snake with a hand?

Warna' Brotha'! ( ;)Get it? Play on "Warner Brothers")

Can you maybe copy the article instead? That picture is gonna give me nightmares, I couldn't read the article!

sorry. here is the article minus the picture:

An elderly Chinese woman who discovered a snake with a clawed hand protruding from its body was so scared she beat it to death, according to reports.

Xiu Qiong Duan, 68, told the SINA Beijing news agency she woke up in the middle of the night to find the snake clinging to the wall of her bedroom.

"I woke up and heard a strange scratching sound ... at first I thought it was thieves" she said.

"I turned on the light and saw this monster working its way along the wall using his claw."

Ms Duan, from Suining in southwest China, said she then grabbed a shoe and beat the snake to death.

She reportedly preserved its body in a bottle of alcohol which she gave to the Life Sciences Department at China's West Normal University in Nanchang.

Snake expert Long Shuai said the discovery of the creature, which is 40cm long and the thickness of a little finger, was "truly shocking".

"We won't know the cause until we've conducted an autopsy," she said.

I read that yesterday. I thought it was interesting. Too bad the woman killed it... But I guess it might not of survived long in the wild anyway. The one I read also mentioned that a more common abnormality in snakes is having two heads, and they don't last that long in the wild because the heads attack each other...

evolution.

its very impressive that not only was the snake born with a hand, it can use it. the snake was "clinging" to the wall of her bedroom.

many times animals with extra appendages never learn to utilize them. this one did.

Oh how bizarre. That almost doesn't look real. I kinda feel bad for the snake that the old lady killed it.

i really am very put out by the ignorance of those who slaughtered the snake though. i mean really. it has a freaking hand. you don't think that would be useful to scientists?

i not that weird. it looks like the hand is not even attached to the snake

It's not ignorance. I can't say I blame the lady. I have a TREMENDOUS! fear of snakes. If I wake up in the middle of the night to find some mutant snake climbing my walls, you betcha I'd punch first and ask questions later. Seriously, this thing hasn't been seen before, how do I know it's not venomous and can and will fight back? It's not like she killed it and then burned it's remains, she killed it and then preserved it to give it to the scientists. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't they still be able to examine it's DNA?

Totally agree with Sonya,

I mean if I saw a snake with a HAND clinging to my wall in the middle of the night i'd damn sure grab the closest thing to me and beat it.

I wouldn't try to catch it or anything, putting myself in danger.

Wow that's totally creepy.

I thought that was really interesting too! Kinda cool!

ITA!
My first thought seeing that in the middle of the night would NOT be to catch it alive and send it to the science lab! I thought that was really good of her to at least preserve the remains for them! I don't even know if I'd think of doing that!

I agree with you two, I'd whack it with whatever was next to me... or run away screaming lol :]
The LAST thing on my mind would be how the snake would be helpful research. I'd be too busy whacking and screaming.

examining its dna is nothing compared to being able to observe and or breed the snake.

I just got shivers looking at that picture and the woman's story. I agree with other posters, I would either run away or beat it with the first thing I saw. It looks like it's straight out of a bad horror movie!

Then wouldn't they be able to clone the DNA and study that copy?
