Sniff... Our "Leaving WDW" Breakfast

I like to schedule a nice, "memorable" type breakfast for our last morning at Disney.

Last year, it was Chef Mickey's. But DH wasn't impressed w/ the food, the characters seemed rushed, and we were conscious of the need to get back to our cabin at FW to check-out on time. This year, we're eating at Chef Mickey's for our last dinner.

So, this year, I'm trying to decide among the following for our last breakfast:

Grand Floridian Cafe - Every year, I say that we're either going to stay at this resort or, at the very least, eat at this resort, which is why I'm trying to schedule a meal here this year. What is this restaurant like? The atmosphere? The food?

Kona - Last year, we ate at Ohana for dinner, so I've "visited" the Poly which is why I was more interested in another one of the resorts. (I like for us eat at different resorts just for the new experiences.) However, I've read only good things about this restaurant! Is Kona worth a trip back to the Poly over one of my other choices at GF or WL?

1900 Park Fare - If we decide on the GF for our last breakfast, I'm leaning a little more toward this one over the GF Cafe - just because I think I've read that the decor/atmosphere is really nice here. (And I'm also VERY interested in trying the Strawberry Soup!) However, it's a buffet (albeit a really good one), and I don't know if we'll be so tired by our departure morning that we'd more enjoy a less hectic, sit-down meal. Also, I've already got lunch at CRT & breakfast at PSB scheduled, so I'm thinking this may be too many "girly" meals for my DH & DS. In addition, my DD & DS aren't familiar enough w/ Mary Poppins & Alice in Wonderland for this to be a character meal that they would choose on their own, if that makes sense.

Whispering Canyon Cafe - Originally, we were staying at the WL, so I have this one already scheduled. However, I think now we've decided to stay at CBR. Last year, we ate at Boma at the AKL, but we've never been to WL. I know that WCC gets rave reviews, but I don't know if, for our last morning, we'd enjoy a quieter meal.

Right now, I'm leaning toward the GF Cafe, but am I giving up a better meal at 1900 Park Fare or WWC at the WL? Again, what is the atmosphere like at GF Cafe. In my mind, the perfect "last" breakfast would be in lovely, sunny setting w/ good food & a nice, contemplative cup of coffee.

After breakfast, we would be going back into the MK for "one last time". So, if we ate at WCC, we could ride the boat over, and, if we at the GF Cafe, 1900 Park Fare, or Kona, we could ride the monorail over...

Opinions & suggestions welcome!

Thanks so much!! :)

EDITED TO ADD - - If it makes any difference, following are our other current ADR's:

* Donald's Breakfastasaurus (if the MGM character breakfast doesn't happen)
* PSB

* CRT lunch
* Crystal Palace lunch
* Garden Grill lunch

* Chef Mickey's dinner
* LTT dinner
* Mama Melrose's FDP
* San Angel Inn dinner (for DH - Father's Day)

This isn't one of your choices, but I see you are staying in a FW cabin, and I want to suggest trying the Trails End for breakfast. When we stayed in a cabin a few years back, we ate all of our breakfasts in our cabin with the exception of our last breakfast at the Trails End. Had we known how AWESOME it was (and inexpensive too!) we'd have eaten there earlier in the week and probably more than once!

Just a suggestion!!

If you decide that what you really want that morning is a quiet sit down breakfast with great food and good service, I can recommend Olivia's at Old Key West. I don't think you'd really need an ADR there. If you can't decide ahead of time which kind of breakfast you'd like that morning, go ahead and make an ADR for 1900 Park Fare, then if you decide against it, you could cancel it and go to Olivia's last minute instead.

How about a Character Breakfast? You can have breakfast with Lilo & Stitch at O'Hanas at the Polynesian...given the age of your children, it would probably be a big hit!

Any of your choices sound good- I like 1900 Park Fare and 'Ohana for b'fast best.

We did CM last October as our "last breakfast"- we avoided the whole issue of feeling rushed by checking out of the hotel before we had breakfast. You could just leave your bags with the front desk (or go ahead and put them in the car, if you are driving).

We did that when we left earlier this month. It was our last chance to say goodbye to ::MickeyMo before we got back in the minivan for the ride home. Our family really enjoyed seeing the characters before we hit the road.

Thanks so much, everyone, for the quick replies!!

Isn't it hard making all these restaurant decisions?! :teeth: So many wonderful choices & not enough days!

I think I've decided against 1900 Park Fare - One, it's a buffet, and I think I want something less hectic, if that makes sense. Two, I looked at pics of this restaurant on Allears.net, and it looked a little "dark" - of course, I don't have the best computer, so this could just be my computer. While DH would enjoy the made-to-order omelets, I don't think he would enjoy the characters so much. He just really wasn't happy w/ Chef Mickey's last year at all (because of the buffet & the rushed characters), so I'm trying to find a restaurant that he'll really like for our last morning. I was okay w/ Chef Mickey's because I thought it was a nice "ending" (so-so food aside), so I'm looking for something like that - a nice, traditional, Disney-vacation wrap-up!

I looked at pics of GF Cafe, and it looked so pretty. But, I noticed that no one was recommending it. (And maybe I keep going back to the GF Cafe because I've always wanted to eat at the GF! :teeth: )

Is Kona a "pretty" restaurant?

Honestly, I think DH & the kids would probably like WCC more - DH for the food & the kids for the fun atmosphere. But, there's something about the GF Cafe... I see myself sitting there by a window on our last morning, quietly sipping my coffee, while we eat our last Mickey waffles; the sun gently pouring in the windows, as the four of us chat about our trip...

I thought about the character breakfast at Ohana, but the kids don't like Stitch. And, we're already doing 6 character meals.

Last year, we stayed in a FW cabin, & we did have breakfast one morning at Trail's End. And, yes, it was really nice - quiet, relaxed, plentiful buffet items, reasonable prices. I would definitely recommend it! But, since we ate there last year, I'm looking for something new-to-us & more "special".

I thought about Cape May, and Olivia's sounds good too. However, I want something close to MK for our last morning.

And, yes, I think it would be better (& we'd feel less hurried) if we went ahead & checked out before breakfast. ::yes::

So, right now, I'm trying to decide among the following:

GF Cafe
Kona
WCC (I've currently got an ADR here)

Any more suggestions/opinions? (And thanks for listening to me ramble!)

Between those 3, I'd pick Kona - it's a really good breakfast. I don't have any personal experience with GF Cafe, so you might like it just as much, but Kona does have the pressed pot coffee to recommend it if you're a coffee lover.

The prettiest restuarant with the most windows would be the GF cafe. It is surrounded by windows. We ate there in January and both had the vanilla french toast - so yummy.

1900 Park Faire isn't exactly dark, but it has no windows at all, as it is in the middle of the building. I think the character interaction there is very good and not rushed. The food is VERY good IMHO.

Kona is not an ambience restuarant. The food is good, but the surroundings are nothing special. They have specialty coffee which could be a plus.

WCC is probably the most "disney" of your choices. Its fun, loud, busy, and has good food.

For a last day meal I think I would choose WCC because I would want a "fun fix" before I left the WDW. But from your posts I'd say GF cafe is what you are looking for.

I would pick the Kona, just because I love their breakfast. Last time we were there they had added Pineapple Macadamia Pancakes to the menu....delicious! Its not really a place for atmosphere besides the lobby of the Polynesian itself. Good coffee though, possibly one of the only places in WDW where you can get good coffee.

Our one experience at 1900 Park Fare (dinner several years ago) was not a good one. Our server was virtually non-existant (though its a buffet the server is necessary for drinks and to get the check....we ended up losing enight time because it took so long to get and process our check) and we found the place to be very, very noisy. Its just a huge room.

The GF cafe sounds quite pretty...but personally I'd go and have tea during the week instead of having a parting breakfast at the GF.

And our favorite parting meal....The Plaza in the MK. Sandwiches and sundaes for lunch! Great atmosphere and they make the most delicious club sandwich.

Its sounds like you already know you really want to eat at the GF but just looking for someone to tell you that it is a good choice. I have not eaten there but if you have read about it and checked out the menu and can picture yourself sitting there having coffee....then I say just go there and give it a try. It's probably exactly what you are looking for....Enjoy!

Kona is my favorite restaurant for the FOOD...but not for atmosphere. If you're looking for a last Disney-fix a window seat at O'Hana might be a good choice. You can't beat the view! WCC also would have a lot of Disney "fun." If you like AKL, the breakfast buffet at Boma is excellent. Afterwards, you can have one last look at the animals before departing for home.

I don't want to discourage you, but we ate breakfast at GF Cafe (because I wanted to eat at GF just like you) and it just wasn't very impressive. It was okay, but just okay. I would recommend the WCC as the food is great and it's a lot of fun.

Our last meal at WDW is always at WCC. We love it there, and the food is really good too.

My first pick would be Kona it has the best food foe breakfast. But we have eaten at GF Cafe for 2 departure breakfasts & it is beautiful we have had good service-Very sunny place. But hands down for the food Kona.

We ate at WCC on our last morning, October 8. Food was good, atmosphere was fun, and our server, "Hickory" did her very best to cheer us up on the sad occasion of leaving.

Our tradition on our last day has always been to grab a donut for breakfast and go to MGM to shop, see the street performers and get the very first lunch seating at prime time 50`s cafe! I love the setting and the interaction with the servers!
hth! leaving the world is so sad as it is, I need the laughter of that place!
