~Snowbird Chat 2~

Meghan- Congrats on your little guy! Madison will love him- don't worry! I always said the same thing about boys clothes. When Andrew was little everything had either transportation stuff or dinosaurs on it. :confused3 My little boy advice is the same as everyone else's- learn to change diapers fast and keep it covered up unless you feel like taking 5 showers a day to wash the pee out of your hair. Hope the pink eye is getting better. :sad2:

Thanks Kim!!! Madison is warming up to the idea of having a little brother. It's just going to take her some time. Little boys clothes have gotten better, but there still aren't a lot of options out there. Our boys dept at ON is SO small! Newborn stuff is 50/50 for boys and girls, but then our baby dept is overrun with girls stuff. For older boys (size 5-14) is just plain puny. Our girls dept is double the size. A lot of moms are very disappointed by this and I don't blame them.

Hahaha.. I know all about the diapering stuff. I had a few close calls as a babysitter back in the day! The pink eye is better, but I still have to use this yucky ointment in my eyes. They thought it would be safter for me than the usual eye drops.

I just wanted to jump on quickly before we run out the door to update you all on Jay's dad!!!!! He came home from the hospital yesterday!!!! He's obviously not going to beat pancreatic cancer but we're so happy that he's comfortable and back home. He's been set up with a nurse and occupational therapist to come to his home and he's so happy to be home rather than in the hospital. He's in such good spirits and was thrilled to see the kids yesterday. It's the most we can ask for at this point.

I'm glad to hear about Jay's dad! I hope he has comfort for his remaining time, with his loved ones!

Oh, Sarah, I'm so sorry for your loss. It must be devastating.

Did you have a connection with his wife? Would it be possible to include her in some of your travel plans, so that she can continue to travel without having to travel alone? (I don't mean you pay for it, just that you travel together on occasion.) I know it won't be the same, but you can never have enough people who love you!

I did add her on Facebook when I found out, which gives me a better way to keep in touch (I was getting emails forwarded from another cruise buddy). We'll have to see what the future brings us, once she's had the opportunity to grieve! It was fairly quick, though.

Thank you for all your support, though! :goodvibes :goodvibes

In BETTER news, I saw my surgeon today! He declared me good to go - took off the brace and walked right out of the clinic! I've got another six to eight weeks until I'm FULLY healed but OH BOY. Hopefully, I'm forever done with him in a clinical setting! I feel like a million bucks and that the world is MINE. For the first time EVER. the only thing holding me back (in 6-8 weeks ;)) is my own inertia! ;)

YAY Sarah!!!! You can walk free again!!! :yay:

I have a question. Have any of you gone to WDW during Flower and Garden Festival in March?? I'm trying to figure out where they have all the stuff to see. Is it both FW and WS? I may have to spend more time there!! (Which I would not mind at all!).

I think I better start a PTR. I have so many plans, updates, changes...Lots to talk about with you all!! I'll post a link here soon.

Congrats Sarah!! I know you are super excited!!! The next few weeks will fly by for you and then you'll be 100%!!!

Sheree, we did go one year during the Flower Festival. It was in May,so it was winding down-but boy was it pretty!!!! I know we saw stuff at the WS,just can't remember how much as far as activities and so on. I think ya'll would love it!

Sarah- So happy you are feeling great!

Okay Snowbirds I need some input. Now that DH has given the all clear for a trip this fall, I am starting to plan. We settled on the first week of November but I won't have DS's school calendar until April so I'm not 100% sure if that week will work or not so I'm looking at all our options. I'd love to see the Christmas decorations so I'm leaning towards November but I'll be really disappointed if not much is up yet or if MVMCP hasn't started while we're there. Plus I heard that the first week of Nov is Jersey Week and was a blackout date for free dining :confused3

I know for sure that schools will be closed on October 21st for the MD State Teacher Convention.

We could go
Oct. 15-22
or
Oct. 22-29
or
Nov. 5-12 (as long as his school is closed for 2 days for conferences like it usually is)

Any input from those of you that have gone during these times would be much appreciated. Which weeks will have the lowest crowds? Weather?

I think I have a headache and the planning has barely started!!!

 YAY!!! Another Snowbird DIS meet!!! :cheer2: After just missing each other by about 15 mins in Jan 2009 - I am so glad that we will finally be able to meet each other!!! :cool1:

I really wanted to stay until the 4th but the girls are adament about not missing any school! We have to pad our trip with a travel day on either end for driving to and from Minneapolis so the latest we can stay is the 2nd or 3rd.....might try to talk DH into staying the extra day tho....:rolleyes1

WOO-HOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:cool1:  :woohoo: :yay: :dance3: :cheer2:

I JUST BOOKED OUR TRIP!!!!!

I couldn't wait! I called and the CM with whom I spoke said "You have a REALLY GOOD DEAL HERE!!!" It turns out that I had the 40% PIN attached to our name!

POLY - Here we come!!!!! soexcitedsoexcitedsoexcited!!!!!!! :woohoo:

Congrats on booking your trip!!! :cool1: Lucky you having the 40% off PIN! YAY another DIS Meet!! Should be pretty easy to set up since we will both be at the same resort! :yay:

We go back to school on the 6th, so if we fly home on the 4th that should give us enough time to recover and get prepared for the fist day of school. I hope! :rotfl:

Hey Kimmy! :goodvibes

I just checked the UG site for you and the #'s look the best for the 2 weeks in Oct! Lots of very low numbers :cool1: I know you really wanted to see the Christmas stuff but the days for your November week include Jersey week and those #'s are nasty like lots of high numbers!!!

MNSSHP would be on and you would still have really nice warm weather to be able to goswimming with!! :)

Kim~ I personally would do the full week before Thanksgiving and just pull him out of school. If it were me. BUT!! That may not be an option for you or with your school policies--if you just can't then do Oct. It'll still be pretty warm, but the option of doing the first week of Nov and dealing with Jersey week would decide it for me. I have been twice in Oct--once was great, the 2nd time was reaally warm and humid..so just be prepared to plan your day with being indoors during the hottest part. The Fall decor are awesome!!! And if you decide to do the halloween party you won't be disappointed. Bring their costumes and let 'em trick-or-treat there!! The characters are all out roaming around..its a blast!!!!!
You've got plenty of time to decide! Don't stress yet!!! I think I read some where that most people plan 6 months out...so you should be good for room requests and stuff until April!!

Kim and Shelly- Way to go on the discounts ladies!!!! Let the countdown begin and let the Snowbird meet planning begin! Kim, I hope you get that extra day! Shelly, Poly :cloud9: enjoy it!!!!

Thanks Kim! :goodvibes

I would stay away from Jersey Week if you can. The second or third week of November will be much less crowded and the Christmas decorations & parties & lights will start the second week.

I'm not sure about October. We went once the very first week and it was very crowded. Mid-late October used to be a good time, but now I hear it is getting to be a busier time. I think the MNSSHP is very popular! So if you have to go in Oct you could enjoy that party.

I'm sure either time will be great for you family, but I know you have really been wanting to see Disney at Christmas, so I hope you get to do that! :santa:

Kim- Friends of ours were at WDW from Oct 23-30 this past year and they said it was great and not too crowded. They said the weather was perfect too. I must say, MNSSHP is SOOOO worth the extra money! I would do that again in a heartbeat. We got tons of candy, the park looked awesome and we met characters that are NEVER out and about. That's just my 2 cents!

I'd love to post some pics-can anyone give me the dumb girl's instructions to posting pics on the Dis? :lmao:(or are they posted somewhere already??):confused3

Jenny...you first need to transfer them from your laptop to an account like Photobucket...that's the first step! After they are on their you can put them on here...if you have that part taken care of already then we can tell you how to post them from there. It took me FOREVER to figure out the next part!!! The girls here had to tell me step by step!!!

Sarah- So happy you are feeling great!

Well, Kimmy, if you decide on the first week (10/15-22), we could have another Snowbird meet! That's the week I'm currently planning on going! I don't have any little ones; our draw is Food & Wine. :woohoo:

And thanks for the crowd numbers, too!

DH and I talked last night. Well, I mostly did the talking while he listened and nodded.
We decided on October 15-22. :goodvibes October fits better with Andrew's school calendar and the crowds should be pretty good. Going during Jersey week worries me and we don't want to go in Nov when only SOME of the Christmas stuff will be up. I'd rather wait and go in December another year so we can enjoy everything Christmassy. I'm excited to do MNSSHP since we've never done it before.
Start praying for me now... we're driving! :faint: Flying is just too expensive and we love having a car while we're down there. If it means I get to Disney I'll suffer through it. We also decided that the trip will be a surprise for the kids. The last 2 trips Andrew puked because he was so excited and didn't sleep the night before. He doesn't get car sick but gets nauseated like me if he doesn't get enough sleep. We're going to wake them early on Friday, Oct. 14th and then tell them we're hopping into the car for Disney! It's going to be hard to keep it quiet until then but I DO NOT want to drive with a puking kid again. I've added dramamine to my packing list just in case this time though. Maybe I'll take preventative measures and give it to both of them with breakfast.

I'm excited to plan a surprise again!

Sorry Kim, but I LOL's at the pukey thing! Poor Andrew (and poor you)!

I was confused for a minute when I saw that nobody has posted on the other thread since December 12th....but then it occurred to me that there was probably a new thread.

I hope everybody is doing great!

YAY Kim!!! :cool1: So have you called to book yet??? :confused3 I would totally encourage you to go ahead and call and just see if you maybe have a PIN code!!! It doesn't hurt! :) Apparently the one that I had was good for dates through Dec 2011!!! That ticker looks amazing! So happy for you!

Hi Becca! Hope you and Gideon are doing well! Is Logan still across the pond?

It was AWFUL and I do not want to relive it this trip. Last trip he finally fell asleep about 11:30pm and we woke him to leave at 2am so he got about 2.5 hours of sleep and just went downhill from there. :sad2: This time we aren't going to leave until 4 or 5am (2am was too hard) and we'll get them to bed normal time at 7:30 so he should be well rested. :goodvibes

Thanks Kim!!!! I just called and booked the room only reservation! No pins attached to my name but I'm crossing my fingers that something will be released between now and then!

I completely scared my mom a few minutes ago! :lmao: I called and told her we had something exciting happening in about 9 months. I meant Disney and she thought baby! :scared1: It never crossed my mind that she would think I was pregnant (DH went for a you know what *ahem* almost 2 years ago so it's not even something I think about). It was a good laugh! :rotfl:
