For me, I find that my dates tend to be SO inflexible that I'm booking a trip regardless of the discount.

Like, next July. My mom, brother, and his wife are all school teachers. They don't finish up until late June, so we can't go before July 4. Because of my work deadlines, I can't go after late July and until after mid-August, which is when my family is getting ready for back to school. So, we're booking a trip... despite lack of room OR free dining discounts. I'd kill for either!

I'd LOVE to have the option of one or another! But my family is going to Disney, regardless, so if we pay rack rate... I guess we pay rack rate.

So how do you do it, with a room discount? Does that mean you don't end up with a meal plan?

(We usually go with the meal plan, simply because it means most of our food is already paid for and we're not worried about our spending on vacation)

We get a room discount almost every year~Then we just add tickets and the ddp and it's our own custom-made package!:) Hopefully you will find something that works when you get closer...I just book it and then wait for a pin or discount and call back to apply it...at least that's what I did for our Jan trips....

What the others said. Plus - have you been in July before? Oh man, hot, hot hot! I thought I would melt on the pavement. But better to melt at WDW than at home right? Hmmm, sounds like a TR title for me!!
After I looked closer at the discounts, it doesn't look like I can use any with the blackout dates. Which is fine, because I wasn't supposed to be going back yet anyway! HA!

I can think of about a million things I'd rather do than go to Disney in July. like, have more knee surgery? But, it's what my family wants and they're all school teachers!

As I pointed out in Facebook (and you even commented), if I have to put up with a heat index of 105, I'd rather be at WDW than Michigan! ;)

You can book with a room discount and then add-on tickets and dining which turns it into a package. You just get the discount on the room portion of the pkg. It's quite easy!

See, I knew you amazing women would have the ability to explain it to me!

THANKS! :D

Okay, fingers crossed for a PIN for next July. But that might not work for the other rooms. Well, a discount is a discount is a discount?

With a pin code, you can book up to (I think) 4 rooms. You just have to put them all under the name that's on the pin code.

NO. We do NOT YET KNOW. It's a "this is what you get when you book with family" story. ;)

1. I wanted to stay anywhere but a Port Orleans. I've only ever stayed at Port Orleans.
2. My mom has only stayed at Port Orleans and, uh, only wanted to stay at a Port Orleans.
3. My brother was in the middle. ;)

So then I caved, because it's my parents 40th and my brother will have a 9 month old. And he was trying to make us both happy. POFQ is much smaller with a tiny baby but it's not like it's POFQ and then to the parks. In addition, he'll have a car.

Last night, my mom said "okay, either POFQ or CBR! Whatever!" so I was very confused. Then she looked at a map. My brother and his wife intend to drive from Western MA with a baby. They will need laundry. Apparently POFQ only has one laundry facility and every other moderate has a billion. So she changed her mind, based on laundry.

But my brother is out of email contact/on vacation, so we need to wait for him to come back and tear out his hair and say "yea" or "nay."

I know some people get really attached to their resorts. But I want to try them all! Including value and all the way up to GF!

Even if all other discount tricks fail, you could join AAA and at least get their room discount! I'm a AAA member anyway, so that's an easy one for me.

Funny you should mention Port Orleans! Remember that FQ is the smallest resort; it fills up very fast. If you want it, book it NOW. Then you can cancel.

I'm booked at Port Orleans Riverside. Booked it for the boat to DTD, since I've never done DTD and was meeting a friend for dinner there. But now that my DH is coming, we'll have a car so that doesn't matter any more.

Riverside's theming never really appealed to me from the pictures - I'm so torn now! I need advice!

My choices are now between CSR at about $100 more - I loved it last time, even in an unrenovated room. Now that all the rooms are renovated, I just don't know!

Anyone who can compare CSR and POR? Primarily those who like CSR???

Thanks!

Huh interesting. I guess I never thought of using my AAA discount and then putting things together that way.

And I don't want POFQ so I'm not going to hustle. ;) I've now stayed at POR three times. Twice in Alligator Bayou and once in Magnolia Bend. I don't love or hate one more than the other and even pending major knee surgery last year, I wasn't concerned about where I stayed. I do love the grounds of POR. It really does feel peaceful but I have no idea if it'll be similar elsewhere.

Here's one of my pictures that captures the serenity to me:

I guess we'll see. We'll get there and then we'll stay... somewhere. ;)

The seller just accepted our offer on a 50 pt Vero Beach DVC Contract!!!! We're going to own DVC!!! OMG!

Well you know I don't really care for CSR, but I will try to help you anyway!! :rotfl:

POR was the last moderate we tried, because like you the resort theme just held no appeal to us. But I have to say that we were very pleasantly surprised and were very glad we tried it. It is very lush and beautiful and fun. We still didn't love the room theme, but it was fine. The rest of the resort made up for it. Very relaxing, the pool is great, the food court is great, the CM's are great, etc. Here is my review with lots of pics if you never saw it -- http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2333071

Plus I always vote for trying something new! :thumbsup2

Thanks, guys! I figured out that I'm getting 40% off at POR, and would only get 35% at any other moderate. And DH just said that he doesn't care about the accommodations, so POR it is! (And yes, Shelley, I know you don't like CSR! :rotfl:)

Sheree, congrats from me, too! DVC!

Thank you all! It's so weird, we had looked into DVC a couple of times in the past, went to a DVC presentation on the Disney cruise in Feb 09, and were "this close". Then we decided we could get all kinds of deals and stay wherever we wanted...blah blah blah...too much money...
Then last week, DH discovered there was a resale market and you could buy smaller amounts of points. He doesn't waste time making decisions (that's where he and I differ dramatically) and within two days of researching, he was ready to make an offer. OY!
SO here we are. We should close by mid-October and will probably bank the points that are left for this year (good until March 1) since we don't plan to go anywhere before March. If we do anything, it would be for spring break in March and go to Vero, not WDW. But since we're planning Europe, we might just sit on the points for a while. That's going to be so hard!!!!
And of course, I'll keep you all posted. :)

Sarah - POR again, eh? I liked both POR and CBR, never stayed at POFQ or CSR. But I agree - it's nice to try someplace else. That's the thing about Disney - everywhere has something special to offer. That's why I can't pick a favorite or say I want to keep going back to a certain resort. I am determined to try them all!!! Maybe now I can. Just remember, no matter the resort, it's DISNEY!!! Good luck! I totally get how hard it can be to travel with family. Boy, do I get it!!

Still working on my TR title - I am going to do it this weekend for sure - even if the title is "July 2010 Beach Club TR".
