Snacks at the Movie Theatre

Well, *I* think it is all too expensive so we just download our movies for free off the internet and then we don't have to sneak snacks in!

That's only purgatory (sp). Throw in The English Patient and Troy and that's hell! :rotfl:

:lmao:
Totally agree about The English Patient. I kind of liked Troy, except I had this really annoying friend with me. She kept yammering through the movie :rolleyes1

Am I really the only person on Earth that buys a pickle? Really? DH always says that I'm the only one, but I never believed him............ :rotfl:

To bad I wasn't sitting by her. At least she could have kept me entertained! :p

They sell the pickles at the theater? My brother would love that.

Even Brad Pitt couldn't save that movie. And I ran out of the snacks I had hidden in my purse way to soon! :sad2:

:rotfl: You apparently need a bigger purse!

Totally different circumstances. When you go to either of those places the food/drink is the only reason to be there. When you go to the theater the movie is the reason to be there.

My two cents.... movie theaters pretty much exist to sell you candy, popcorn, and soda. They don't make much on the ticket price; most of it goes back to Hollywood. If you eat something you have brought in with you instead of purchasing a snack at the refreshment counter you have broached one of their main profit centers. Look, I'm not saying anyone is a "bad person" for smuggling in a box of Raisinets that you bought at Dollar Tree; it's just not healthy for the soul when we try to fool ourselves. I choose not to smuggle (ever) and not to purchase (most of the time). I've thought it thru and this is what I've come up with.

We ALWAYS buy something at the movie theatre snack counter even if we are sneaking in something else. :teeth: Lately it seems that Junior Mints are not on the menu and those are my movie must have snack! But if I have to smuggle in Junior Mints that they aren't selling anyway, then we still have to buy the popcorn and pop. BTW, I only made it to pg 2 of this thread before I had to pop some popcorn! popcorn::

What I find funny(and yes Ive replied already that we do hit the dollar store and buy candy for the movies)is that people pay thousands of dollars for a cruise, and yet they are allowed to bring water and soda on board with them. People bring drinks and snacks into Disney World as well, and nobody sais anything about it. So how is bringing your own snacks into a movie such a big deal?
Hey if you got the extra money, or just dont care about price, to buy snacks for a family of 5, go for it.
We just pick and choose where we spend our money. My kids have no problem eating candy from the dollar store. That way, when they spill it, Im not crying about the 3.50 on the floor. ;)

I don't disagree with anyone who's not comfortable with bringing things in, but we definitely do. We always get the popcorn there and the adult drinks, but they have nothing my kids like to drink there. They don't drink soda and I'm not about to get them used to liking it. And really, water is great but tastes terrible with popcorn. So we often bring juice boxes or bottles. And the candy sizes, com' on. Over-sized and wasteful! Another thing I'm not about to encourage. IF we have candy at the movie (we don't always), we stop and the kids choose their own normal-sized portion to bring.

I think they provide snacks as a lucrative service, but I don't even see signs anymore that you can't bring your own. What about younger kids drinks and Cheerios and kids who are allergic to something or another, etc. I think these are reasons they stopped policing bring ins. And if they want to sell more they only need to make their prices more competitive. This is not a justification, but just a fact.

Just my opinion, just for my family. There are plenty of other things I have high ideals for that other people don't.

Like Simon. I don't watch AI, especially in the beginning of a season, because I think he's mean and egotistical. This is an important principle to me, not laughing at people or being hurtful or thinking you're better than others. So I don;t watch and I don't let the kids watch. We all have our things I guess. I know the entire rest of the universe loves the show. And that's fine. In no way do I think anyone is bad for watching it. I only make decisions for me and for my kids. As far as I'm concerned, unless there is abuse we should all just judge ourselves!

And when we went to Disney I'm pretty sure we used a child's meal credit for an adult at one point...... (Where's the hiding emoticon?)

When we go to the movies here, my kids always buy their snacks at the movies. But while they always advertise bottled water, they NEVER have it. I finally told the lady behind the concession stand that next time I'm bringing it in since you don't have it. She said that was fine, so I did. :thumbsup2

Sigh...you get pickles at the DRIVE IN, not the regular theatre. :teeth: Just kidding--I haven't been to the drive in for years but I always bought a pickle there. Haven't seen them at the regular theatre.

Okay...OP here. I can't leave you guys alone for a minute. My little fluff thread about me being an oinker at the movies turned into a true popcorn thread. :teeth: I thought I was pretty safe--I mean, I didn't mention refillable mugs or pool hopping at all.

Let's just say that I understand the reasoning behind not bringing your own food in. Our local theatres don't have the big "No Outside Food Allowed" and have lowered prices, offered refills on ALL sizes of pop and popcorn and have a loyalty card that gives rewards. I know this is due to the new big movie theatre (the only one really comparable to this one) opening on the other side of town. They got a little competition and suddenly the customer was king. And, frankly, I LOVE it. When one chain of theatres seems to be the only game in town, we pay more. Since our theatre is more reasonably priced, I buy all my goodies there. Well, except for the Red Vines. :teeth:

So, basically, I just wanted to tell you all that I appreciate hearing from all my fellow movie piggies!

Way too cheap - I hate buying stuff at the movies. Probably because with 4 kids I could easily be up to $100.

Yes, we have been known to smuggle in bags of candy from CVS. :guilty:
