We have just been told that all the schools in our local borough are closing tomorrow because of the threat of snow. I have been off school today because there is a major water leak somewhere round here and the school has no water. Hope they keep us off friday because break up for half term and dont go back until the 20th

I do find it rather hysterical when everything really grinds to a halt here, just because we get a few inches of snow. :confused3 I don't get it :confused3 In countries like Canada they carry on regardless, and its not like we're Soooo unused to snow, like, for instance, Dubai! that we don't know what to do with it.

I agree we don't usually get much snow in the west mids anyway so how can they tell if we are getting heavy snow or not. They forcast it a few weeks ago and we never got a flake!!

our boss has already told us not to risk it if it is bad tomorrow, that is the one good thing about this place, they are very relaxed. I must agree with you though Carol the whole country does grind to a halt ! my colleague just nipped to the local supermarket and there are lots of people panic buying bread and milk - that always cracks me up ! would prefer to stock up on wine personally ...

i'd prefer wine to milk and bread much more fun

.....and much more sensible as alcohol doesn't freeze!

yup - stockpiling is hilarious! a bit like Christmas when the supermarkets close for, oooh, about 24 hours and the nation panics!

I can't believe that the schools are already telling us that will close if it snows tomorrow  I have great memories of playing in the snow with my friends at school - why do my children have to miss out on the fun?

When we had a little bit of snow the other week (I stress....a little bit!) the children in the infants/junior school weren't allowed to play out. In the summer they're not allowed to play out because it's too hot! Er HELLO!!!???? DS can't wait to get to the upper school in September.

I have to laugh at how everyone panics and stays off work when it snows. I used to work 7pm-midnight (or whenever the work was done) in a processing centre for a bank. It was a 15 mile drive away. A few years ago it snowed very heavily one night whilst I was at work and there was no chance of leaving early - if we did customers would not have had their money in their accounts on the day specified for cheque clearing - that was one hell of a scary/weird drive home on the M1 at 1am. Thank God for the bumpy bits )technical term :)) at the side of the motorway - it was the only way I could tell I was still on the road!

I know I've waffled, but my point is.....spare a thought for those who have no choice but to work. Imagine your bank telling you your money's not cleared because it snowed ;)

Anyway...hope the schools stay open tomorrow....if not the children will have to come into work with me....oh the joys :)
