Snacks in checked luggage

I am planning on packing snacks in my checked luggage. I have not done this before. I would appreciate any suggestions. Should I put it all in one small suitcase, and use that suitcase for souvies on the way home or should I spread it out among luggage?

I am thinking of taking Pringles individual cans, 100 calorie pack snacks, cashews, almonds, trail mix, possibly danish. Any suggestions?

I put all the odds and ends in one bag,so it's easier to find and also if the unusual contents make your bags more likely to be searched, then hopefully they will only be checking one bag. Plus, you have one bag for souvies and the overflow of clothes that are somehow never as neat going back. I would also bring breakfast items (granola/special K bars, pop tarts, bagels, peanut butter) to save time. Pack crushable snacks in a clear shoe box.

We take snacks every trip. I usually take a carry on ............fill it with pop, water, breakfast items, snacks etc. (basically whatever my heart desires). When we get to the airport i check it! On the way home we have eaten all the food!! Then we use it for our souveniors!! Works great!

I always pack a full suitcase of snacks, oatmeal, microwavable stuff etc. Once empty, we use that suitcase for all our Disney Stuff!!!:thumbsup2

We've done this several times now. My suggestions would be to pack all of it in one suitcase. EVERY time we have taken food, that suitcase has always been opened and inspected by TSA (they put a piece of paper in the bag after inspecting it). We use a plastic 'wire' tie to close the suitcase (actually all of our suitcases). It keeps them from accidentally popping open, but allows TSA access w/o having to break a lock. Anyway, I would suggest skipping the pringles. We tried this once and when we got to the hotel and later opened them, each canister was nothing but crumbs. :lmao: They'd have made a great casserole topping. ;) I probably would suggest putting anything crushable, like 100 cal packs in your carryon. We put some teddy grahams and the like in a plastic tupperware type container that if it got broke I wouldn't care. I've always packed a case of water and a couple of six packs of Diet Dew (since WDW is Pepsi free :sad2: ) and we have yet to have spring a leak. Also, we use a rolling duffle bag for this. We've found it easier to manuever than a rolling pilot case when it's full. Then we put all of our souvies in that bag to come home unless it's a breakable souvie, then it goes in the carry-on. Good Luck w/ your packing and have a great trip. :goodvibes

I agree-Pringles make good cassarole topping just from the vibrations!

Go to Walmart or Target. You can buy inexpensive (3 for $6.)TSA approved locks-with keys or combinations. This is approved for the TSA to enter and keeps other prying eyes from going through your granola bars!

We carry Microwave Popcorn, Cereal, granola bars, 100 cal. paks, chewing gum, and you are allowed to carry up to 5 liters of wine or alcohol. We enjoy a drink and knew we'd have family so I packed a good wine for us to enjoy. Considering our son paid $40 for a bottle I felt pretty good when they visited us in the Villas and we were prepared. I keep a plastic traveler bottle for Rum, sometimes "CAPTAIN Morgan" travels with us.

In our fanny packs at the parks we like atomic fire balls, werthers hard candies and baskin robbins sugar free candy drops. They wet your whistle when you are in line.....popcorn::

We just put it all in one bag, I figured why make them work harder if they need to open all the bags to look at the food. We took some coffee, chex mix, pop tarts, fritos, nutrigrain bars. They all survived the trip well and gave us room to take more stuff home.

put snacks that might get crushed in a shoe box. Worked for us with no problems.

This last trip we even took a small cooler with a freezer pack in it. In there we put butter, one cold soda for me ( diet dew) frozen orange juice( did not work very well) some cheese. And other items we use that needed to be kept cool. We were surprised that they made it quite well and the butter was still very hard. We also took about 8 canned sodas in this suite case as well. We took some boxed crackers, popcorn and poptarts. The TSA did check this bag but everything made it without trouble.

Glad I found this thread. I'm planning on taking snacks for our upcoming trip and have already found great ideas. THANKS!

I have never thought of taking drinks in a plane. Great idea, since diet Dr. Pepper is my fave and I haven't found it at WDW yet.

Remember you can have drinks in your checked luggage. The only drinks you can bring in your carryon is drinks you buy after going through security if flying.

This last trip in September I packed, in our food bag, a soft side small ice chest. We stayed at the budget hotels where they wanted $10 a night for a small refrigerator. I also packed Capri Sun Roaring Waters. They don't have artificial colors to which my son is allergic. They are also only 35 calories per packet. The foil packages don't disintegrate when kept in the cooler with the melting ice like the paper packages on the juicy juice cartons.

I take along a hot pot which allows us to have fresh brewed tea, instant oatmeal, and noodles. I had a loaf of bread, small peanut butter jar, and a sugar-free strawberry jam. I purchased a half gallon of milk at the convenience store at our hotel and used the box of cheerios from home. To top things off I had a bag of apples and a couple of boxes of Fiber One oat and chocolate bars. Those things taste great and provide 9 grams of fiber, an unfortunately much needed addition to my diet when I travel.

We had our breakfasts in the room each day and took a healthy snack with us to help balance out the junk food we ate while in the parks. We were on the meal plan (free during the second week of September), but to maintain family harmony we needed a breakfast that provided more nutrients and less junk.

I am nearly certain you can't hand carry wine anymore. :( The whole liquids rule.

These are some great idea though!! We bring food/snacks in our checked luggage, depending on where we are going.

I might be scared about sodas though!

We brought 5 bottles of wine w/ us when we moved to HI this year (my fav Fla wine!). I packed them in a sturdy cooler, and packed them really really good, bagged them, etc and even then I was told it was upto the airline check-in person on if they want to check it or not. They did make me open the cooler up, so they could verify how it was packed.

All 5 bottles made it safely to Hawaii, BTW!

Just to clarify, any soda I put in my checked luggage is in a bottle. I usually pack a 6 pack of the 24oz bottles. I have never been brave enough to check cans. Just haven't wanted to chance that one! ;) The bottles have always fared just fine and I've done it 4 times now. BTW, I don't pack anything in that bag that couldn't be rinsed off. I don't do clothes that way I wouldn't have to do laundry. Just a thought...
