Does anyone have any idea for a good walking sneaker that my mom, who is 78y.o. can wear as she walks the beach all summer long? She lives on an Island in Maine all summer and every morning she walks the beach. She has not been able to find a good "walking" sneak that she can get wet and have it dry for the following morn's walk. She did buy those fancy waterproof sneaks from Lands End last summer and you do not wear a sock with it. Well after one WALK down the beach, waves coming in and out and she getting her sneaks all wet (no problem with that) BUT by the time she got back to her cottage the sand that had gotten into the waterproof sneaker proceed to RIP to shreds her heels. As she walked and her heels would go up and down inside the sneak the sand DID A JOB! They were bleeding horribly. THOSE SNEAKS WERE IMMEDIATELY RETURNED! :sad2:

Any ideas would be appreciated!!! THANK YOU! :wave2:

Is she going to wear socks with them to protect her heals? I got something similar to the lands end sneak at Walmart that works well for next to nothing, she might try looking there and then wearing socks, even a thin pair. Or what about some of those "water shoes", just get a size large enough to wear some socks with. They will dry out in fresh air. Most any of those shoes might rub if you don't have on socks when you first get them unless you are incredibly lucky.
Good luck. How fortunate that she is able to do these type of things. What a blessing. :)

THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS! She got the Lands End ones and as the picture in the catalog showed NO NEED FOR SOCKS, sort of like a water slipper with sneaker support. And man, that was pretty nasty her heel and took some time to completely heal. Lands End apologized about the incident and she sent them back and they immediately issued her a credit. They really were an attractive looking sneaker except it just did not work out.

I will check out Wal-Mart for sure. And yes, she can easily wear a sock, no problem. She just wanted to make sure the sneak was dry the next morn for her daily walk. :thumbsup2

I don't own any, but what about Crocs? Also does she need to wear shoes? I'm no expert when it comes to sand, but I find walking in sand difficult with shoes. Much easier if bare-footed. Although, personally, I couldn't tolerate a wet shoe.

She has to walk down a main paved street on the Island to get to the water. Her cottage is not directly on the ocean. Once she gets there she walks up and down the beach (which is quite long) getting in her 3 miles every morn.

You know that CROC idea sounds pretty good as well. As far as bare-footed, she is in Tampa until May 1st when she flies to the Island until Oct. It is just too cold still for bare-feet for her on the Island. And she is out there by 7AM!

In FLA., she spends her walking time all day every day on the Golf Course hence no need for the beach walking shoes down there. She only plays golf maybe once a week in Maine.
