A large python got out of his aquarium enclosure during the night and strangled a two year old girl. When the owner entered the child's room this morning, it was wrapped around the baby. The owner stabbed the snake and got it to release the child, but it was too late.

The owner faces possible charges because he did not have a permit to own the snake. Florida requires a permit to own a python or a boa constrictor.

What a tragic event. I just don't understand why people want to own these big snakes. It's not like they are a real affectionate pet. What a mess.

That is terrible! I don't know why someone would own a snake like that.
It just makes no sense to me.

Do you have a link to this story? I'd love to send it to my brother who has one of these beasts.

I don't know why anyone would own a snake, period. I don't even know why snakes are necessary creatures on this earth. They are ugly, nasty, and scary.

Can you sense my hatred on snakes yet? ;) I'm terrified of them.

Because they're beautiful and exotic. Why own a painting? Or collect antiques?

That being said, yes it's terrible, but no more terrible than the poor baby being mauled by a pit-bull or kicked by a horse, and those types of deaths are much more common.

Did you hear the 911 call. Horrific.

They have both the python and an unlicensed boa.

What is wrong with people?

OMG, that's horrible... kids my kids ages... makes me sick :sad1::sad1::sad1:

Yikes! I'm not too fond of snakes. Never would get one for a pet!!

Oh..when I referred to the 'kids my kids ages'.. I read the link from the python page about the 15month old who drowned in the blowup pool :( Both stories so heartbreaking...

I won't even attempt to listen to the call.... :sad1::sad1:

because paintings don't get hungry, succumb to natural urges, then try to eat you.

According to a snake expert from Gatorland, the only thing a python cares about is finding something to eat. It will do everything possible to escape its enclosure to search for food. He said that they are incredibly strong and, in his opinion, should never be kept as a pet.

The guy who owned the snake no longer thinks it was a good idea. Too bad it's to late for the baby.
