggage for the flight leaving Orlando airport and risk it being broken. So I had packed it in my carry on tote bag. Well.....it didn't get through security.....duh....it has more than 3oz of liquid in the snowglobe. I hadn't even thought of that. The security guard says a lot of people buy snowglobes at WDW and don't even think about putting it in their checked luggage because they don't want it to break. So he gave me three options: 1) I check my tote bag and hope for the best 2) ask the Disney store in the airport if they would mail it to my home address or return the item if I had my receipt with me (which I didn't) or 3) He would throw it away and it would be destroyed.

My mom got out of line and checked my bag with the snowglobe in nothing but tissue paper and a Disney bag.....I actually saw my bag loaded into the plane and the way everything (including my bag) was thrown on to the conveyour belt I was sure I would have a bag full of glass, water, and bits of Wonderland. It surived and is now sitting happily on my bookshelf!!! :cloud9:

Though I would advise anyone who is getting a snowglobe of any size to pack it safely in their checked luggage. It didn't even occur to me so I thought I would pass it along to others so they can avoid a similar situation!

The TSA site does say that no snowglobes - regardless of size - will be allowed in carry-on luggage. I believe that most souvenir shops have small signs on the shelves where the snowglobes are located stating that they must go in your checked luggage.

I'm glad that yours survived the trip!!:thumbsup2

There are signs on the shelves with the snowglobes that warn you about flying home with them.

I found it on the bottom shelf at one the Tomorrowland stores with things like picture frames and figurines. Perhaps I missed the sign....then.

I always recommend shipping items like snow globes directly from Disney shops on property. Disney shops throughout all of WDW offer several shipping options, which typically start at $10.00 USD for ground UPS shipping. If you ship it outside of Florida, you won't be charged sales tax, which is nice.

I saw signs about this at some stores right on the registers at checkout too.
