Smugmug

Out of curiosity, re-looked at what SmugMug has to say about right click protection, FYI

Right-click protection
Power and Professional subscribers can choose to foil right-clicking on their photos on a gallery-by-gallery basis. Simply find the protected option in your Customize Gallery settings?.

It still allows the user to right-click, save as... (after they see a copyright notice dialog) but the image that gets saved is blank.

Gotcha: SmugMug's right-click protection does not protect an image in a forum or blog post. To keep your images out of forums and blogs, block external links (see below).

Gotcha: Right-click protection is a deterrent for image theft but it should not be considered fool-proof. To truly protect your images, lock galleries with a password or apply a watermark and disable original-sized image viewing.

Anyone know if you can upload the photos directly from PSE7 to Smugmug? I'm thinking not, but if I put them in albums in PSE7, it would be nice to just move it directly over there.

I just found the answer to my question while fooling around with PSE7 and it's YES!

I also just noticed my ticker is at 39 days to WDW  so I had better get all my Alaska photos done before then. I took over 2500 of them, and that's probably not a lot for some of you, but it's taking me a looong time!

I can upload from PSE5 to SmugMug, so unless Adobe removed that feature, it should be there in PSE7, too.

I started with Flickr, but soon gave up on it. It just didn't seem user-friendly for friends who wanted to view albums. You could only do slideshow. Maybe we were missing something. I'm glad I hadn't loaded to much on to the site.

We've moved onto SmugMug and like it so far. I have more to upload and want to order a photobook. I also geotag our photos with GPS coordinates. Its fun to see the photos on the map of places we've traveled.

Okay, you all have convinced me. I'll fork over another $40 for this hobby, or actually $35 with the coupon code (Thank you Code:worship!:)) But you've convinced me I don't need more than the standard membership so I think you've saved me $20? That sounds better, doesn't it?;)

Thanks!

Like you found out, you CAN upload from PSE, but I found an even easier way (for me.) You can actually install SmugMug's uploader onto your computer so that you can simply right click a folder on your computer, and then tell it to send it to SmugMug. I haven't even tried it yet through PSE so that might be even easier, but I like not having to open any programs. :cool1:

Of course, if we all start making our pictures available to the scrapbookers, none of us will make as much money. On the other hand, the scrapbookers will have more and better pictures to chose from and will be happier.
As a scrapbooker I can't tell you how much your generosity means. I've found most of the photographers here are quite kind in that regard. I have made private requests about pictures and been told, "Please use whatever you want.":goodvibes I'd bet this willingness actually works in your (and others) favor as far as sales go. Kind of a thank you for helping thing.

I have the Power User account with smugmug but don't use it to it's advantage. I find it painfully slow to upload to but then again they aren't mangling my photos like Photobucket and Flikr. My main reason for getting it was so friends and family can download full res pics if they want. Sadly, no matter how many times I explain how to do it most of them don't get it.:confused3

I love smugmug!! I've been a member for about a year now.. hmm come to think of it I probably have to renew soon. I got a 50% off coupon last year so it was only $20 for me and has been well worth it. I have about 5,000 pics up on my site and I love the layout. It's easy to find what I'm looking for, and their customer service is great. Lately they've done a lot of updates and I've gotten annoyed with the site being down a few times, but another poster made the point that at least they are good about keeping us updated with what they're doing.

The setup is great and my friends and family like it too. I have a friend that uses Flickr and he's also thinking about joining smugmug.

I, too, recently started a smugmug account up. I used up too much bandwidth on Photobucket typing up my trip report and it locked up my pictures :headache:.

Got a code for 50% off (YAHOO was the code word) and set up the standard account. I'm also going to be photographing my sisters wedding next year. I like the option to hide the albums. Family from all over the country will be able to order photos directly from the site, which will make it much easier than me having to keep up with zip codes and send them to WalMarts.

I haven't had time to set it up exactly the way I'd like and thus far all I have loaded up are Disney photos from my trip a few months ago.

Well, thanks alot....I was just thinking of using an online service like this just the other day. I will have to look at them when I get home....I too have PE7 and use the photoshop online service. The one think I like about the PS online is it has a link to Facebook and can automaticaly upload the album to my facebook page..Does Smugmug have this feature?

I love Smug... And IMO has some of the best plugins for Facebook. I am using two at the moment. Smugfoto puts my galleries in a tab and displays it in Facebook. The other I use (SimpleMug) will auto post on my profile with 5 thumbs and link back to my Smug gallery announcing I have updated pics. SimpleMug will also check password protected galleries if you tell it to which I like for the family pics.

Thanks everyone for your replies! I'm now signed up with a trial membership and will be getting the standard membership for now. I too found it real slow for uploading, but I just took my laptop to work and let it upload while I worked.

Can someone explain plugins to me? I've heard of plugins for PSE and now for Smugmug? I feel a bit overwhelmed trying to learn PSE7 and now I have to learn about plugins too? I'm not going to have time to take anymore pictures!;)

Plugins simply mean that it allows you to run a program within a program. For instance, Topaz has a plugin that allows you to run the topaz adjust (post-processing program) within Photoshop Elements. Same goes for the SmugMug plugin. Make sense?

What's Facebook?
It's that thing that causes arguments amongst family and friends. As in:
"Why didn't you tell me when the birthday party was?"
"Well, I posted it on Facebook!"
"I don't go to Facebook!"
"Well, if you want to know what's going on you need to!"
(I have these types of conversations ALL the time)

It's that thing that's taken the place of all other communication apparently.:confused3

Cool. I use Smugfoto on my Facebook account, but I didn't know about the SimpleMug. Thank you for sharing that.

Can you tell me in very simple directions where these options are? Would be interesting to merge the two together for photos of DDs that I load up to smug.

TIA :goodvibes

I had never thought of it like that, but that is a true caption. I have it even worse now that I have it on my Blackberry....

Has anyone else been having trouble uploading pictures to Smugmug? I'm doing it directly from PSE7 but it keeps getting interrupted saying I don't have an internet connection or maybe PSE7 is being blocked by a firewall. Neither one is the reason because I've allowed everything to go through the firewall and I'm obviously on the internet. If I close the Organizer in PSE7 after that happens, it crashes when I try to open it up. I have to go in and delete some folder in order to get it to come up again.

Smugmug says my connection is fine. They recommended downloading the latest Java which I did and it seems to help some. But I'm still getting the error message.

We just switched to AT&T internet Saturday and they're coming back this Saturday to check the line, but they say nothing is wrong with the network.

I tried uploading to Smugmug on my laptop at work today, but it was still interrupted. On Smugmug's forums, other people are posting about having the same problem of uploads being interrupted, but they don't really get an answer.

I have 5 days left of my free trial and I really like Smugmug, but this is very frustrating.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same issue with PSE6. Also found others with same issues but no one has resolution. I just resort to using another upload tool outside of PSE.

Hi,
Does anyone know if and how I can copy photos from my smugmug back to my computer? I thought I was deleting shortcuts to my Arizona pictures from my desktop- turns out they were the actual links:( Dopey me never got around to copying them to disc or external hard drive:headache:
Thanks! :)
