Snow freaks me out

See its all preparation for when you come out here to be my neighbor. LOL. 24 inches is not that much-ive seen it snow more than 50 in 24 hours-and the University of Wyoming didnt even cancel classes. We are more prepared to deal with it here though-and right now our installation commander is a southerner and closes post for not so much snow-we laugh at him and enjoy the day off.
Relax-snuggle up and enjoy it-if your warm inside its pretty harmless :rotfl2:

You know, I never saw a snow blower until a visit to Michigan many years ago. I had no idea what the heck the neighbor was doing. We were going to the car and there is this guy just walking behind this thing and I ask my husband "why is he mowing the snow?" I thought he had some jacked up on wheels push mower:rotfl:

:lmao::lmao::lmao: This gave me a good chuckle, thanks!!!

The first year we moved down here, there was a bad snowstorm at the end of February. There were missing lanes on roadways for WEEKS. Infrastructure here just cannot handle snow. Period.

This is just amazing. If we got two feet of snow today, it would be cleared by Sunday mid-day at the latest--we wouldn't even get a snow day out of the deal.

Tina--isn't there anyone on base or at the Pentagon or where ever that has a teenage boy that lives near you? They are very useful in the snow :lmao:. Seriously, a lot of kids around here earn a lot of money shoveling for people that either can't or don't want to deal with it. I have our lawn guy "on call" to come shovel/plow if we get a huge storm.

I remember one year when I was in high school we got 22" of snow on a Tuesday-started falling during the day-had a snow day on Wednesday, went back to school Thursday only to have more snow fall Thursday for ANOTHER 24"--in the SAME WEEK. That would shut down the east coast until May :lmao:.

We are suppose to get maybe 6 inches of snow that will stop by tomorrow,
I am betting the roads will be clear and fine no later than 3pm.

They already pretreated earlier today with brine and beet juice.

I wonder if those stating how poorly Md handles the snow came from places further north? I've always lived in Md and I don't think they do a bad job at all of snow removal where I live (southern Md). I went to Frostburg, mountain region of far Western Md for those who don't know, and I only ever remember closing once and that was because of pipes bursting from the frozen temps. My son is there now and they pretty much continue on in the snow.

Now, my in-laws in NC, have experienced true shut-downs in just two inches of snow. I'm not sure NC has plows or salt, lol.

I went to Frostburg too!! My DD is now at WVU...

I live in NoVA and I actually think they do a good job clearing the snow. It is going to snow here until tomorrow night. I think the plows will get to my neighborhood by late Sunday. Major roads WILL be cleared though. The one issue though is Metro. The above ground stations won't run if there is 8 inches or more on the tracks. If Metro doesn't run, the Fed will probably close on Monday, even though roads are clear. Too many people rely on Metro (as it should be).

Anyway, I think plow response is great for an area that averages about 20 inches a year (if that). It is so much better than years ago. I remember the storm of 1979 where we got about 20 inches of snow and lots of drifting. Schools were closed the entire week and we didn't get a plow in the neighborhood until about day 5.

I think the roads get cleared fairly well in Maryland. The main problem (reasons for some closings) is all the sidewalks do not get shoveled so people walking, some with walkers, other people in wheelchairs/ECV in the STREET! It is not safe for children to walk to school in the street. It is also tougher for school buses to navigate some of the narrow roads that could not be cleared properly because of the parked cars.

Another problem is idiotic drivers. My husband just left to go to work and some idiot almost hit him running a red light and continue to run the next red light down the street. It is some Maryland drivers that is the problem and not the road crews.

Oh, I am just going to go bake another batch of cookies:rotfl2:

We will work it all off playing in the snow:yay:

I'm so done with winter- I know it's only the beginning of February!! LOL We have about a foot already. :scared1:
