Of course, I did. She was so proud of herself.:lmao: I'll try to post it soon.

I have THE BEST picture of my now 8 yr old in one of her first "dress myself" outfits! She was wearing pink flowered tights (with feet) a blue and yellow bathing suit (over the tights, of course) a pink zippy sweater and a yellow sunhat! :lmao: That picture is coming out at her wedding, for sure! :rotfl2:

I know, about the relaxing. That's one reason that I had a hard time deciding - I could just hang around CSR and be happy. But, there is another reason, too - my D is going to Rome for her study abroad next spring. So I'm saving my time and money to visit her and tour a bit of Europe - I've never been. And maybe I'll be able to take 2 weeks!:wizard:

And thanks for all the welcome back wishes!

Have fun visiting her! When I was in Prague my Mom constantly was talking about coming to visit me, but she never came. She kept coming up with excuses not to come. It's great that you're saving up now, because that was of course one of my Mom's favorite excuses. She has always complained about never having been to Europe, and she had a golden opportunity to go visit a daughter there, and didn't take it.
I wish I would have toured around more while I was there, but oh well, you live and learn. It's possible that Logan could get stationed there, (ok...he's likely to get stationed somewhere overseas at some point) so hopefully I'll get another opportunity.

Oh one suggestion I have is that if she plans on traveling by train a lot to get a Eurail ticket before she goes, or for when you're going to be there. You have to have them sent to the United States. Even though train tickets aren't expensive or anything, if she already has the ticket available, then she'll be more likely to use it.

Hey Snowbird Pals and Gals! :goodvibes

Have a few minutes of sanity time right now! Thought I would drop in and see how y'all were doin'!

That is too cute! :cutie: My girls both insisted on dressing themselves at about 20 months. Since then the only rules I put on them are that the clothing has to be modest (no bare midriffs or spaghetti strps) and it has to be seasonally appropriate (no tank tops in December!). There have been a few outfits that I myself would not choose to wear, but for the most part, they are both good about choosing nice outfits! :cool2:

WENDY!!! :scared1: You know we're not supposed to let that guy out! ;) What would Peaches say? Somebody call the police! :car: There they are! Get Disco Dale put back in his cage! :lmao:

I am so excited (and slightly jealous) for all of you going on Free Dining trips! ;) I really hope Disney releases something soon for us 2010ers! Anybody heard any good rumours lately? :confused3 I keep hearing that something BIG is going to come down on the 27th of THIS MONTH!!! :woohoo:

Sorry... I know it was a lapse in judgement... but he looked so cute dancing!!!:rotfl: I am not going on free dining... I am staying for free though... DSis is a DVC owner and they invited me to stay with them... so I only have to pay for my meals, tickets and plane ticket.. which meals I usually order a kids meal or share with my sister (since my gastric bypass surgery) and I am buying an annual pass because we are going in February.. and the plane ticket was pretty cheap....:woohoo:

We are staying at OKW this time... I am excited as I have never stayed there.

If they release something REALLY good for 2010, I just might be able to convince my DH to let us go. I mean, it would have to be super duper amazingly awesome, but I can dream right? Madison and I went and played Bingo yesterday and the big jackpot was over $3,000! No one won it (someone won the $300 consolation prize), so we might have to go back next week!!! :rotfl: There are a few Disney sweepstakes I enter everyday too. I need to go back!!!!!

Have a Mickey Ice Cream for me too. Oh no wait- get me a Dole Whip :cloud9:

Done... BOTH!

I'm baaaaaaaaack! Hope everyone missed me! Actually, I got back on Tuesday, but managed to get sick while down in Disney and just started to feel better. Anyway, I have a couple of posts to respond to, and then I'll tell you all about the rest of my trip!
I wouldn't worry too much about Hoop De Doo. I decided to go on Sunday the 13th, at about 4 PM. I got the 9:30 show that night. Category 2, but still. I was the final booking that night, and didn't even have to sit under the balcony. Category 3 wasn't booked at all.

It was a lot of fun.

(snip)

The parks were empty! I have been many times, and I have never seen them so devoid of people.

Ha! i got sick before I left for Disney! I think I'm allergic to the pillows or whatever there, too, because I didn't sleep through the night ONCE... in fact, one night, my friend woke me up because I was coughing in my sleep. Oops! :confused3

Anyway, like snykymom said "HOLY COW DEAD." January had nothing on this...

...January was also 40-50 degrees cooler, too. I'd like an average. It was HOT. yesterday was miserably scorching HOT. But I was otherwise prepared.

And it was SO quiet. On Friday, my local friend and I were at Epcot for the opening. We walked on to Test Track, then walked on to Mission: Space, then (almost) walked on the Soarin'. Later, when the friend who was there for the weekend arrived, we rode them all. Again. This time, we did single rider for Test Track (walk on), Mission: Space (walk on), and fastpass for Soarin' (was at 30 minutes when we did that). We rode Spaceship Earth twice (once w/o non-local friend, once with). We walked on to the Norway ride and the Mexico ride. We ate at Tangerine Cafe for lunch (quiet). We ate at Le Chefs de France for dinner on Friday.

Saturday, we did Animal Kingdom (rides only - and just the biggies of Expedition Everest, Safari, Primeval Whirl, and Kali River Rapids) and left by noon, after getting there shortly after 9. We went back to our hotel room to dry off (we were prepared to do so after Kali River Rapids), then caught a bus to HS. We waited maaaaybe 30ish minutes when it said 60 for TSMM (fastpasses were all gone) and maybe 20? 10? for Rock'n'Roller coaster, and walked on to the Great Movie Ride. Dinner was at Kouzzina.

Sunday, we got to the Magic Kingdom in time to see it open but kept on going to Polynesian for TONGA TOAST at the counter service restaurant. The monorail ahead of us broke down on our way back, so we were a bit delayed. We did get to MK eventually... and walked on to Buzz Lightyear twice, then rode TTA (no wait), then Carosel of Progress (never again... please? twice in one year! no wait, of course). We rode the Tea Cups, it's a small world, Snow White, Haunted Mansion (twice), Big Thunder Mountain, Pirates, Hall of Presidents... with a LOT of breaks because of the heat and dinner was at California Grill (early, but we weren't done until quarter of 8 and the waiter let us stay at our window seat for the fireworks... more detail later).

It was a FABULOUS trips. Crowds were low. Temps were high (ick!). We lucked out and had AWESOME meals all around with excellent wait staff. People were really good natured, despite the heat.

The only downside was me. ;) The thing I got to wear under my brace plus the heat and the friction of the brace... actually left me with first degree burns all over my leg. I couldn't wear the brace all weekend. I'd brought some prescription strength ibuprofen and started taking that and it helped a lot, since the burns were incredibly painful to the touch. And my sneakers are a newer model with a narrower toe box, so I ended up with a lot of blisters (curses!), so I wore my Crocs instead.

but that's pretty minor. My local friend brought us a case of water and we carried a lot around with us. A couple of days, we rented lockers and stored extra shoes/water in there.

It was a great trip. Free dining was excellent...

...but it was too HOT!

More later, if anyone wants info about our dinners (which, as I said, were REALLY great!).

Now to do the laundry my husband ignored, pick up the mail he scattered around the house, and take care of the cat boxes... sheesh! What do I pay him for?! ;)

Wow Sarah... those crowds do sound lovely.
I'm sorry about your ailments though.
How was Kouzzina?
I'm really considering making it one of our stops in December, but the distance frustrates me. You can only get there from the Studios and Epcot by the boat or walking, am I right? That boat just goes soo slow...and I don't like relying on walking in case we really need the break.

Sarah!!! Glad to hear from you!! I am soooo sorry about your leg!! WOW! Glad you had fun despite that and the heat...which is why I will not go before Oct, at least!!!! I just can't do the heat....mid May was getting pretty toasty too!!!!! I am curious about Cali Grill....fill me in! I am thinking of changing our ressie on MVMCP nite from Tonys to here....tell me what ya'll ate. Just not sure about the kids food.... I know you probably didn't see any, but what's the atmosphere?

I reaaaaalllllly am curious about the 27th now! I personally wouldn't think it's just for ADRs, since so many people are doing it online. I am telling you what!....if it's outrageously spectacular... I 'll be back on the January Wagon!!! We saved close to $1200 with the Free Dining....if it beats it I would be crazy not too!!!!!
We are in for some goood weather the next few days....cold front tomorrow night with rain and thunderstorms:cloud9: I looooove stormy weather...it is truly my favorite! Plus all my new plants need some water....free water that is!!! I think we may be about to net the pool and stop swimming! This last weekend the kids were freezing...they had to keep jumping out and running around to get hot enough to get back in...it's like ice the deeper you get and just takes your breath!!! You know it's cold when a kid won't swim.

Sarah... with the exception of your leg sounds like a wonderful trip..... I am so happy for you!!!

California Grill is one of my fav places to eat.... we have always had wonderful food and service... one time we were there sitting by the window and we watch a storm come across Bay lake over the GF to us... it was really cool....

I amhoping the rides are all walk ons when I am there next month... only 20 days!!!!

Yeah, Kouzzina was kind of a pain to get back from. We stayed at POR, which meant DownTown Disney was kind of a good middle location for us... we ended up going from our resort. We disagreed on how to get there best (i thought the HS bus would be better, but we took Epcot and walked through the park) and then caught the BoardWalk bus back to DTD and then the boat to our resort. It was a challenge.

The menu was, I think, nicer than Spoodles (where we ate in January). There were fewer heavy pastas (like ye olde shrimp & cream sauce) and some interesting options. I ended up with the Wood-grilled flank steak, which was excellent. It was served with an "herb saltsa" which was basically a pesto. For dessert, I had the Loukoumades, which is a greek donut drizzled with honey. It wasn't terribly sweet, which was okay. There was a cream AND a raspberry sauce for dipping. My friend had the slow-cooked lamb shank and I heard no complaints from her. :) She had the baklava for dinner, which was more burrito style than the more typically seen layered style.

I should note that on our last trip (girl trip in 2007), with the exception of Chefs de France, we couldn't get a single waiter to even say "boo" to us or follow up. This was not the case anywhere we ate. In fact, with Kouzzina's open kitchen, we could see our waitress constantly checking for our meals and she was always there to make sure our drinks were refilled. It was very nice.

The table next to us had one small child and the food seemed more interesting for kids. Like, she (and I heard another table) got goldfish for an appetizer! And the dessert another table got was "sushi" or rice krispie treats in small pieces with Swedish Fish on them. It generally seemed more interesting than some of the other places but not totally outrageous.

I loved our meal. it was slow and we had a lot of food. We started off in the lounge, since the restaurant wasn't open when we arrived (our only time option was 5:40). Karl, our sommelier, was really excellent. I was laughing at the reserve wine list (most bottles were well over $100) and he heard me and asked what I liked. I told him I didn't really drink wine but I had an extreme sweet tooth. He spent a few moments explaining things to me and a suggestion of what to look for, and then came back and poured me a taste of a white wine that was right up my alley.

We were then seated with a view of the Magic Kingdom, which was fabulous. (Oh, and because we were celebrating my friend's birthday - we were quick to note that it was NOT her birthday, but merely a celebration in Disney of it! - we got Mickey head confetti scattered across our table. it was cute!) Our waiter was very helpful in answering questions.

We ordered a flatbread appetizer - it was a grilled steak with a pepper sauce and fresh basil with melted cheese. My dinner was excellent - scallops with a seasoning, with gnocchi and caramalized pears. My friend had ostrich. It came out lukewarm and she sent it back (the waiter did suggest that because it was medium rare it wouldn't be as warm - she then noted that her mashed potatoes were tepid, too). it was quickly replaced with a fresh & hot plate and she said it was VERY good.

For dessert, we ordered more wine - a dessert wine. Our waiter brought us two to taste and then left behind the "taste" of the one we didn't select (it was coincidental that we ended up with the same icewine). Also, we (were on the Disney Dining Plan) were allowed to order the cheese board for dessert, so I ordered that and my friend ordered a Valrhona Chocolate cake... this time, it came with salted caramel ice cream, which was TO DIE FOR. The cake itself was not overly sweet and the molten chocolate was closer to a bittersweet baking chocolate, but it really was fantastic.

The menu changes frequently. Even looking at Disney's site, it's outdated and what we had wasn't on there at all. It's a nice relaxed meal and we had great waitstaff and good food.

Since we were there for the fireworks, we invited the girls at the table behind our's to sit with us for a better view. There was an incident during the fireworks but by the end of the show the girls and I were friends... in a way that girls form friendships when they're 6 & 8! (Their parents were very VERY effusive in their thanks - perhaps because of the incident, how I resolved it, and the fact that we invited them to have a better view. Or maybe just for the view, but that seems silly)

The crowd the WHOLE weekend was SO mellow. So so mellow. It was great and our dinner there was a nice way to end the weekend.

I should also note that I found a conversion and was able to plug in yesterday's high (93) and the humidity at the same time (~50%) and got a heat index of 100.8. Yeah, that was hot!!

But we booked then because of free dining AND because of my upcoming knee surgery. We picked up "I'm Celebrating!" pins yesterday for her birthday and for my post-surgical life. it was FUN!

(Also, if you like Middle Eastern food, YUM to Tangerine Cafe and a good deal to boot on the dining plan! My meal alone was $20 and it was SO tasty)

Thanks Sarah!! I think we will be eating there for sure at some point! I think maybe a late lunch on Thursday....we are having a slow day before the Christmas party.....then we can do a CS that night after we get there. Sounds really good!!! Glad they are kid friendly!! But, it seems like they should be...so many families love the CR!!!

Sarah--thanks for the details on your meals! Wow, my mouth is watering! :thumbsup2 Sounds like you had a fun trip.

OK, Snowbird friends, I could use your help...planning our trip to Disneyland Paris! :yay: DLP has TWO specials going from the beginning of January to the beginning of April, and you can use them both together. Kids under 12 free, and free dining! The age at which kids become "adults" is 12 at DLP, so we definintely want to go before DS11 turns 12 at the beginning of June. So we might as well go before April, when all the kids will be totally free, right? The free dining is brand new at DLP. Breakfast is always included with your hotel (how fancy the breakfast is depends on the price level of your hotel--less expensive hotels just provide rolls and drinks). But with the new deal you also get vouchers for a counter service meal and a table service meal for each night (again, the restaurants you can use them at without paying extra vary depending on your hotel level). Good deal, huh? :woohoo:

So, the question becomes when we should go. I'm thinking to go for three days, two nights. It's less than three hours from here, so we'd just get up early, drive, and hit the park the first day, and then stay until evening the third day and drive home late. If we go over a long weekend the boys won't even miss any school. They have a day off in the middle of January, a week off in the middle of February, and a day off at the end of March. During the February week we'll probably take a trip somewhere farther away, so that's probably out. January sounds good because it is SOONER :cool1: and cheaper...but on the other hand, it's likely to be really cold! :cold: We were chilly at WDW last January, but according to DLP trip reports I've read, it might be bone-chilling cold there. I'm thinking of staying at the Davy Crockett Ranch, which has a really neat indoor pool...but apparently it's not heated  So maybe end of March would be better? :upsidedow

Any thoughts would be appreciated...I really just wanted to talk about it with other people who would understand my excitement about planning a little trip! :goodvibes

DLP... how exciting.... we went when it first opened.. I was actually pregnant for DS and he is now 16... I am sure they have expanded it so much now....

Anytime at Disney is a great time... but if you thinking you might want to use the pool I would probably go with the warmer time...March..... heck... if you can buy tickets that don't expire maybe you can go twice!! if the kids are free and dining is free... all it would be would be hotel expense...

just something to think about.

We've been once also, in 2001 when the boys were really little. It was their first Disney park! ::MickeyMo::MickeyMo They've added the Studios park since we were last there.

I'd love to go twice! :thumbsup2 I've thought about getting annual passes, since it's not that far from here. But from what I've learned, all their promotions are for packages with park tickets included (one more park day than number of nights, and dated to coincide with the hotel stay). They have AP room discounts, but apparently they aren't that good. Several DISers with DLP APs buy packages with tickets they don't need, because it's cheaper than just the hotel with AP discount! :confused3 I'm thinking that we should go during this promotion, then maybe the next time we're ready to go back, we can get APs at that time and stay offsite. :upsidedow

Pluto fan...Not sure since I know NOTHING about your weather there!! Just wanted to say WOOOO HOOOOO!!!!:cool1: How wonderful for you! and what great deals!!! If it's gonna be cold, I would lean toward March...even first of April! Unless that's a rainy season. You are gonna have a blast no matter where you go... and I am excited for you!!!!:goodvibes

Happy Autumn Everyone!!!:goodvibes
We are starting our first day of Fall down here with lots of cloud coverage and an approaching cool front! Big thunderstorms coming this afternoon/evening!! I am anxiously waiting....all these plants need some water and we are ready for our first real cooldown. It's just doing baby sprinkles outside right now...but it'll pick up! I have to take our dog to the vet for her checkup and I hope it holds off or stops for a bit then! Gonna go and hear she should lose 5 #s.. (like her mamma!!) ya'll have a wonderful day and go get your Mums and Pumpkins to put out!!!

Even before the wedding -- it makes excellent blackmail material ("You behave or I'll show this picture to your prom date!")!! :rotfl:

Have fun visiting her! When I was in Prague my Mom constantly was talking about coming to visit me, but she never came. She kept coming up with excuses not to come. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll check it out. I know she'll be visiting friends in Nantes and heading to England as well (maybe on the Chunnel train?), so it's a great idea to prepay it. Study abroad wasn't as popular when I was in school as it is now, so I never went.

How did you like Prague? A friend's daughter just got back from her semester there and loved it!

We watched a thunderhead form and rain fall in a distance, but no rain by us!! It was humid enough, though... and as soon as I got off the plane, it started raining in Detroit.

CG was a good meal. Probably not the best deal on the dining plan, but hey, we didn't pay for it so we thought we'd enjoy a few nice meals.

And we had a few nice meals!

We let our builder go today. I feel really horrible about it. I hate to hurt anyone's feelings.

Back to the drawing board....

So sorry this is happening to you! Remember, though - this is business. Hurt feelings are not involved. And better now than later, after the house is a month overdue and a third over budget and you can't get him to do anything!
