Sneaky Fastpass ~ slightly unethical question

Okay.. don't flame me, this is just a hypothetical question.

Originally I booked room only for 10 nights and bought 7 day park hopper +'s

Then when the fairy tale package came out I booked that which gave me Ultimate Park Hoppers for one week... then room only for 3 nights but I still have my 7 day park hopper +'s/

Okay here is the question... The week I am using my Fairytale package UPH's and getting fast passes... what happens if I stick my Park hopper in a fast pass machine... will it give me a ticket?

I don't mean at the gate - to use a day... I just mean in the FP machine.

Anyone know?

Only tickets that have been used for entry on any given day can be used in the FastPass machines on that day. So whichever ticket you use to get in is the only ticket that will work in the FP machine.

When FP first began anything with a magnetic strip would work...credit cards, Universal tickets, ATM cards, WDW resort room keys with no tickets coded on them, old tickets that had been used up, old room keys from stays years before...you name it. People were able to get many, many FPs at once so the powers that be had to change the system.

When I was there in May, we were waiting just inside the gate at MGM for the rest of our party to arrive. My BIL was with us, but his family hadn't arrived at the park yet, and he had the passes, so he went to TOT and RNR and got fast passes with his families park hopper passes. The FP machine did allow him to get passes even though they hadn't been used for entry into the park yet. When he came back to the turnstiles where his family met him to get their passes and they tried to put them through to gain entrance, they were rejected. The CM told them they had already been used that day and couldn't be used to get in. He must have thought that they were trying to get more people in on the same passes. When my BIL told him what he had done, he got a stern lecture (which he deserved) and was told to never do that again. I am afraid if you use your park hopper passes, they will use up a day of park entrance for you. Maybe it has changed since then and you can't get FP if it hasn't been used for your entrance. It almost cost him alot more money than it was worth, if he had to pay for the rest of his family to get in!!

Oh well... serves me right  for thinking about ways to get ahead at Disney :)

I figured they would have all their basis covered.

Thanx for the info every one

I don't understand if your BIL has park hoppers why he couldn't get in, I mean you could have hopped in and out of the Park already? I also don't see that he did anything "wrong". People always talk about taking all the passes and running ahead for FastPasses, isn't that what he did?

So does that mean I can't get Fastpasses with my parents UPH? They won't go on any rides anyway, I was planning on taking their passes to the parks when they went to the pool. Basically they buy passes and pretty much ride nothing, so I do NOT feel guilty about getting extra fastpasses. Disney makes out like bandits when they visit, they come along to pay for kid's souveniers and to eat.

We got fastpasses using all of our tickets, even though my youngest 2 didnt always want to ride some of the faster/scarier rides. So my husband and son sometimes did get an extra ride. Maybe thats considered cheating, but I dont really think so, because we did always ask them if they wanted to ride first, and if they didnt, then at least the tickets did get used. Some of the time, we did give them away to others waiting to ride.

It is definitely possible (and okay IMO) to get FastPasses with any tickets you have. Then if some don't want to ride you can use their FPs. The original poster was asking about using a pass that hadn't been used for park entry that day. The FP machine will read the pass and see that it is not active and will not issue a FP for that ticket.

Ok, so you are saying - your BIL was inside the park - with everyone's passes. And, he then used those passes...before they were swiped in as "entering"...to get FP's....and he got them.

Yep, I'd say that would mess something up in computer land.

It's likely a double default setting. If you don't pass thru the gate, but you show up later and swipe at a FP, they assume you are "in the door" and count you as entered, just to ensure you didn't "walk thru" at some unprotected gate...or piggy back on someone ahead of you...or what ever.

Gate first, FP second...seems logical.

This does not sound right (or is a recent addition) In November, my DD's pass did not scan (I don't know why and it's an AP so it really made no difference to me) and I could not get any FPs issued on it untill I went to guest relations to get it scanned.

I would be worried about possibly using a day on the hoppers when in fact you are using UPH's. The price of entry is high enough w/o that happening to you!

I read a trip report recently where the person said they used an expired fast pass the following day! Is it really possible to use an expired fast pass??

OK I understand now - I must have been tired last night! I can use their UPH's for fastpasses when they are in the park with us but not if they are back in the resort.

Expired Fastpass -- I guess the CM wasn't either paying attention or decided to be nice and let it slide.

Doryfan - What you're doing isn't cheating at all. If you have four people in the park, you're entitled to get four fastpasses at a time. How you choose to use them, though - everybody at once, two people twice, or one person four times- is entirely up to you, IMHO.

This was the case with us in April as well. We are AP holders and the machine we chose to enter MK was not registering AP's. The CM just passed us through but evidently the machine did not activate the AP for the day and none of our AP's would work on the FP machines. We had to return to get them activated, next time I will choose another line!!

I would say that a pass has to be used as admission media that day in order to gain a fp. I definately would not take a chance on an unused park hopper and have it "activate" though.

You can use an expired fast pass any time during your trip if the ride is not operational during your FP return time. That's the only exception I am aware of .

Yes - we just did that in July at the HM. Just as we walked up to use our FP, they went down with no ETA. We used our pass several hours later without a problem.

I thought the Park Hopper Passes allowed you UNLIMITED Enrty and Re-entry to all the parks in one day?

I'm confused?

Yes, we have used expired fast passes at TT when it broke down. The writer was talking about using expired fast passes for convience, etc. She was not talking about down rides/expired fastpasses. I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this? Maybe she was just lucky?!

Esmerelda, you're correct, but if you've already used your hopper that day you need a hand stamp to get in to another park (or return to the same park).

As far as the expired FP goes, if they were there during the time of the FP just a day later, I can see how this might have happend. I don't think the CM's look that closely at the date, just the time.
