...my husband leaves for his conference tomorrow. He has neither thought about packing nor found a suitcase yet. It's nearly 8pm ET. I'm not 100% sure what he's waiting for! Guys!!

(I think it's finally hit home that he's leaving without me for 10 of the next 14 days. Probably brought on by the tears I shed the other night when it really hit ME that he was going on our annual Atlanta trip and I... was going to work. Yeah.)

On the upside, 18 days until Disney!!

Did I tell you ladies about my adventures in ordering that thing for under my giant knee brace? Well, when the package arrived, it contained this:

Eight of them. (I ordered these!) I emailed the company and asked them if it was some kind of strange joke. They got me the right item a few days later and picked up the coffee mugs!

But ... coffee mugs? Instead of sleeves? They must have some sort of warehouse that they share because the coffee mugs were from another company entirely!!

I've been chatting with some people who have had a similar surgery to me. Go ahead and laugh, but I just found out that I'll have a full long leg brace as I recover. I thought I'd have... I don't know, something smaller? My husband thought I'd have a lower leg cast (since i'll have a broken bone) and I guess I thought I'd have a lower leg brace of some sort. Now I have to figure out what I can wear with that sucker!! Skirts for work will be just fine, but when I'm home recovering... I don't think I have anything that would go over that. I guess I should go check out some cheap athletic stuff at Target?

:lmao::lmao:maybe they though you wanted to wrap your leg in coffee mugs?:confused3

Yeah, maybe you can check Target or Wal Mart for some athletic stuff that is a larger size that will fit over it. Hopefully the recovery will go smoothly and quickly.

Good morning Snowbirds! :cool1::cool1::banana::banana:

Just found out this week that DS10 needs braces. We kind of knew this was coming, but I guess we just didn't expect it so soon. :confused3 He went for a full ortho exam/evaluation this morning. He did very well considering he has been freaking out ever since Tuesday when he found out he needed braces. He doesn't deal well with any discomfort. :sad2: Plus he heard them discussing the price with me and he said - that costs as much as a trip to Disney!! :scared1:

Oh well, I'm sure lots of people have been through this and we will get through it too. It just seems like it is going to be a long drawn out process.

Shelly, my DS11 is just about to start with braces too. We've been for the initial consultation, and go back in a couple weeks for the molds of his mouth and all that. The good news is he's pretty enthused about getting braces--his lower jaw is set back a bit, and he's kind of self-conscious about it. I don't know when he became concerned about his appearance! :teeth:

I wonder what the deal is with men and packing...my hubby is an over packer to the extreme!!! He goes over the weight limit EVERY time!! I have probably told ya'll this, but a few years ago,(when it was a total surprise trip, kids didn't know till on route to airport) I was gonna pack for dh. I had started sneaking clothes into suitcases and just needed to work on ours. Well, I told him to just stack his clothes on the floor by our bed and he could watch a movie with them while I packed it. WELL you would not have believe the stackS(plural) of clothes. We were only going for like 5 or 6 days that time.... I counted 14 t-shirts because I just had to know for sure how many were down there. 14!!!!! Can you believe that!!!! so, I made him like 6 or 7 sets of clothes, threw in 2 t-shirts extra and night clothes.....Would you believe how freaked out he was when we got to the resort!!! Where are all my clothes?:scared1: I tell you...from now on, he packs his own junk. When we go in Dec/Jan, you just would be amazed how many items he thinks he needs. Even tho we could buy anything and I always do wash. I don't get it.

Shawna, my DH is the same way! I don't know when he thinks he is going to wear all the stuff he always packs. I've gotten in trouble for leaving some of his stuff at home, so now I just let him do it himself. ;)

Sarah- that's too funny you got mugs instead! :lmao: how strange! Old Navy has their sweats on sale for $10 right now- I may have done some shopping for myself this weekend and happened to notice :rolleyes1. They might work for you :confused3

Thanks!! Great idea! I like what I saw on their website, so maybe I'll pop over this week. Of course, school (grade through college!) starts next week, so I'm wondering about the wisdom of trying to go to an Old Navy this week. :confused3

And Kim, I hope you survive today!!

Sarah- how weird was that!!! ha!!! I wonder what the deal is with men and packing...my hubby is an over packer to the extreme!!! He goes over the weight limit EVERY time!! My husband does the same but he does wear it all. Like, at one time. Rather than pack a sweater for a trip, he'll pack a couple t-shirts and wear them all. And then both are "dirty" after he wears them - even the one on the outside that might have also been under a sweater. :headache: Add in all his running clothing and his multiple pairs of sneakers (and he's a boy, so, BIG FOOT). I just give him heck that he packs more than me. But for our cruise next year, RCI doesn't have washers and dryers for the masses, so I'm starting to horde little bottles of detergent and he will be washing his clothes - ESPECIALLY HIS RUNNING GEAR. (it does get stinky quick, but, darnit, he can wash it instead of packing 4000 shirts!)

Hee. I shouldn't complain so much. He's a really great guy  The things I complain about are not the reasons I married him (like laundry!) so we make do.

:lmao::lmao:maybe they though you wanted to wrap your leg in coffee mugs?:confused3

I can't even imagine what they thought! When I found it on the website, too, it was listed as "out of stock" and "backordered." Well, sure. I had EIGHT of them!

Hubby is on a train between here and Chicago and returns Friday night. I'm on my own! Sadly, I have to work so it's not like I get a lot of fun out of the deal. I do need to get some stuff for life after surgery, but that's not a lot of fun, you know? I think I should go browsing in stores for fun things! Like a dress for an upcoming wedding!

My d is more like sarbah's. It takes him 15 minutes or so to pack, and usually he can fit it all (except for the toiletries, which I pack) into a duffel bag! If we're going by plane and he has to take a suitcase, not just a carry-on, I end up using half his space! I tried packing for him once, and he yelled at me "What do I need all of this junk for???" Now he's on his own.

Of course, just let him ask "Where is my . . . ?" :headache:

I wish I knew how to edit my packing, but at least I've never been over the limit!

Good morning everyone! Well, we just got back home from meeting Madison's 2nd grade teacher. She seems very nice and that's always good. We got to drop off our school supplies and take a look around the classroom. It's bigger than her 1st grade room and it's very bright. The room isn't quite set up completely, but that was fine with Madison. She's really looking forward to school starting in 8 days (she has a countdown). I do always look forward to the 1st day of school, but I also get sad too. I think I was more upset last year than I was when she started kindergarden!

Well I made it this morning- didn't become a blubbering fool until he was on the bus and he couldn't see me :sad2: I posted some pics in my PTR.

I'm glad Madison is so excited and her teacher seems to be a good fit. I hear ya on the sad part- I'm feeling it today! :sad2:

You're lucky, my DS isn't so excited about the whole thing. He could care less about his appearance and tells me not to waste the money!

We got his molds done last week and I go back in for the next consultation the beginning of October.

Hello Snowbirds!

Sounds like some more little Snowbirds went back to school this week. We still have another week. Next Tuesday. We will meet their teachers and see their classrooms this week though.

We just got back yesterday from Hershey! About the middle of the week last week we decided that we would make a spur of the moment little trip out on the weekend. It's about 4 hours, not bad. We hadn't been there in awhile. It was fun! We didn't have time for the park, but spent a day at Chocolate World and then the evening at the hotel pool. It was nice to get away at least for a little bit after all the work we've done on the new house all summer!

Good Morning Snowbirds!!!

Awww I have heard nothing but amazing things about the Hershey park and I would love to visit it!! A friend of mine went with her girls this summer and posted some pictures on my PTR...what fun I was envious!!!

Glad you guys were able to get away and have a mini family vacation Shelly!!!

KIM...glad you made this morning!! Can't wait to hop over there and see your pictures!!

Hey Snowbirds!
Wow, we had an exhausting weekend! Saturday I went to my moms and saw my great aunt who I haven't seen in many years, and met some cousins I'd never met. It was such a blast! They live in Phoenix and Oregon, so it was great meeting them, seeing pictures of their families. I was kind of dreading it because my granmother is a bit of a Debbie Downer, but she just sat quietly while we all talked and caught up!

Then Sunday, my beautiful first born son turned 7!!! We had a party for him at a local rec center that has a small indoor water park. 23 screaming 6 and 7 yr old boys-we got them all jacked up on sugary cupcakes and Capri suns then let them loose in the pool for about 1 1/2 hrs! They had such a blast and it was the easiest (and probably cheapest) party I've ever thrown!! Since I didn't feed them real food (yes, I'm cheap), I think it was even cheaper than having the "family party" where we get the "big sandwhich" and chips, etc... We were absolutely exhausted yesterday! Drew got his DS that he's been talking about forever, and my living room looks like Lego land exploded!!! Glad it's over!

All this talk about house plans and new homes just gives me the new house bug so much!! I keep telling myself to wait 2 years until Keaton starts Kindergarten-the budget will be alot more open at that point!! It SO exciting though! I'll just have to live vicariously thru you all-I NEED PICTURE PEOPLE!! :rotfl:

Not just little Snowbirds! We packed up my daughter and she and my husband drove off, back to college for junior year :scared1:! And when I can't believe that it's really junior year -- well, all I have to do is look at my bank account! :rotfl2:I couldn't go this time, and DH went because it takes TWO CARLOADS of stuff to get her settled! Don't you just love girls?? :cutie: I miss her already! But she's joining me in Disney in 10 days :woohoo:(she comes in the day after I do), so it's all good.

Hershey sounds like so much fun!! My in laws went there last here, and loved it. However, since my DH is a huge Civil War nut, if we ever make it to PA, I don't think we would ever make it to Hersey.

I don't know if it's me being in school, or if the heaven's opened up and performed a miracle on my DH. I was talking Disney math to him, and he not only understood it, but thinks it's a great idea. I said that it made more sense to buy four AP's and then we could go to WDW again before November 2011 and not have to pay for park tickets. Then we could hopefully get good AP rates for both stays on the resort. He said that it made sense and sounded like a good idea.

OMG, so I just made my first post to my online class. I read it outloud to my DH to make sure I didn't sound like a complete idiot. After I was done reading it, I looked up to find him giggling. After he dodge the empty 20 ounce Dr. Pepper bottle I threw at his head, he said "you just do it without realizing it don't you." Before I got a chance to throw an almost full 20 ounce Dr. Pepper bottle at his head he said, "you used DIS speak in your post. If you don't change it to normal human English, they won't have a clue won't your saying and will think you're crazy." I went back and looked at what I had written and sure enough I said things like "DH" and "DS".

:lmao::lmao:

On a more serious note, though, that kind of thing does rub off on kids, too. So many teachers now complain that they get papers written in "text speak" - even if they don't abbreviate the words, they don't punctuate or capitalize. It's now a real problem.

Hello birdies!

thank you for all the AP feedback. I think I understand:confused3but then again I confuse easily :rotfl:. I have booked a package on my own through Disney. I was hoping for a code or deal for that time, but if we don't get it - no big deal - we are still going- my heart and mind is set on this. More on this later. However when we discussed 2 trips in 2010, AP made sense, then I realized I might be able to get a AP discount. If I "upgrade" to AP while I am in Disney, my package will be paid for so no discount could be applied- correct? But the AP rate may apply for the Oct 2010 trip. Yikes I think I m more confused.

What I have booked - POP, Park Hoppers, Deluxe Dining for me and DD. IF I want AP how do I go about this? Get the AP prior to 45 days out and then remove the parks passes from my booking?

Now the reason the trip is a go ahead no matter what. As you may remember during a meltdown on our Jan 2009 trip DD said to me as we marched through the entry of Epcot " When can we come to disney just you and me? I wish it was just you and me". DD and I were a team for so long, I was a single mom and it was her and I, now it is DD, DH/ DBF/DF(and many other derivitives I am sure), and I. Then with her recent health issues it brings it near and dear to me our bond. I have always said never get between a momma bear and her cub. Today dd had her cardiac ultrasound, being back in the hospital with her , listening to her heart, and even seeing her heart just returned it all to me... as I sat listening to the beats she was able to watch Finding Nemo. I am so proud of her for being so brave through all these tests! After seeing Marlin and Dory and Nemo and the gang we instincively started singing "Together, we swim together..." from the Finding Nemo musical at AK.

So we are definitely going and I am pleased with all my choices, in fact I am quite relaxed about this trip. I can only imagine the memories and traditions she and I will create! Ok time to go find the tissue.
