Snake in Resort Room?

ACK! I have only read a few pages of this thread and my heart is racing like mad! I am about two posts from hyperventilating...:faint:

I have been frantically looking for the original thread on the snake at the Contemporary, but I can't find it. HELP! Can anyone find it?

I feel like I need to forge through it, get sick and get over it!

Well, now that I opened this thread I will definitely be checking in May under everyone's beds every night... and in the bathroom, under the curtains, etc.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! I can take insects, bees, creepy-crawlies but not a snake!

, I can see you now.....bed number 1 - Check, no snake all clear, bed number 2 check, no snake, and so on, LOL, by the way, what will you do if you happen upon one?:scared1:

:rotfl2:

:scared1: YIKES!!!
Cottonmouths, moccasins, and critters oh my !:scared1:

Well I'll be staying at CBR from July 8th-13th I will definately keep my eyes open and hopefully all I will have to report to my fellow Disers is the wonderful time I had with my DD:goodvibes

O.K., I read the whole 23 pages. I am not especially frightened by wildlife. I've lived in Texas for 45 years, and we have most of the same critters as the Floridians do...but having them inside the room does change things somewhat. It happens, I'm sure, but it's certainly not commonplace.

Last year, my DW saw a snake slither across a walkway in the Ranchos section of CSR (snakes in the "desert"?...go figure). It was at night, as we were returning to our room from the quiet pool...in flip flops, of course! I would just suggest sticking to the walkways (always!) and being a bit more wary at night. Of course, we also saw rabbits on several mornings. Lots of frogs that cling to the walls (our Texas frogs don't seem to do this trick). The same night my wife saw the snake, I saw a BIG raccoon walking along the outdoor corridor of one of the CSR buildings. Honestly, I'd rather meet the snake than surprise a raccoon as big as that one. And of course, CSR has a rather large gator in the lake (and at least one smaller relative). He's not scary, and I've never heard of anyone meeting him out of the water. Like others have said, it is Florida, and you are in a fairly swampy area with plenty of water. Just use common sense, stick to the "human" areas, and don't worry too much about it. The wildlife is not looking for a confrontation with you. And I'm not making light of the fact that the youngster was bitten last year; that is a terrible thing to happen, and I'm glad things turned out O.K. for him. It should serve as a caution for anyone visiting Florida, but it shouldn't stop us from visiting.

:rotfl:I have only ever seen a snake at OKW...............the first time we were sitting in the hot tub (South Point Pool) and a large black snake slithered out from under the bushes and across the path! Thankfully not joining us in the tub! :lmao:

The second time was at OKW, same pool, lying on lounger dozing when son who was in the pool yelled 'SNAKE!' and pointed behind my head where a large black snake was slithering across the top of the bush!!!! Inches from my head!!!!!! :scared1:

Have no problem with lizards, bunnies, ducks, turtles, gators or racoons.....

OK..I am not afraid of snakes. I like them in fact. And lizards and frogs. BUT I read this and kept imagining that there was a snake in my bed. AND I have never done the snake check under the bed, but I will now.

I have seen two snakes at Disney. The first one was about 12 inches and it was just outside of the doors that you go into to AK to see the bats. I told a CM and she said it is worm probably...and then three other people told her and she checked it out. Someone had already killed it by then.

Last year, we were at POFQ and we had a room right around the corner from the boat launch. We were headed to the boat to enjoy an evening at DTD (in flip flops) and a tiny snake slithered in front of us.

WHY do I always check this thread? I really never thought about it much. Now, we are returning 2x this year and I know I will see one because I will be on snake patrol - I am terrified - if you see a tall blond woman screaming and running around - it's me - completely ridiculous!

Anyway, when I read about everyone checking under the beds, I think - remember to pack the flash light - right!?! I don't know if I can really look, I may have to have DH do it and he will make fun of me - too bad. I'm just trying to remind myself that the big black ones are the 'good' snakes (as if that can be said)

We are staying at POR for 3 nights the end of this month - tons of snake stories about that place, can't wait. Still won't keep me away from my favorite place in the world!

Yup I checked this thread again for new info.....don't ask me why...can't stop. All I need now is one of those lights that miners use, you know the one that you strap on to your forehead:rotfl2: We live in the city in NY and my crazy DD is actually hoping to see some sort of wildlife:scared1:

I had a lizard invite himself in my room at the Carribean as my 5 year old held the door open so I could get my scooter in. I was NOT SLEEPING in the room until that lizard was gone, and of course when I called Mousekeeping they laughed at me! I explained that we do not have lizards in NY and they laughed again! It took me over 2 hours to find that little lizard and get him out of my room.

YES..... I KNOW HE WAS A LITTLE LIZARD, but he does have to poop and pee somewhere and I would choose for it not to be in hair or on my pillow while I was sleeping! I'm just sayin.......:rotfl:

OK-not scared of snakes but sleeping with one ain't what I would want to do.

However, there was a frog stuck on the wall as I walked down the hallway to my room at POFQ last year. My DH wouldn't let me get off the walkway and walk ALL the way around like I wanted to do...I will literally walk all the way around a resort to get away from a frog-even if it means walking all the way around SSR or CSR, and that's a lot of walkin' folks...

ribbit:lmao: (just kidding)

I've been to WDW nearly 30 times, and have yet to ever personally see a snake, but my uncle absolutely will not stay at AKL anymore because he had a fairly large black snake crawl across his foot in one of the animal viewing areas next to a rock. He didn't even realize it was there until a CM came up behind him and told him to be very very still. The CM told him that they're pretty common there. They just pick them up and move them back out into the "savannah."

Please tell me you are kidding about AKL! I leave in a few weeks for there and we have a SV room. I will never sleep now. Maybe I should change resorts. That is a true horror to me. :scared1::eek:

My dad was a WDW cast member in the 70's. He worked in Maintenance. One of his favorite stories to tell is of a woman who "streaked" the beach at the Contemporary! She was in one of the garden wing rooms, ground floor and was apparently changing clothes or getting ready to take a shower when she spotted a snake in the room. Well, she ran out of the room nude and streaked the beach, screaming! ROFL! Several cast members chased her down with towels to cover her. I don't know what ever happened to the snake.

My dad also said that when ever they had to replace the air conditioner filters at the Poly (which were in the ceiling), it was common to find snake skins.

This is HILARIOUS...I laughed until I cried. I can just imagine...what an interesting day to be at the Contempo! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

We saw a snake at one of the viewing areas at AKL last May. My poor son turned completely white and started screaming. Of course this was after we moved from CBR to AKL because he had just been bitten by a water moccasin at CBR. Poor kid.

Didn't they tell him ahead of time to watch everywhere for wildlife!!! After all, it is the "Animal" Kingdom Lodge. We are but mere visitors in their lodge.

Snakes are the one and only animal I can not tolerate. Great now I will have to have an extra pair of underwear with me at all times on our next trip

OMG - your poor son. DH and I are deathly afraid of snakes and have been unlucky enough to see three in our trips to Disney. After the story of your son I'm even more cautious about watching where I walk and touch.
