O.K., I read the whole 23 pages. I am not especially frightened by wildlife. I've lived in Texas for 45 years, and we have most of the same critters as the Floridians do...but having them inside the room does change things somewhat. It happens, I'm sure, but it's certainly not commonplace.
Last year, my DW saw a snake slither across a walkway in the Ranchos section of CSR (snakes in the "desert"?...go figure). It was at night, as we were returning to our room from the quiet pool...in flip flops, of course! I would just suggest sticking to the walkways (always!) and being a bit more wary at night. Of course, we also saw rabbits on several mornings. Lots of frogs that cling to the walls (our Texas frogs don't seem to do this trick). The same night my wife saw the snake, I saw a BIG raccoon walking along the outdoor corridor of one of the CSR buildings. Honestly, I'd rather meet the snake than surprise a raccoon as big as that one. And of course, CSR has a rather large gator in the lake (and at least one smaller relative). He's not scary, and I've never heard of anyone meeting him out of the water. Like others have said, it is Florida, and you are in a fairly swampy area with plenty of water. Just use common sense, stick to the "human" areas, and don't worry too much about it. The wildlife is not looking for a confrontation with you. And I'm not making light of the fact that the youngster was bitten last year; that is a terrible thing to happen, and I'm glad things turned out O.K. for him. It should serve as a caution for anyone visiting Florida, but it shouldn't stop us from visiting.
