Snow to 80 in 8 days–A spoonful of Holiday Cheer (2/5 update Ch 36 - Final Thoughts)

After the show we began to look around for what we wanted to do next. Space Mountain had about a 60 minute wait. Buzz Lightyear was just as bad, and we didn’t even look toward Stitch’s Great Escape. Neither DW nor I were the least bit interested in spending our little bit of time standing in a long line, so we headed back towards the end of Main Street and Cinderella’s Castle. As we came across the bridge we wanted to get a Photopass picture, but the line was too long. It was a great opportunity for this shot though….

We walked a little farther and realized that it was almost time for Wishes to begin, and we were able to grab a good spot right near the cable where I knew Tinkerbelle would pass during her flight. While we waited I took the chance to get a few more pictures of the castle in all of its lighted splendor.

The music came on, and Wishes began. I always love Wishes and really enjoy the fireworks and the pageantry. I had the camera ready in anticipation of Tinkerbelle's flight. As Tinkerbelle soared towards us I snapped a picture.....and nothing happened! The camera put one of those stupid errors up that always frustrate me. My opportunity was passing and finally the error cleared. I quickly pressed the button again, and again.....nothing! The one time I am right near the cable, prepared for an excellent chance to get the shot, and I come up empty!!! Not even a single blurry picture; and Tinkerbelle was gone........

Even so, Wishes was still as wonderful and enjoyable as it always is. I love watching the fireworks and how they highlight the castle, with its ever changing colors.

After the show, we head towards Main Street to enjoy the decorations we bypassed on our backstage trip to Tomorrowland when we entered the park. We were hoping to make it to the area near City Hall to find a good spot to enjoy the second MSEP, and be ready to leave shortly thereafter. I realized that the boys would probably find it difficult to meet us at the assigned time since they would probably run into the crowds watching the parade, so I sent them a text message adjusting our meeting time slightly, and telling them to take the parade into account.

As we wandered back up Main Street, USA, I tried to get a lot of pictures of decorations, since I did very little of this on our previous trip during the Christmas season. Disney does a great job of transforming the parks and resorts during the different holidays!!!

About this time we arrived outside of the Main Street Bakery and DW decided she wanted some hot chocolate. As she went inside to get our drinks, I wandered around the area taking more pictures. One of the first things that got my attention was that it had begun to snow on Main Street USA.
100.jpg

Main Street USA is beautifully decorated!!!
098.jpg

DW finally got our hot chocolates and rejoined me. Hot was definitely a misnomer on this night, so I hurriedly finished mine. There were a number of Photopass CMs taking pictures on Main Street. We never took enough PP pictures on the trip to make it worthwhile getting the CD, but I have learned on the DIS boards that you can get the photographer to also take pictures with your own camera when they take the PP pictures.

As we strolled down MS, USA, we also saw these sights

And

They were starting to rope off areas in anticipation of the MSEP starting. DW and I found a great spot near the beginning of the parade and staked our claim. I really wanted to see this parade again since we had first seen it 25 years ago on a trip to Disneyland, and it was quite a spectacle to us since it was our first nighttime electrical parade.

Matt hates this picture because he knows the girl is making an incorrect salute. To show the palm of your hand when you salute is a major faux pas!!! He knows they probably aren't aware of this, and he really wants to contact Disney and inform them in hopes they will correct it.
150.jpg

When the parade ended, DW and I walked over to the flagpole where we were meeting DS's.
154.jpg

They were there soon after the parade ended and we headed out of the park. The boys had endured lines to ride Space Mountain, HM, BTMRR and PotC, so their evening wasn't a total waste, but none of us really wanted to go so quickly after arriving. We knew this night was a bonus, and we needed to get back to our hotel and get some sleep so we could get checked into Kidani the next morning and begin the main part of our Disney stay!

On the way out I took one of those pictures you are always in too much of a hurry to take when you enter the park, so it always seems to get taken when you are leaving, which is bittersweet.
156.jpg

We headed towards the monorail station so we could get back to the TTC and find our car. As we were walking that way with a huge number of people, one of the boys noticed how many people were already waiting on the ramp. As I rolled my eyes and thought about how long we were about to wait, I suddenly remembered a nice little tidbit of information. I subscribe to the "Your BEST WDW theme park secret!" thread on the DIS. Not long before our trip someone posted a tip that most people head for the monorail platform that says it is to the TTC and parking. However, most don't realize or think about the fact that the Resort Monorail makes its first stop at the Contemporary, and the second stop is none other than the TTC! I quickly redirected the family towards the Resort Monorail side of the platform while getting quizzical looks as to why we were going there. I hurriedly whispered this great little tidbit of information to them and we headed up to an almost empty platform!!!

Within about a minute our monorail arrived, appropriately Lime Green since I got this wonderful little tip from the DIS.
157.jpg

We quickly boarded and were on our way, exiting off at the TTC after a short stop at the Contemporary, just like the tip said!!!

Knowing the mistake we had made before with our parking spot being so close, we started walking towards the car. I guess being pent up all day, and not having a whole lot of time to expend energy in the park, Matt and Drew decided they needed to race to the car. When we finally spotted the car, with both boys leaning on it, I used the key fob to unlock the car so they could get in. When DW, Jon and I finally arrived, I started the car and we had to wait for the windows to clear. It was starting to get quite cold for a Florida evening at Disney.

We got back to the hotel, and everyone got ready for bed. In spite of a very long day, it took a while for us to turn off the lights and finally get to sleep. We were laughing and having a good time just chatting. :grouphug: I decided to set the alarm for a later time than originally planned so we could get some rest before our move to Kidani. After all, this was vacation and we were on extra time anyway.........

Coming up - Chapter 9 Move to Kidani and Epcot Day!

The overall leader of the contest, after the completion of 1 round is:

Tom (SurfinTX) with 5 correct answers and 1 bonus point - 5(+1) :cheer2:

Those getting 4 correct answers and tied for second are: :woohoo:
Katharina - 4(+2)
Magdalene - 4(+2)
Tanya - 4(+2)
Glenn - 4(+1)
Amy - 4
Molly - 4
Kathy - 4

The highest bonus points awarded were 2 for Katharina, Magdalene, Tanya and Dan. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

And nobody got less than two correct answers, so with at least 5 more individual contests to go it looks like this is going to be quite a battle to the very end!!!

And now I have read all 3 !!!Great pix Marv !!I love the castle at night it brings tears to my eyes !!:hug:I have spotted some answers to your quiz and I fear I am not doing to well but not a 0 at least !!

Just came back from my lunch break and was excitedly jumping around on my office chair when I saw that your update was posted - but that was nothing to the little victory dance I had to make because I guessed the lime green monorail correctly!:banana: Of course, most of my other guesses were pretty far off, but that does not matter. :goodvibes This was my personal favourite and I attribute it to the power of the DIS!! :thumbsup2

How nice of the Hardee's person to help you with out making any fuss! It's a bit like Disney magic. :wizard:

I really liked the picture of you and your DW, you look like you are enjoying Christmas at the MK! It even looks like it is snowing. :thumbsup2

I was wondering that it maybe is on purpose an incorrect salute because it is used in a show context instead of as a real salute? I once read that the flags on top of the buildings in Main Street are not real American flags, they lack a star or something like that, and that's the reason why they can stay up there after sunset while a real flag would have to be taken down? So this might be a similar issue?

Oh, this looks like a close race until the finish! Which makes the whole thing so much more enjoyable! Did I miss it or did you post somewhere for what the bonus points were awarded? I guess one of mine was invoking the DIS as a reason for my choice of lime green? But would love to hear the reasons for all - just out of curiosity!! Not because I want to appeal anything, I understood quite well, that no appeals are possible! :goodvibes

I was well aware of who made that post. I figured Katharina could fully understand the difficulties of dealing with a German Lawyer/Judge from firsthand experience. :rolleyes1

I just used a legal slant for my answer to make sure the Dan's, Rosie's, Molly's and Glenn's (since he of all people probably deserves to return grief to me) of the DISworld realize that all decisions in my contest are mine, and aren't open to appeals and such. I am fairly generous in my judgement from the start, as I like to see as much success as possible. Bonus points I plan to give may be purely on whim, however, and may very well seem inconsistent at times. :)

I did not refer to the legal talk, but when you are quoting Katharina's posts, it does not say "Originally posted by nodnol" but "Originally posted by Flossbolna" and I thought you had changed that??

I would have gone bonkers in that traffic. I have minor road rage issues. ;)

Main Street is so pretty all decorated for Christmas.

Knowing you Rosie, I know the "tears" are a good thing, so glad you enjoyed!! The good news on the contest is only one person got 5, and nobody got less than 2, so that is a pretty tight contest so far, which I guess is amazing since 18 people submitted answers.

I can't describe the positive reaction I had when I read your submittal and saw that answer.....

How nice of the Hardee's person to help you with out making any fuss! It's a bit like Disney magic. :wizard: It was! I don't know if she did that because it is standard, because she knows my Dad is in there all the time, or if the line was so long and she just didn't want to deal with it. Whatever the reason, it was definitely Disney magical!!!

I really liked the picture of you and your DW, you look like you are enjoying Christmas at the MK! It even looks like it is snowing. :thumbsup2 Thanks! We got another one in the other directions with the Christmas tree that was pretty good too, but I didn't want to post both. This was the same "snow" I had the picture of coming from the Casey's Corner roof.

I hadn't thought about that with the salute. And I had forgotten that little tidbit about the flags until you just reminded me.

I hope everyone is in the race up until the final contest questions. That will make it fun for me, and for everyone involved. Bonus points are kind of on a whim, and they will only be used as a tiebreaker for the final results. Your lime green answer got you one. The other was your addition of "3 minutes to spare" about us making it to the ticket office on time. I mentioned that either here or on somebody else's thread, so everyone who caught that and remembered it got the benefit of an additional bonus point. Katharina's came on her answer for leaving late, but not my fault, which I liked AND thought was funny, and the part about bribing the ticket office to stay open, which with the phone calls to them was pretty close to the truth. Pat's answer that we made the ticket office on time, but stressed the whole way and Tanya's "tried for early, but left late" were other examples. Like I said in an earlier post, I want this to be fun, and I am pretty generous with my acceptance of answers, and what strikes me as deserving a bonus point. Creativity is probably the biggest thing over just simple answers.
I did not refer to the legal talk, but when you are quoting Katharina's posts, it does not say "Originally posted by nodnol" but "Originally posted by Flossbolna" and I thought you had changed that??
I did not even notice that until you just mentioned it and I went back and looked. :confused3 That is soooo strange, and no I didn't do anything other than multiquote so I don't know why it put that. No wonder you were confused, and thought I was too...

Thanks for the explanation of the bonus points - I will remember that bit you wrote about creativity!

I actually looked up the available monorail colours and wanted to pick something out of the ordinary and was first going to choose "Coral" because I was sure nobody else was going to chose this. But then I saw that "Lime" was an option as well and thought that it had to be Lime of course! :thumbsup2

With my other answers trying to not take the obvious choices did not go so well... I think my main points were due to remembering stuff (or doing some real research).

I did not even notice that until you just mentioned it and I went back and looked. :confused3 That is soooo strange, and no I didn't do anything other than multiquote so I don't know why it put that. No wonder you were confused, and thought I was too...

I thought so from your answer! I thought that you were joking with me! I know that Great Biscuit likes to do play with the names in the quotes when he multiquotes (and I think others have done it as well). What a strange quirk of the DIS software! :lmao:

Great update and beautiful pictures of the castle at Christmas. And to think that Disney even made it snow... ;)

I would have gone bonkers in that traffic. I have minor road rage issues. ;)

Main Street is so pretty all decorated for Christmas.
Lessa, you ninja posted me and I almost missed it! I am usually fairly calm in these situations, and more focused on trying to get out of it ASAP.....until DW starts making comments about switching back and forth from lane to lane, and THEN I get stressed.......:rolleyes1

I was so disappointed looking back on our last trip like this, and having very few pictures like that. I was on a mission to make up for it this trip.
Great update and beautiful pictures of the castle at Christmas. And to think that Disney even made it snow... ;)
Thanks, and they made it snow for us a few times this trip! And speaking of snow, it is sooo strange that you guys haven't had any this year......... :rolleyes1  Getting pounded with this latest round yet??? I hope all my DISfriends stay safe and warm during all of this! It is crazy how much snow you are all getting!!!

:lmao: It is currently snowing and we're expecting something in the neighborhood of three to six inches before th real fun starts with a huge ice storm tomorrow. I'm a teacher and this is our seventh snow day! :scared1: And I would put money down that we'll have anothe tomorrow. I absolutely cannot wait to get to Florida!

'dang! I knew I should have gone with Lime. Now back to read.

I was surprised I got so many right! :woohoo:

The castle looks so pretty lit up in holiday lights. I really must get there that time of year some time.

Nothing is as nerve racking as bad traffic when you have a deadline! Here is hopping that the Disney Magic will surround you for the rest of the trip.

To get on board late(edited in) with the TR, leading after the first round is pretty impressive! I was really starting to wonder about you when you got the first four correct.......and then you turned human on me!!! :lmao: I was worried you knew me TOO well; either that or we are so much alike it was easy for you to come up with the answers. Now wouldn't THAT be a scary thought......for YOU! :lmao:

Well, I'm glad at least I got some. Hard to believe it gets that cold in Florida at night!

Love your wonderful pictures of the decorations. And your pictures of the castle! The one taken from Tomorrowland is my favourite.

I had no idea Mike and Stitch did a little Christmas show.

Kathy, you all be warm and safe over there! You have food and batteries and lots of cookies, right??

Batteries. Check! Milk. Check! Scotch. Check! Chips Ahoy Cookies. Check. :)

Don't forget the french toast! You need french toast!
