Snake in Resort Room?

mickey family-- sorry to hear about your son-- we stayed @ CBR in 2007-- if I wouldhave seen one-- I would have gone :scared1: both of my kids walk through or were in the "landscaping"-

I hope that I don't see next time- I will be sure to tell my kids to stay AWAY from the landscaping!

Now, I don't think I have a real phobia of snakes.....it's just that here in Maine, you may have a foot long or a little longer garden snake, but that's about it!!! I can't imagine having one ending up in your room!!!! And that one in the Contemporary??? She had a nest of eggs??? How long was that one there for? Didn't Mousekeeping ever vacuum or clean the windows to notice it????

That's what I was thinking too.....and it was on the 4th floor.

I always wondered how the snake got on the 4th floor without someone seeing it. Maybe the snake on the 4th floor didn't climb or slither up there. Maybe is was a stow away on the housekeepers cart or someone's beach bag from the pool area. I don't know, that may be worse than it crawling up the stairs.

Snakes and gators in florida are the norm. I grew up in Cooper City FL. and giant frogs were also the norm.

hahah, when I went to wdw we wne to the water park. while waiting in line everyone started FREAKING out. my family and I didn't know what it is what so we moved in closer trying to get a better look. meanwhile, trying not to get stepped on by all the frightened people, we hear "snake" . I don't think my family and I ever laughed so hard! It was just a baby.

Plus, we all live on the river in canada, we're used to snakes and not scared AT ALL. however, you put a spider near one of us, and that could end your life. hahaa.

anywho, it was a good day, my sister and I went looking for it afterwords. once people calmded down a bit.

I don't think this is something to really worry about. I think you have more of a chance of getting in a car wreck than having a snake in your room. If you look at how many members there probably are on the Dis boards and really look at how many of these posts were from people actually seeing a snake up close, it is a very small number. I don't like snakes as much as the next person, but I will just use common sense and stay out of the landscaping, but I am going to go and have a great time! I will not cancel my vacation because of a few posts considering there could be something anywhere you may go on vacation!

^^^ I agree.

While I love snakes, I would not be happy to see one in my room. But I will also not cower in fear of maybe seeing one.

Gators do not even bother me. I actually hope to see a few (from a respectable distance) when I go in September.

So ture mckh, as one who had a snake in my room last year it has not stop me from going again, I had not plan on stay at POP again, as I want to stay at every resort before I join Walt, I rebook POP to give them a 2nd chance, just had my TA request a king bed, and no snake's :lmao:

Took 16 trips to see my first snake, and it had to be in my room :confused3
Just hope it will 16 more trips before I see my 2nd snake.

Being from southern Louisiana which has basically the same climate and land type (swampy) as WDW (it is built on swamp) I am surprised that snakes are NOT more of a problem as they are. Although I have to say a snake in a room on the 4th floor of the Contemporary is a little surprising! The thing is with all of the water around the WDW property I would say a rather large percentage of the snakes are probably water mocassins which are bad dudes! So be careful! And don't let your kids or adults play in the lakes! There is a reason they have signs that say No Swimming!

We have mocassins, cotton mouths, rattlers and black snakes in Oklahoma as well. Along with scorpions and tarantulas.

They like to hide in the rocks at Blizzard Beach! The one I saw was huge and black.. The woman behind me said "its not dangerous cause its a black snake" ----whatever that means?!:scared:

Black snakes aren't poisonous. We see them quite often in the trees here...looking for bird eggs.

We saw our first snake at CBR 2 weeks ago. It came out of the mulch after a rainstorm right near our room. DD spotted it as we were leaving one evening. She slammed the door very quickly. I think it was a smallish black snake, but honestly - I did not look close. We were very careful to watch where we were walking after that. There were also a lot of little frogs out after that rain too.

At first I was going to agree with the person who posted that we'd be more likely to get in a car wreck than see a snake....yes, there are lots of creepy-crawlies in florida but most of them you never see...it is the deep south after all and thats the price you pay for the great weather...plus we humans are making their territory smaller and smaller as we keep building, etc. That is why its becoming more and more of a problem with snakes and alligators and such. I lived an hour east of disney for 30 years and can honestly say the odds of seeing a snake are pretty low...I saw a water moccasin once and a black snake in passing maybe once or twice. And that was in thirty years. Here in GA I came across a copperhead once but luckily was on a four wheeler which gives off alot of heat which must have confused him since he didnt strike me (he was right next to my foot!!!!). We were trying to find an old still site that we had found once back in the deep, deep woods...never found it again but thats probably because I didnt go looking after seeing that copperhead so close up!!!

That being said, on the other hand, I'd like for the disney parks to be as uncrowded as possible when I'm there, so forget what I just said and EVERYONE CANCEL THEIR TRIP! I WILL RIDE THE RIDES FOR YOU WITH PLEASURE! STAY HOME AND AVOID THE SNAKES! DO NOT GO TO DISNEY!!!! :rotfl:

When I first moved to the mountains here in Georgia I was petrified of scorpions. Thought you would DIE if they bit you. But apparently the ones up here are not deadly at all unless you have some sort of allergy to them. I know lots of folks who have gotten bit and say its like a bee sting...my dad got bit on his bald head once when one fell onto him while he slept. Some other folks kept having issues with them coming thru in the light switches and a lady I worked with kept getting bit in bed. One of them, who lived way in the boonies, got free range chickens and put them in her yard and never had a problem again. The other folks finally found a bug spray that would kill scorpions and once they sprayed regularly had no further problems(same with my dad). Judging from your post, I guess anywhere in the USA but the northern states where it gets really cold is going to have a problem with creepy crawlies.

Oh funny story (well, funny to me). I worked with a girl in Tampa who came down from new jersey to live in Florida....one day we heard her scream bloody murder in the bathroom. She kept saying, "no one told me you had roaches as big as cats here!!!!!" (palmetto bugs) hee hee....(oh and dont panic...they arent REALLY as big as cats....)

'Course I cant really say anything.....I wont get into the ocean at all because I am deathly afraid of being mauled by a shark....

Last random thought...I promise....my dad used to say not to kill black snakes because they kept the rattlesnakes away. Does anyone know if this is really true? Do black snakes and rattlesnakes really not co-exist? If that is the case I will be more than happy to pass a black snake on the path (not in the bed, though!) because that would mean there are no venemous snakes around!

I've heard about the black snakes keep others away also. Don't know if that is true but we have had a black snake that lives in my yard for years and I haven't bothered it because of that. If and when I see him/her I go away.

My family and I saw a snake this visit while watching IllumiNations from the bridge as you walk to the Boardwalk. It was just slithering around on the sidewalk by the water under us. None in our room, thank God about that :)

Add me to the long list of people who should NOT have read this thread but couldn't stay away. :sad1:

I'm so freaked out by snakes - big, small, venomous or not - that I can't look on them on TV, in books or in glass displays at the zoo. I think if DD actually touched a snake I'd have to sell he because I'd be so worried about her snake-juice hands pawing all over me.

If we see a snake while at WDW I'm worried it could ruin our whole day, if not the whole trip. I'd scream and freak out so badly it would definitely scare DD for a long time. People have said to search your room first but I don't want to do that because WHAT IF I FIND ONE. Even seeing a snake makes me want to throw up or take a shower and wash off all the airborne snake germs I could feel all over myself.

Seriously, I'm not as big of a weirdo as I'm making myself sound. I just can't stop thinking of all the horrible possible snake encounters! I planned to wear flip-flops but now I'm thinking of a snake going over my bare feet. <<<shiver>>> The panic alone could probably kill me.

Back in 07 we were at SOG and my nephew was on our porch and noticed a girl stopping dead in her tracks at night in the middle of the sidewalk. When he moved to look he noticed a very large water moccasin in the sidewalk. Needless to say it did NOT take long for him to come back inside the room lol. We are very aware of the wildlife there, as in the past we had seen smaller snakes. SOG has signs telling of the florida natural habitat and it has a snake and an alligator on the sign near the water areas on the property.
I am sorry to hear about the posters ds who got bitten.
