Rosie I can't believe you're leaving so soon! Yes of course I'm doing a report silly. You've already started reading it! And you even answered my quiz questions :lmao: I heard from Marv as well who is keeping busy with a few things. Hopefully he'll be back here soon!

ETA: Yeah so totally didn't realize Kat was the one who asked about my TR. Not sure what I've been smoking :rotfl:

Geez. . .a girl is MIA for a week and I miss restless natives, running amok, Kathy and Jen starting Marv's new TR and Rosie writing poetry! :faint:

Marv - it has been crazy at my office too (hence my MIA status) so take your time and we will be here waiting (and most likely hijacking some more).
I think it has been a crazy time for a lot of people lately. You can tell from this thread who apparently has TOO much time on their hands..... :rolleyes1

I for one am glad Marv is catching up at work and home. :thumbsup2

I have had another crazy week as we transition back to school time. More changes on my end has limited my Dis Time.

Take your time Marv i have to catch up!!!! :rotfl2:
Yeah, we have been transitioning around here too. School started back this past Thursday and since we were away right before, we were scrambling to get everything done to get ready for that. Hopefully it will all settle down soon.
*crickets*

Where did everybody go? :confused3
Let's see, Stitch went to Ottawa, Rosie went to Disney........oh wait, I guess that isn't what you meant. I think we're all still around.......hopefully! :guilty:

Thanks so much Kathy! Saw this sooner but just got the chance to respond! It is so great to have special friends who remember me in such special ways! Like most days lately my birthday was a BUSY day. Hope to slow down a little soon.

And thanks for sending me a picture of "that blue guy!" (Oh wait, that isn't your favorite character after all......) Makes me want to go eat at CP! :cloud9:
Thanks Tanya! Love it! It really "brightened" up my day!!! :goodvibes

Just kidding my Dear, and thanks for the German lesson! :thumbsup2 You know I love those! And no worries on being a little late. I know there is a time difference and all......... :rolleyes1 ;)

Still a lot of extra hours at work, and we will be heavily involved with a soccer tournament this weekend that Drew's soccer club is hosting. I should be finishing up with the extra project work next week, so I hope to be back to get this TR moving along again soon!

In the mean time a little family update! Matt called yesterday morning and told me when he reported to his ship they sent everyone out to make preparations and handle any affairs before they went out to sea to ride out Irene, since they didn't know how long they might be out before they could come back into port. He was supposed to be back on the ship before 12:30 when they would "disconnect" themselves from the dock (communication lines, etc.). They had a planned testing tour coming up in early September, so there was a slight chance they might just stay out and get that done, so they wouldn't be back until possibly the middle of September. The bad part about that is he was supposed to start a five week training class this coming Monday, and wasn't even supposed to report to his ship during that time.

Well, I get a call from him last evening and it turns out the Training Officer went to his CO and told him that Matthew really needed to be in that training class. They said he should have already taken it, and the next chance wouldn't be until next March, so..............

After leaving his car at his apartment and spending $20 for a cab to take him to his ship (so his car wouldn't be sitting on the dock during a possible hurricane, and for who knows how long) he was standing on the dock with all of his stuff waiting on a cab to come get him and take him back to his apartment so he could stay and attend the training class. :lmao:

Yesterday was also a busy one for Drew. He is running cross country again this year. Now last year it wasn't as much of a strain for him because our local soccer club didn't have enough kids his age to field a team, so he ended up just playing REC soccer so he at least got in some soccer work before the spring soccer season at school. It was still a time commitment, but not nearly as tough for Drew and not as many practices as club soccer has since they play at a higher level than the local REC leagues.

Well this fall he is back on a club soccer team which practices about 30 minutes drive away three nights a week. This is a much more intense practice than REC soccer. Cross country practices about two hours every weekday right after school, so three nights a week he goes from CC practice to home for a quick bite to eat and to change so he can leave for soccer practice. Tuesday he had both and got home fairly late and was very tired.

Yesterday they ran a 5K for team time trials to set the CC roster. The top 10 fastest times run for the HS varsity team (and wear the varsity jerseys) and everyone else runs for the JV team. Well one experienced runner for the varsity passed Drew right at the end to take 7th place, but Drew got 8th so he will be running for the varsity team again this year. :woohoo:

The significance of the positions is the top 7 runners get to run in certain events, including State Championships at the end of the year. Being 8th, Drew will get to run in certain of those events because he will be the alternate, but also if they were to go to State right now, he would get to go because he was only 3 seconds out of 7th place. I was really proud of him considering I'm sure he was still somewhat tired from his late night with soccer practice the night before. :thumbsup2

Wow Drew is one busy boy. Training for cross country every day is insane. If I tried doing that now I think I'd have heart failure :rotfl2: At least it trains him for FP runner.

I had heard about the Navy being dispatched due to Irene being on its way. I'm almost glad to hear Matt is sticking it out on land to get training done. He must've looked pretty silly waiting on the dock for a cab with all his gear

Drew as a FP runner? Not sure that would work. He is a little small for his age. He might get trampled and end up behind a lot of people at the FP machines don't you think??? :confused3

You and I might have a hard time with the Cross Country practice every day, but I bet those hot days at Disney would be a whole lot easier to survive!!! :lmao:

I imagine Matt was a sight on the dock like that. Of course I'm sure he was a sight those who had to stay on the ship weren't crazy about!!! He said he had all of his stuff except no room for his Khaki Uniforms, but he won't need those until the fifth week of his class. I hope the ship has made it back into shore by then! :)

He is enjoying his time on the ship so far, but he was looking forward to this class, so he is happy he gets to stay for it! And with Irene appearing to turn towards the east some (at least the last update I heard), riding it out at his apartment shouldn't be too bad either.

Wow! Busy times for all of you! Glad Matt will get to take the class he needs and congrats to Drew!

Good grief, that's a lot going on. Sorry for Matt...although it is kind of a funny story. And good job Drew!

I think Drew would be a food fastpass runner. He could slip between some people who aren't paying attention and get to the front!

I'm glad Matt gets to sit this hurricane out. One that they had a few years ago, Steve had to go out on his ship for. Left Shelly at home with two scared kids and no power. This time he has left her at home with one kid and a crazy dog - he is up here with the other kid.

Looks like you all are going to be pretty busy for quite awhile with Drew.

Glad you had a moment to come up for air Marv.

School started today but luckily Chris drives himself so I just got up with him at 6am to wish him well at his first day of school.

Glad Matt stays on firm ground, even though even the ground has been moving too.

Congrats to Drew for all his sports accomplishments. I think he would be a might fine spry FP runner. He has the speed and agility and I think being a bit smaller makes it easier.

Marv, glad to see you pop in and check in on your TR (although I keep up to date with you via text, email, etc.).

I remember those days fondly of pratices, travel, etc. I have to say I do NOT miss it at all. I guess Drew is done with wrestling and soccer is his love now.

You'll love this. They are doing a fundraising for the high school where Markie coaches and it is a "roast" of Markie.

Where did Marv and the boys have breakfast before heading to Epcot on our final day?

Did Marv arrive at breakfast and wait on the boys, the boys arrive first and wait on Marv, or did we head to breakfast together?

What did Marv see while waiting for an Epcot bus at Jambo House bus stop?

Was Marv in the first five rows at rope drop, between rows 6 to 10, or too far back to count?

What "number" was Matthew reaching the FP machines for Soarin'?

Did we immediately ride Soarin' standby or wait until we could use our FPs later?

What was the second and third set of fastpasses we got?

What did a little boy describe to Crush at Turtle Talk that had everyone in the room sitting in amazement?

Mission Space......Green or Orange?

Just respond to these questions here in super secret white! It will be a few days before I can probably post the update, so everyone has time to come up with the correct answers. :goodvibes

Matt is looking forward to the class for the next five weeks. No problems with Irene and it appears the class will start as scheduled tomorrow. Drew had a soccer tournament this weekend, and his first CC meet is tomorrow......at the exact location he just played three soccer games! :rotfl:

Thanks! Still a busy time. Hope you are recovering from the affects of Irene!

Something to consider next trip! :)

When I still lived and worked in North Carolina I had to stay behind often while the family evacuated the hurricanes. The worst was Hugo when Matt was a baby. We didn't even get any rain at our house, but Ali and Matt weren't quite so lucky at her parent's house that ended up being directly in the path. Fun taking care of an 8 week old with no power in the house! :goodvibes

Thanks Pat! Since Jonathan is taking classes locally this year, he is available to take Drew to school, but only three days of the week.

I guess I need to try this advice since everyone thinks it will work so well.

Actually, soccer has always been Drew's first love, although he has "dabbled" in a number of other sports at times.

I think the "roast" idea is going to be quite the event. Can't wait to hear about it! :thumbsup2

I don't think his high school coaches will be able to make the three hour trip, so I'm goigjn to talk to them and see if they can make a "video" presentation to roast him toa dd to the evening.
