~Snowbird Chat 2~

Quick check in before my day gets busy. My mom and sister and I went up to the outlets in Lancaster PA this weekend. I got the kids some tshirts for the trip from the Disney Store outlet. They are already washed and packed in their bags along with their summer shorts. I went through their drawers and got out all their fall/winter clothes so figured I would pack their summer stuff for the trip meanwhile instead of just packing them away in the closet for the winter season. :thumbsup2 Plus it felt really good to start packing! :rotfl:

Shawna- Pooh's foot is almost touching the castle in your ticker!!!!

Shelly/Red- Hooray for a pretty Disney binder! And thanks for the reminder that I need to get over to the Creative DISigns forum and pick out some tshirt designs too!

I think all of our reservations are set also... well kind of... I made a dinner reservation at Kouzzina and everyone is complaining about it... so I need to change it... but I don't want to pick a place that has to go into the park as Tim and Daniel will not be using a park ticket that day.. so it needs to be a resort or DTD... any suggestions? I am trying to make sure its on the dining plan in case they come out with that discount for cast members...

I really need to get back to updating my pre-trip report... today!!!

I've penciled it in, Sarah! You better be well enough to meet!

Well, I'm well enough! My husband, on the other hand, has the flu. I'm working on those YOU BETTER IMPROVE DAMMIT vibes like you wouldn't believe! But I think he's dumb enough that we'll end up in Boston on Friday (!!) anyway.

Besides, I've lost sight of real flu versus man flu. He did have a fever, so he's definitely ill... but then he complains about a stomach ache when he makes the worst possible food choices. MEN!

I'll PM you here or on Facebook so we can start nailing down some specifics! :D

I fly to Boston on Thursday! Woohoo!

We're flying to Seattle on November 10! Woohoo! This is a business trip/conference for him and a tag-along event for me. It turns out that the hotels charge the same, regardless if one or two people stay in the room, and fares were almost $100 less than I expected! I can't wait!!

I loved Kouzzina both times I've eaten there - what are people complaining about?

Kim...I am so jealous of all of you that really get to pack up summer clothes because you have a fall/winter!!! I will have to take stuff out of the laundry for us to pack!!!! At least I can pack and ship my toiletries!!! Your little ticker is coming along nicely too!! Look at Jiminy almost on top of that clock! LOL!!
Wendy, yes, do more on your TR! I was enjoying it~
Sarah,,,hope Jeremy gets well super quick and you enjoy all the trips you have coming up!!

Looking forward to hearing from you, and meeting you, Sarah! :surfweb:(Although maybe leave hubby at the hotel; I don't need to get sick on my vacation! Four more days!)

Just had to say...

LOOK AT MY TICKER!!

I am down to days now!! I have looots to do between now and then!!!! I even need to make my T-day plans now because I have to buy the turkey before I go! If not, they will all be sold out when I get home! This week is gonna be busy for me,...I have soooo many lists to make!!

Oh, I'm so jealous looking at your tickers!

I can't pack away any summer clothes yet! Can you believe we've been having 80 degree days this late? Me neither. Of course, by Halloween we'll be wearing winter coats like usual.

Sarah - hope your DH gets well soon!

Shawna - love the idea of the hotel overnight by the airport. Does that mess up your packing some? When we drive we always have to pack an extra "overnight" bag with pjs and toiletries and a change of clothes. Then we just take that into the hotel if/when we stop for a night.

Did I tell you guys that Dave and I are going to a Halloween party dressed as Mouseketeers? I've got to make the iron ons for the t-shirts. It's going to have a Mickey Mouse Club logo and the name underneath. Then he'll wear dark pants and I'll wear a skirt (if I can find one). Plus our Mickey ears. Voila'!

I can't believe y'all have halloweens that cold!!My kids are usually literal sweat heads by the time we get home!! It is always sooo hot and suuuuper humid that week!! Good idea for y'all's costumes!!:thumbsup2
Yeah, it does mess up my packing! I did the same thing you do when we hoteled last trip....Just pjs, and what we were wearing the next day...of course, me and ds15 HAVE to wash our hair the next morning!! Oily haired peeps that we are! so, repack the flat iron!! I gotta get on that decision this week~!~! you all know my hubby belongs to the Procrastinator Club!:sad2: I of course, am the direct opposite....I would start packing clothes TODAY if I could. What's is really crazy is this....I get super, super amped up--like my heartrate is up and I am shaky, if I feel late, or not prepared for stuff. I try to talk myself out of it and say it's okay, it really, really doesn't matter..but geeeez...it never helps. DH on the other hand would waltz in, pack that morning, leave 15 minutes later than me and we would both get to the airplane( or church, or movie,or whatever ) in usually the same amount of time!! Well, usually I am about 15 minutes earlier than him, but generally, nothing major...but I feel better if I am early, and he could care less!!!
Do any of you get yourself all anxious before you go places? OH,..and of course, house has to be cleaned, car washed, laundry done...all that stuff taken care of.....

I do tend to get worked up before a trip. But I don't wash the car! :)

I think it may be that we (as the wives/moms) typically have more on our to-do list than the dad/husbands usually. Yes, I'm stereotyping. So sue me.

I'm a big planner and list maker and I do that so I can double check things to alleviate my anxiety. At least then I know the big stuff is covered. Are you a list maker Shawna? My DH relies on mine a little too.

I hate being late for things. I've mellowed over the years, but still don't like it. Although I'm noticing that when I am late, it doesn't usually seem to matter to anyone else. Probably because everyone else is always late too! My mom is one of those "must be 15 minutes or more early for everything" people. So if she's on time, she thinks she's late. I must have gotten it from her. Once I had kids, I was forced to slow down and just deal with it. I'd rather be late than not get there at all (which is why I don't fret about being late for work - of course my boss is nice!).

OMG!! Is your mom my mom too?!!! Yes,...i have multiple lists for a trip all the time,....and lists for everything else too--gotta have them! I just have a thing about making a list then being able to mark it off!!!! Makes me feel like I am in control Iguess, or that I am making progress!! I have gotten better also, but still wound up at trip time!

OMG...I'm not a mother yet, and I live because of lists. What does that make me?!?!?:rotfl:

The younger daughter that we are going with asked me yesterday if I am making a packing list for them. She said she didn't want to forget anything. So what do I do today, I start making a packing list! :rolleyes1

I ran to the grocery store this morning for 2 things but I made a list before I left the house! I think part of it is that I have terrible memory so if I don't write it down, I'm almost guarenteed to forget something.

I LOVE Seattle! I have family out there, and just love visiting them. I think if I had to move anywhere - it would be the beautiful Pacific Northwest. How long will you be staying out there?

I hate being late, too.... Just drives me batty. I was sitting in a meeting a few weeks ago. We were 30 minutes into it, and actually close to wrapping up. Another couple that was supposed to be there decided THEN to show up! I was floored. So we had to rehash everything for them. I understand there are going to be times that people will be late. But 30 minutes for a 30-45 minute meeting? Then the wife took a personal call in the middle of the rehash and just sat there talking - didn't bother to leave the room. Then she had to tell DH what the call was about. :sad2:

Red...yep...you will be driven by 'the lists' when you have kids!:lmao:
Mermaid,...how rude!!! That stuff reaaaallly annoys me!!! What a way to say: I am soo much more important than anyone else. Oh,..I am in the twenties now!!!:yay::yay::dance3::dance3:

HI Snowbirds!!! We are headed to Disney on Friday via the autotrain:banana::banana: I am so excited. I am totally procrastinating on the packing though. Not sure what that is all about.

I am trying to decide if we should drive to the train station Friday morning or drive down Thursday night and stay in a hotel nearby. Its about 180 miles to Lorton, Va from here but with Maryland and DC traffic it can take a while.

Things I am really excited about for this trip... in random order. lol
All of my family is now tall enough for Space Mountain and Everst!!
My daughter says she will finally go on Splash Mountain
Trying out a water park or 2:)
Staying at BLT for the first time and walking to the magic kingdom
Sending our girls to the alice in wonderland tea party (shhh its a surprise)
Food and Wine festival

I asked my daughter what she was most excited about....her response "the train". I love kids. They are so cute.

I also really liked Kouzzina for whoever mentioned it. We had an amazing meal there.

Okay, I messaged you on Facebook! He's doing much better now and his fever is gone. I think between the two of us, we had every symptom of the flu. Haha. Influenza B has hit our area early and hard. So I guess we're done with that!

Sarah - hope your DH gets well soon!

Thanks! He's finally on the mend. Good thing, too, because for having an upset stomach, the only worse things he could have eaten would be fast food. MEN!

It's a short trip for me - the 10th through the 14th. The husband will fly back on the 18th. It really is lovely out there. This is my third trip to Seattle. The first one was a vacation and the second one was a pass through. November weather could be iffy, but I'm not sure how that's different than in Michigan!

HI Snowbirds!!! We are headed to Disney on Friday via the autotrain:banana::banana: I am so excited. I am totally procrastinating on the packing though. Not sure what that is all about.

Have a blast!!

YEAH! Didn't realize your trip was so close. And your daughter's comment sounds very similar to what I'm sure my son's would be. As much as he loves Disney, the thrill of riding a train would be what excited him the most. :)

Woooo hooo!!! That sounds so great!
What time do you have to be at the train station? If it's fairly early, I say go the night before!

Staying at BLT and walking to/from MK is so terrific! NO LINES to wait in for buses, monorails, boats, NOTHING!

I'd love to hear how your girls like that tea party. Will everyone go on Space and Everest? What fun! No one in my family will. I'd maybe try Space (I did it in CA when I was a teen). But I need someone with me. I'm not going by myself!

I hope you have an awesome time!!!

I think it may be that we (as the wives/moms) typically have more on our to-do list than the dad/husbands usually. Yes, I'm stereotyping. So sue me.

My Disney planning list is definitely longer than Logan's. Our daily to-do lists are usually about the same, but mostly because he's not very efficient at completing his list.

For Disney or travel in general, Logan's main responsibility is packing for himself. I packed for him once, and it was a problem. If I can get him to pack more than 24 hours in advance I count myself as lucky.

If we ever live near Virginia, I'll probably plan on the autotrain. Logan would LOVE it.

One of my friends is thinking about planning a trip to Disney next May, so I get to give her suggestions. From that I found out that they're starting to charge for cancelling at more restaurants. :headache:
We keep most of our ADRs, but there seems to always be that one that we don't feel like going to. I guess the ones they're charging for are hard enough to get that we probably wouldn't need to cancel, but we DID cancel Ohana on our last trip. Now I guess I'll just have to be more careful about when and where I schedule our meals.
I wonder if its a 24 hour cancellation policy, or just "the day before." I guess there will probably be some flexibility as long as you cancel, but I can't imagine being stuck paying $10/person if we miss an ADR! I wonder what they'll do if one person doesn't show up, but the rest of the party does?

Andrea...have a blast!!!!! You will loooove walking over to the MK!! It's the best thing evah!!! I am sure my middle one would pick the train as a highlight too...and not sure that I wouldn't either!!!! I say since its that far, go the night before!!! I am debating the same thing,..our flight is a bit before 9 am and I have to leave here by 5 or a hair later to get to Houston, park in a parking garage, and go thru security....if the parking garage takes a while, we could miss our 45 minute check in with the airline!! I know we will make it.,but the OCD in me is kicking in!!!!!! Take lots of pics!!!!!
