Snacks at the Movie Theatre

DH gets popcorn and we get a drink to share. I usually bring in my own popcorn/nut combination I make at home because I like it better than just plain popcorn.

Usually DH gets M&M's but I usually frown upon that because he gets the dreaded "Theater Fart" that only a combination of popcorn and M&M's can create. :teeth:

I usually bring my own snacks into the movie it's not a matter of being cheap its a matter of being smart. Why would I spend 4 dollars on a pack of milk duds or whatever when I can buy two packs for a buck.

I thought everyone brought there own snacks into the theatre I guess I'm just kinda suprised that people actually still pay the jacked up prices and buy them at the movies.

That's stealing azgal! Prepare to be flamed! ;)

I am by no means perfect, but thanks for the thought, AuntieMO3.

I have brought my own snacks in the past, but once I had my own kids, I really sat down and thought about this practice.

I decided I didn't want to give my kids the idea that the rules didn't apply to them, or by example let them think that we can get around doing what society expects and no amount of justification can change my mind. I know almost all of the theatre's costs and profits are offset by concession sales. Therefore, since I enjoy going to the movies once or twice a year, like we do, we buy snacks from the concession stand or do without.

If thinking this way makes somehow repellant, uh whatever.

Well, we all have our little vices. :teeth: Do you mind if I ask why you don't? I leave mine on vibrate but that's because I have a teenager who has something she needs to discuss "urgently" if I go to the movies. Last time she called me to complain that The DaVinci Code was taking too long and she needed me to take her somewhere. :rotfl2: Dream on, woman, like I'm leaving the theatre NOW.

I do take it into the lobby to answer it, though.

This probably won't sound right, but... my vibrator doesn't work right. The only way I can be certain of getting calls, if I'm needed, is to leave the the ringer on. I hardly ever get calls while in the movie (its not like I'm THAT important), but would hate to miss out in case I am needed for something.

Snort! :lmao: Perhaps you can call it your "manner mode"?

I think that is great for you. It was more your thought that people who can't afford to pay the ludicrous prices should either not go to the movies or not eat anything that I found a bit judgemental. I guess neither one of us is perfect it just manifests itself in different ways.

I'm evil. I'll admit it. I bring candy and drinks into the movies. I've even taken Subway, Taco Bell and Coldstone in. I make no apologies for doing it and my theater doesn't care. I will occasionally buy something at the movies but that's only if I didn't have enough time beforehand to get it elsewhere. I go to the movies a lot and am not going to pay an extra $10-$15 everytime I go when I can buy the same items for 1/3 of the cost.

Wait, let's try this from a different angle. Is it okay in your book to bring a bag of Taco Bell swill into a fancy Mexican restaurant because the food there is too pricey? Should we bring a six-pack to the bar because their prices aren't within our budget?
:confused3

Totally different circumstances. When you go to either of those places the food/drink is the only reason to be there. When you go to the theater the movie is the reason to be there. I guess we will have to agree to disagree because I am not going to turn this into a fight. Though I will say I enjoy Taco Bell so I would never use the term "swill" ( I guess another thing we disagree on).

When my mom or friends want to go to Starbucks, I frequently bring my own teabags and ask for a cup of hot water. pirate: How awful!

We uausally get a large popcorn and a small drink for each child. I used to openly bring in an empty water bottle and fill it from their water fountain but now that they sell bottled water, I buy one of those for myself.

I have to admit I am a little shocked at how many admit to bringing in their own snacks. If you don't think it's wrong, why do you need to "sneak" it in with you? If you can't budget another $10 to $15.00 to go to the concession stand, you should go without food during the movie showing, or rent a dvd and eat whatever you want at home.

I have only read up to this post. I don't really care what other people do, but DH used to sneak in a can of pop and it always made me very uncomfortable. Now, we just never go to movies. :rotfl: Paying for a movie AND a sitter is tooooo $$$

That's only purgatory (sp). Throw in The English Patient and Troy and that's hell! :rotfl:

I totally agree with you. It's a wayyy different situation. What you're(turbokitty) saying goes along the lines of someone bringing in their laptop and watching their own movie during a movie that the theater is playing. We are simply bringing in some snacks..that is all. We are not making a big fuss by doing so. Some people prefer to pay 20 dollars for movie theater food, while others prefer to be a little wiser and save 15 dollars and buy the same amount of food elsewhere.I guess it all depends on the person..we are not bad people or anything..geesh! :p Ahh..I feel better getting that off my chest..

Well, *I* think it is all too expensive so we just download our movies for free off the internet and then we don't have to sneak snacks in!

I was buying the bootleg copies but this idea will save me even more money! :thumbsup2 Now I won't have to schlepp my Taco Bell swill into those fancy Mexican restaurants. I'll actually be able to afford to eat there! :goodvibes
