Just got back from seeing The Devil Wears Prada and felt so guilty that I don't let my kids get stuff at the theater that I relented and let DD get a popcorn. She was like "Wow, thanks Mom!"
I would almost pass on seeing a movie if I can't have popcorn/soda and something sweet.
Christmas 2004, we took our kids to meet their cousins at the theater to see "Polar Express". My inlaws are very practical, and probably would never spend $ on something as frivolous as popcorn at a movie.
I must have a reputation for spoiling my kids or something b/c my MIL emailed me to tell me that since we'd have just eaten lunch and would be eating dinner together later, there was no reason to let the kids have popcorn during the movie. I was SHOCKED that she was basically telling me we couldn't have snacks in the theater.
I believe that she knew her two daughters wouldn't be buying snacks for their kids, so she wanted to make sure I wasn't planning on buying any for mine.
I always sneak in a box of non-perils (our movie theater doesn't offer them) and I buy some popcorn so I can eat them together YUMMY!!! I sometimes will also get a slushy to wash it down, and then buy the time I'm leaving I have a sugar buzz from the slushy and non-perils together

Yeah, it's a pretty good movie. Not the best movie in the world but entertaining all the way through. Both Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway are good in their roles. The first half of the movie is much more entertaining that the second half, but still good. My 15 year old DD LOVED it because she's all into the New York/fashion thing. My DS (11) liked most of it but got a bit bored at the end with the lovey-dovey stuff and the soul searching that the Anne Hathaway character has to go through at the end.
I read the book a few years ago and was disappointed in it at the end of the book. This is one case where the movie is much better than the book.
I admit it- I am a snack-smuggler at the movies. No, I don't mean a chip here and there or a baggie of sour-straws. I mean that I have been known to sneak in a 12 inch sub and have it eaten before the previews are over
I admit that part of my issue is that I try to avoid most of the junk that the theaters sell. I'm not always successful by any means but eating that stuff and also paying so much for it makes me feel too guilty!
Maybe I could avoid the wrong food everywhere if only it cost a lot!
