GRR, I have to vent. I have one friend in particular who likes to forward emails to everyone he knows. They are ALWAYS false according to snopes.com. I have sent my friend links to Snopes before but he just doesn't get it! Grrr.....Isn't it easier to check Snopes than to forward an email to everyone in your address book????

For anyone who doesn't know Snopes, check out www.snopes.com

Here's what you do - REPLY ALL with the link to Snopes stating clearly "Yet another false story - you should really check Snopes first."

I'm pretty sure you will be taken off the email list after that embarassment. ;) Worked for me.

HA! That's what I do. REPLY TO ALL with the link to snopes proving it's false.

People get their panties all in a wad over things that aren't true! :sad2:

Yep I do the same, reply all especcially if its something that is way out there. Now i have coworkers asking me to check things out before they send htem...hehehe

I just checked on Snopes about this

It said you did not send a link

In fact it even stated you didn't have any friends so thats a falsehood as well.

Got to love Snopes :lmao:

I'm so with you on this one! My aunt used to send out those things but I finally got her to check snopes first. A while ago I had one friend that kept sending along those stupid chain e-mails. I finally told her that I loved hearing about her kids but asked her (very nicely) to delete me from the address list for the other kind of e-mails. Funny...I never heard from her again. Oh well!

ETA: Love the "reply all" idea. Nothing like a little humiliation to get someone off your back! :rotfl:

I feel your pain. Why don't people check these things out?

How ironic! i just had a near argument with a cousin over this today..I am so tired of the hateful and false emails that appear..Today it was "In God we trust taken off coins" People get all bent out of shape as though God is insulted. Of course it wasn't even true, so i sent her the link to snopes. She was a little disjointed at first but came around..she can take me out of her address book, I welcome it!

My Mom sends me forwarded e-mails all the time. I just delete them and don't say a word to her. But I'm not going to hurt my Mom's feelings ..sometimes I don't even open the e-mails, I know just by the subject line that it is another phoney story. I think my Mom already knows they are fake, but if it makes her happy to send them to me..oh well, she's in her mid-late 70's..I'll just let her keep on sending them as long as she is able to.

Now if my friends send stuff along (like that stupid Microsoft will send you money thing) well that I will let them know is a big bunch of hooey!

This and the people who send every friendship and angel poem --- ack!

HA!! I did this very thing! The girl that sent it to me, sent me a very nasty email in return. Saying I had embarrassed her. :rotfl: I didn't mind talking to her, but I hate that stuff.

Another one is the "send this out to 10 of your friends and see what appears on your screen. I swear it works!" I can't stand those emails.

I just got another one of those "Applebees" emails AGAIN the other day. "Forward this on to at least XX number of people and you'll receive a $25 gift card from Applebees."
Are you people nuts? Applebees is PACKED every night of the week. And it was sent by a person I consider to be very intelligent, and then resent to me by other fairly intelligent people. Finally one of the people who was on the distribution list hit "reply all" and added the Snopes link. Thank you Donna. I usually just delete and mumble to myself what silly people they are but don't take the time to reply and attach a Snopes link. Maybe I will next time.

I have a relative who blindly sends out every email she gets in her inbox. I finally blocked her after I sent her an email showing her to use snopes so that she didn't send out false information. The email I got back from her was full of obscenities about why she doesn't have time to check snopes (but yet she has time to send out 50 emails a day) and the fact that she is doing everyone a SERVICE by getting information out!!! So what if the information is not accurate? It's the RECEIVERS responsibility to check that stuff out! Wasn't she once the receiver??? That was it--put her on my block list and that was it. Nevermore!

I don't enjoy embarassing people. Its easier for me to just hit delete.:confused3

Easy isn't always the right thing to do.
Why allow lies to be spread. sometime lies that encourage behavior that could hurt an innocent party... such as a recent email form mmy BIL sayiing that a chain of gas stations was owned by enemies of the US, when in fact it was an American owned and perated small family chain.

Or the emails after 9/11 that caused fear and panic in many. such as the one about bombings of malls on halloween. My mom swears it had to be true because her boss sent it her, and his wife is from California (where supposedly the email originated from)

My mother still sends everything and says that her friends wouldn't lie to her, that snopes is the urban legend.

With the gas station email my BIL sent out, I sent the snopes page to everyone. His mother replied and thanked me for letting her know about snopes.

I did the same thing with MIL's husband. I never heard from him on a personal note, but got 10 stupid emails a day. The worst part was if we got together he'd say "what did you think of that email about......."

Oh, you mean the one I deleted without reading? :lmao:

I don't do it to embarrass anyone. I do it to spread the TRUTH. There is no need for the 25 people on the "send" list to forward a false email onto to 25 of their friends. I try to stop the stupidness before it gets out of control. :)

Or the ones that warn against sticking your finger in a coin return slot of a public phone or down between theater seats b/c someone could have planted a syringe with HIV tainted blood there? Or the ones about washing the tops of your soda cans with hot water b/c the wareshouses are infested with rats?

Why cause panic?
