Snow to 80 in 8 days–A spoonful of Holiday Cheer (2/5 update Ch 36 - Final Thoughts)

How did we travel to Cape May Cafe for dinner? By your car because you would have been too late to wait for the bus

Did we make our CMC ADR on time? Just a little late

What connection did Matt make from the Toy Story movies due to his order at CMC? With your hint, I'll go with a Bud (Buzz) light beer. I've tried googling to find out, but gave up because the kids want me to get off the computer & come play with them :-)

What did we find before leaving Beach Club after our dinner at CMC? A hidden Mickey

What did Marv purchase at DHS after we returned to the park? a '2011 Happy News Year' item.

Did we stay at DHS long enough to see the NYE fireworks? Of course! Why be at WDW on NYE & not stay to watch the fireworks. And, you have to be a good dis'er & let us know what it's like!!!!

Guesses on resort room location and other random but significant ( thinking how many times did I ride this or character meets) can be fun and since it relies on some luck and park knowledge it makes it fun. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks Pat - you gave me a couple more questions!

What connection did Matt make from the Toy Story movies due to his order at CMC?

I cannot really say as we've only seen the first movie...yes, I know, we are bad Disney people. I'm going to guess a glowing Buzz is what Matt referenced...and that it glowed like his dad's forehead

Short contest round to finish up our DHS day, and once again, just post your answers in super secret white text!!!

My answers are super secret below - good thing you're waiting for Liesa!:lmao:

1. You decided to work up an appetite and walked around from the DHS side to Beach club and Cape may

2. Yes - being Military, Matt made sure you were actually a few minutes early. On time is late.

3. He got some sliced Ham

4. Goofy was strolling around in his 1920's bathing suit

5. Marv purchased a sweatshirt because it was getting chilly out

6. Of course! That's the whole reason to book over NYE!

Boy, I wish I had more time to research these answers... they are hard ones!

How did we travel to Cape May Cafe for dinner?

I think you took your car, and they all took a boat in the end, because they didn't have time to go all the way back to the room first. You met up there and then drove to DHS together from dinner.

Did we make our CMC ADR on time?

I think you were a little late, but not enough to worry about.

What connection did Matt make from the Toy Story movies due to his order at CMC?

If I were home, I'd watch the movie again so I could guess on this one. I have seen everyone's answers and it would be cheating to make a guess now, so I will have to just ask for a bonus point for being honest. :goodvibes

What did we find before leaving Beach Club after our dinner at CMC?

I think 2 things. First of all, and most importantly, because you've said this over and over... you went and found the gingerbread carousel and other fun Christmas decorations. If you were lucky you found the HM(s) in it. You also went to find B&C.

What did Marv purchase at DHS after we returned to the park?

A New Year's/ Christmas ornament from 2011.

Did we stay at DHS long enough to see the NYE fireworks?

DUH.

Marv, you are a great guy!! :goodvibes Thanks!!

A Hidden Mickey

What did Marv purchase at DHS after we returned to the park?

a Mickey watch

Did we stay at DHS long enough to see the NYE fireworks?

Hmmm, you had an early start so I am really torn about this answer. On the one hand I think this trip as all about relaxing, so that would mean that you went home before midnight. BUT then you seemed to enjoy evenings in the trip previously and it was NYE after all... So I will go with: yes, you saw the fireworks! I hope they were great!

Thanks for the heads up Marv. This week was birthday week for the girls so I've been real busy with the parties. Thankfully the last party was last night.

Although I did okay the last round I'm afraid my brain is fuzzy from all the parties and I'm really stumped.

How did we travel to Cape May Cafe for dinner? I'm going to guess that you took the bus to DHS and the boat to the Boardwalk area. You exited at the Swan/Dolphin launch and walked to the Beach Club.

Did we make our CMC ADR on time? Yes! Because you're usuall on time if not early.

What connection did Matt make from the Toy Story movies due to his order at CMC? I have no idea. CMC diner is a buffet with seafood. I'm totally lost on this one.

What did we find before leaving Beach Club after our dinner at CMC? Stormalong bay?

What did Marv purchase at DHS after we returned to the park? popcorn

Did we stay at DHS long enough to see the NYE fireworks?
Yes!

Marv - where are you? Now that it looks like the regulars have all guessed it is time for an update!!! :cool1::woohoo::yay: I am dying to know the Toy Story answer!

I'm around! Couple more people I am giving a little more time to get their answers in. Part one of the next update is ready to go. Working on the finishing touches for part two now. :thumbsup2 Too many pictures to get it all in a one parter!

Hey Marv! Sorry I'm late. Thanks for the grace period in getting these answers in.

How did we travel to Cape May Cafe for dinner?

Very slowly.

Oh, sorry. You took the boat from DHS to the Yacht Club.

Did we make our CMC ADR on time?

Sure, why not?

What connection did Matt make from the Toy Story movies due to his order at CMC?

Ok, as the resident movie buff, this one is killing me. I can't think of anything from the Toy Story movies that would connect with the Cape May Cafe. The only thing I can think of is the part from Toy Story 2 when the toys are trying to get into Al's apartment building, and someone suggests they pretend they're delivering a pizza, and Hamm says, "How about a ham sandwich with fries and a hot dog?" (referencing himself, Mr. Potato Head and Slinky).

What did we find before leaving Beach Club after our dinner at CMC?

The bathroom. Those fried shrimp are a killer. Then you found Beaches & Cream and saw someone eating the Kitchen Sink.

What did Marv purchase at DHS after we returned to the park?

A Tinkerbell key chain. Or a WDW hoodie.

Did we stay at DHS long enough to see the NYE fireworks?

Sure, why not?

Marv, please forgive my absence! I'm truly just an  Ok, here are my guesses!

How did we travel to Cape May Cafe for dinner?Hmm, I'm going to say by boat since you were most likely cutting it a wee bit close and waiting for a bus would take too long

Did we make our CMC ADR on time?Of course silly!

What connection did Matt make from the Toy Story movies due to his order at CMC?I have no idea at all. Serioulsy, my mind is a total blank here. Um, if it's a buffet, what would he order then?? A drink? Oooh, a light up drink like the Buzz Lightyear clip on one? That's all I can think of.

What did we find before leaving Beach Club after our dinner at CMC?The check? Just kidding! A hidden Mickey.

What did Marv purchase at DHS after we returned to the park?Another Christmas ornament? Or perhaps a milkshake? I'm going to with a milkshake from Bill and Min's.

Did we stay at DHS long enough to see the NYE fireworks?
Yesiree!

Short contest round to finish up our DHS day, and once again, just post your answers in super secret white text!!!

Answers above. Keeping my fingers crossed but I did that last time and well, I scored "a" point...one, uno, un, eins. Sigh. :sad1:

When the family finally rejoined me at Kidani it was getting much later than I had hoped. The goal, especially since we didn't make it for our trip to WL and WCC, was to drive over to DHS and leave the car there while we took the boat over to the Beach Club for our dinner ADR. I told everyone to hurry and be ready to head out. It had gotten quite warm as the day went on, and everyone was searching for something cooler to wear, but we were very soon headed to the car. As I drove out of the parking garage I knew everything would have to go very smoothly for us to be able to make DHS, park, catch the watercraft and make it on time for our ADR.

I set a course for DHS and had to deal with the typical traffic for that time of day. We made pretty good time and were finally separating from the crowd headed towards the entrance to DHS. I can't remember if we were able to get into the parking lot free because we flashed our APs, or because we are DVC members. I think it was because the parking pass in the front of the car showed we were a DVC member. As I followed the path through the parking lot and kept one eye on the time I just didn't think we would be able to make our ADR on time unless we got completely lucky and were able to catch the boat just as it was about to leave. I wasn't feeling too comfortable about that so I circled right through the parking lot and right into the exit lane and headed back out. Quickly finding the turns we needed to make for Beach Club we were soon parking in their parking lot.

We got out and headed in about 10 minutes before our ADR time. As we entered and checked in we noticed that CMC did not have many people there so far. As soon as they verified our reservation they took us straight to our table. While we waited I took a picture of the Sand Castle art on display in the restaurant. You can see there was absolutely nobody sitting in this area of the restaurant. Maybe it had to do with the early 5:10pm ADR we had.

Our waiter Erik came by and told us about what was offered on the buffet and took our drink orders. This was the first time we had been to Cape May Café to eat, but we were excited about the seafood, and the boys love the thought of all-you-can-eat crab legs. We all headed off to get our food. Here is some of what they had on the buffet.

053.jpg

Erik brought out our drinks. For some reason, even as hot as it was, Matthew ordered hot tea to drink. They brought him hot water and a dish with a number of different teabags. One of those was Darjeeling and the line from Toy Story where Buzz is part of the tea party with Hannah, Sid’s sister and he says “One minute you're defending the whole galaxy, and, suddenly, you find yourself sucking down Darjeeling with Marie Antoinette... and her little sister” finally made sense to Matthew. Until then he didn’t realize that Darjeeling was tea instead of just a drink.

After we finished numerous trips through the buffet line it was time to see what was on the menu for dessert. This is just a sample of the many very good items they offered.

There were a few different reasons I chose to try Cape May Café for the first time this trip, but one of the biggest was what had driven our plans this whole trip so far…….Christmas decorations and seeing some of those that seem to be the most popular. Beach Club is one of those places and after settling our bill we headed out to find them.

048.jpg

One of the most popular things at Beach Club is the gingerbread carousel. This is really fun and they also have numerous hidden Mickeys and other items in the displays in the area for you to find.
044.jpg

046.jpg

This ingredient list sounded a lot like the one they had at the Grand Floridian for the Gingerbread house……

This is an example of the Hidden Mickeys. I can’t remember how many there were, but I’m pretty sure we found all of them. We also found all the different items hidden throughout the displays that they listed for you to find.
064.jpg

We really enjoyed the decorations at the Beach Club, and the boys had a good time finding everything. As for the meal, we weren’t overly impressed. I really don’t know the complete reason. I think it was a lot of things. First of all, we all grew up in an area that is big for seafood, so we have a lot to compare it to. It just seems like most of what we had was a little cold, which seems odd since there were so few people in the restaurant at the time. The very popular items would disappear quickly when they would be put out. If we weren’t the first ones there when they put out new items, we ended up trying some of the less popular things and it seemed like they had been out for a while maybe. I think if we ever went back to Cape May Café I would want to make sure our ADR is maybe at a time that is more busy so the food is fresher and hotter when we get it. Some of the desserts were really good though.

After spending our time exploring the Beach Club we headed out for our evening back at DHS and finally returning to see the Osborne Family Festival of Lights! We had seen this once before and it was definitely one of the must-do’s on our return trip! The good news is the temperatures had continued to get warmer as our week had gone on. The snow and cold temperatures appeared to be behind us, and as we walked back to our car, it looked like a beautiful evening ahead!!!

Continued Next Post - New Year’s Eve, DHS and Osborne Lights

It was already dark as we got in the car and drove back over to DHS. We were able to park really close and were soon heading into the park. On the way in we didn’t get any additional LMA fastpasses, but we WERE greeted with this sight.
065.jpg

As we entered the park we got to enjoy the decorations all lit up.

One thing I’ve always tried to do when we’ve been at Disney during any Holiday is to get a Collector Pin for that particular day. Since it was New Year’s Eve I took the opportunity to purchase a New Year’s Eve 2010 pin that had Chip and Dale, two of my favorite characters, on it.

After taking care of that little piece of business we finally headed over to check out the Osborne lights for the first time this trip. I’ll let the pictures tell the tale here.

Somewhere in the middle of taking all of these pictures we noticed a number of people walking around with NYE hats and horns. We asked someone where they got them and they told us they were handing them out over at Lights, Motors, Action. Alison and I headed over to get hats and horns for us and the boys, who had headed off towards RnR and ToT and get in a few more rides. We headed back over to Osborne Lights for a few more pictures. As we were walking around I handed the camera to Alison and told her she had to take a picture of me. After all, There was a pole…..
What would Rosie do???

It was still a long time until Midnight since it was only about 8:30. There wasn’t really anything else we wanted to do so we decided to head back to the room and watch the Chik-Fil-A bowl game on TV and head back over to DHS later for the NYE fireworks. The boys were trying to get in one more ride so we drove back over to Kidani and the boys caught a bus when they got done.

It had been a long day already, and the bowl game wasn’t going the way we wanted. We had already seen fireworks at the MK earlier in the week, and we would be at Epcot in a couple of days, plus rope drop at AK awaited us the next morning, so we decided to forego the NYE fireworks instead of heading back to DHS.

Coming Up – Animal Kingdom Day

Christmas decorations.....DUH! Why didn't I think of that. I keep forgetting you were there when all the decorations were still up.

Chip & Dale are your favourite characters too?!?! Why did I not know this? No smart remarks about my intelligence

Eureka! I was right about the Darjeeling tea. When I was younger I thought Buzz was getting drunk from booze but it's even funnier that he's wasted from tea :rotfl: Hope the tea Matthew got didn't go to his head.

Aren't the Osbourne Lights magical? I could sit there for hours and never get bored. I can't believe you didn't go see the fireworks!!!

Should have been an easy one.....but apparently not since there were a number of people who didn't go that direction.

I have a number of Disney characters I really like. Chip and Dale were certainly ones I enjoyed watching when I was a kid. Goofy and Donald are a couple of others since all of those seem to get into mischief one way or another. Not sure what that says about me....... :rolleyes1

The only thing you order at CMC is your drink, so I expected this one to be a little more obvious than it appeared to be also. I loved that line in the movie, and the way Buzz was, well "buzzed" from drinking tea. The Darjeeling didn't go to Matt's head. Of course I'm surprised he didn't order something that might have........ :rotfl:

Love the Osborne lights, and if I didn't know they would still be there that night, I would have already made a special trip to enjoy them (we tried anyway but the buses wouldn't cooperate). They never get tiring and we spent quite a bit of time there as it was.

As for the fireworks, we have seen the July 4th fireworks at DHS before and enjoyed them, especially since we didn't have to fight the crowds at MK and Epcot. There is nothing really extra special about them, but if you just HAVE to see fireworks, they fill in pretty well. Still, an early morning the next day was a much higher priority.

Love all of the Osborne lights photos! We have not seen those yet. We were there in mid-November one year so we go to see a lot of the Christmas decorations but the lights weren't on yet. Well, I didn't so so hot on the questions! Next round I will have to study and focus! (and maybe try to earn myself a few bonus points - LOL!)

doh...christmas decorations.

did you also happen to walk past beaches and cream?
:rolleyes1

i should have remembered how old you were and that you couldnt make it up to midnight.
:sad2:

i mean who you woke up so early with your boys, and that you were tired, and wanted to go back to the room early with the misses and have a little quite time.

You HAVE to make it to see them sometime! Just standing there and listening to the music and watching the lights dance along with the song. It is really cool all by itself, but when you are standing there and it starts "snowing" it just really draws you in!

Yeah.....how many times have I said that already in this TR???? :sad2:
