Monday April 5
Somewhere in planning our trip, I took leave of my senses.
I had scheduled us to be at Animal Kingdom during Extra Magic Hour.
That would put us as arriving at 7am.
Now then, anyone who knows us, knows that we like our sleep. Early to bed, early to rise, blah, blah, blah. Not for us.
Please keep in mind though, that DH did approve this schedule beforehand.
I had made Priority Seating for us at Donald's Breakfastasaurus for 10am, as a surprise for the kiddies.
The plan was to arrive at 7 for the park opening, do the bigger attractions, eat our breakfast at a leisurely pace, then do a few smaller attractions and leave.
I think we all know by now that my plans never ever go accordingly.
Even though we went to bed reasonably early, around 10:30, nobody but me wanted to get up.
So I re-set the alarm and rolled back in to bed. Instead of waking at 6am, we started getting up around 8:30.
Of course, we still had to hustle to make it to our breakfast seating. The kids didn't know about it, and they weren't happy about hustling.
We made it to Animal Kingdom by 9:30. I grabbed a times schedule and we raced through the Discovery Island area, bypassing the pretty and cute animals and birds.
Neth was happy when I said we had to get to Dinoland, but not so much when he learned we were going to eat. He wanted to go ride Dinosaur right away.
I told them that it was Donald's breakfast and that perked Brenne up!
We checked in and were given a pager. I had hoped the late seating would = not as busy. Not so. People were lined up trying to get in. Glad we had the PS.
Since we were waiting, we had our pic taken. They do this here before the meal.
We sat at a table outside and I gave Brenne a Camp Newspaper to color on.
We were called in to be seated within five minutes.
Debrasaurus was our server and we were seated in the back room, which was basically a tent. Kids thought that was cool. Our server was excellent, by the way.
Got our drinks ordered and the boys went to grab their grub.
While they were gone, Brenne and I ( as well as three other families in the room) got a small taste of the fun to come (sarcasm).
They came back with plates loaded with food. Brenne and I went to get our own.
The restaurant has two buffets set up, hot and cold. We hit the cold buffet first, getting fresh fruit, cereal for Brenne, and a Krispy Kreme doughnut. Next we hit the hot line in the next room. One more room down and we could see the characters making the rounds. Brenne didn't care at that moment, she was eating her doughnut. The girl was hungry!
I loaded a plate with scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, cinnomen french toast, and grabbed an extra plate to divvy it up onto.
Back in our tent, Brenne was ready for her cereal so I ran back to grab her some milk.
Both kids ate really well. Unusual, since usually on vacation she is too excited to eat.
In our tent room, there was a large family gathering of noisy, obnoxious people. They were letting all six children at the table run all over screaming and yelling. More on that later.
One of the CM's came in and performed a few magic tricks. One of the tricks, he ripped open a packet of sugar, poured it into his closed fist, opened his hand and voila! No sugar! The kids were laughing, but DH? Well, the CM said "I can see you are a hard one to impress. Will this do the trick?" He put the empty fist up to Brenne's ear and sugar started pouring out of it!!!! She was having a giggle fit! And of course, I didn't have the camera rolling to catch it all.
We all had a good laugh about that.
By this time, we have been in the restaurant about 35 minutes. The kids are behaving very well.
I can't say the same about the big family reunion in the room.
Donald and friends are in the next room making the rounds, and the reunion kids are going nuts with their screaming. "MICKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY!!!!!!!!!! Mommy it's MICKEEEEEEEYYYYY!!!!! Look a dog!!!!!! WE WANT MICKEY! WE WANT MICKEY!"
Oh my goodness, the noise. And of course the parents and grandparents of these little angels did nothing to calm them, distract them, nothing.
A CM comes into our room, checking on things, seeing how our meals are.
Grandma from the big table goes off on him!
How unfair it is to her little darlings to have the characters walking right outside our room, where her darling kiddies can see them, and they aren't coming in? Why are you torturing the kids? You do realize it is torture for them? Absolutely painful? Look at their faces! Look at them!
This lady, who obviously must have paid for the meal with solid gold bullion, went on and on. Nothing would appease the Grand
Dame.
The CM tried explaining that the characters have to work the rooms on a rotation in order to be fair. FAIR????? IS IT FAIR to have my babies so upset?????
He assured her that our room was next. Next???? They should have been here as soon as we sat down!
I think DH and I both wanted to go duct tape that woman's mouth shut. We felt sorry for the CM
, who was doing everything he could think of to calm her.
What is it with people and that privelaged mentality?
When the characters did come in, of course they went to that table first. The kids absolutely attacked the characters. Hanging on them, climbing on them. Grampa (or maybe he was a hired photographer, his camera was very nice, very professional) had to pose the kids for countless pictures. So of course, they took up most of the time for the character interaction and the rest of us peons in the room were rushed.
Not that it matters much, since the little
angels were still trying to push their way into other people's pictures, pulling and tugging on poor Pluto and Goofy.
Thankfully, finally the Queen and her family left.
We were the last in the room to see the characters, and by that time, they were tired. And moody.
Interaction with Pluto, Goofy and Donald was actually fine, if not brief.
But Mickey?
Mickey actually had an attitude.
Not that we could really blame him, after having his shorts pulled and ears tweaked and hearing his name screamed over and over!
We don't really think the kids noticed........................but we certainly have some memorable video.
Before you think I am being bitter and hateful, stop. DH and I actually found that woman and her family to be somewhat humorous.
We just don't understand what makes a person feel like they are so much better than the others sharing their space.
With that note, I will end our tale.
No, it is not the end of our day. But I am feeling a bit long winded...............
And yes, that is the Snooty Snoot's in the background of the pic, as they pack up to leave. If they are DISer's, than I have no words..............
