Is smoking allowed at Disneyland or is it only allowed in designated areas?

I ask because today we were all lost from each other so one person in our party told me to stay put until he came back. I had the kids with me and this guy was smoking right snack in the middle of everyone. I politely asked him to move and didn't even ask him to quit.

Very smart *** like he went around behind me and put out his cigarette (right next to me). And then threw it away next to us and then went up to my daughter all smart and said "sorry" with this fake voice.

So with that said I wonder if smoking is allowed. Sorry long story.

There are dedicated smoking areas, they are noted on each map.

If there is an issue, I'd ask a CM to speak with the smoker.

Only in designated areas. There's one near the water by NOS, one by the ranch. Otherwise I don't know where they are since I'm not a smoker.

There's one by the Matterhorn too, under the monorail tracks and near Autopia offoroad part. I've heard stories of people being fined for smoking in non-designated areas. Don't know if that is true or not. I really wish they would just make the park non-smoking...but I understand why they still have areas for smokers. I'm sorry this person was so rude to you.

Could you have been in a smoking area, if you were there would of been ashtrays there. If no ashtrays its not a smoking area and he shouldn't of been smoking there.

There are designated areas but with that being said on are last trip which was 2 weeks ago we had this happen to us 3 times, twice while in Disneyland. They were not in a designated area. I know this because one time was walking down Main Street towards the Castle and the second time was in Fantasyland by the Mr.Toads. I am a former smoker and asked nicely as well but was ignored and the second person acted like it was me who was the problem. Both times there was not a CM in site. The other thing I don't know if Disneyland has dealt with is electronic cigarets. I encountered those countless times on or last trip, while on rides and while in restaurant's and even with CM near they didn't act like there was an issue with those. Anyway sorry to get off topic a little bit, and sorry for your recent experience.

I'm a former cigerette smoker. It's hard to be around people smoking now. I got off the cigarettes by using a medication and the ecig with no nicotine. There is nothing wrong with them, they are just a flavored oil. Yes, the do have nicotine in most. Till California has a law on the books that they to be treated the same as a cigerette, they can be smoked anywhere. Utah has that law. When we where there in Nov, we still only smoked them where smoking is allowed. Its a hard and bad habit.

My friend, who is a smoker asked at the ride times board for clarification and was told that as long as you're walking outside while you smoke, you won't be told to stop, even if you're outside the designated smoking area. I'm sure most guests know that they will finish their cigarette by the time a CM would be able to approach them.

i really wish i went to disneyland when the whole park was smoking friendly, i love disneyland and i love smoking, i hope they never get rid of the smoking areas.

My husband is a smoker. He is also very aware of others around him and is very conscious of bothering others. He always smokes only in the designated areas. That being said, on our last trip in Dec we were right next to the smoking section in NOS. He was going to have a cigarette and we were going to go ahead to pooh. He had already pulled the cigarette out of his pack and was about to head into the area when I needed his help holding my packages to get something out for my son. I said to my DH to "hold this", he grab my bags and stuck his non-lit cig in his mouth (more out of habit then anything else). An older CM gentleman who was cleaning the area started to scream at my husband about the cigarette. We said sorry he wasn't lighting it. He just stuck it in his mouth really quick cuz I had thrown all my Disney purchase bags at him. (Again we were literally right in front of the smoking area.) He continued to yell at my hubby about not smoking. My husband had taken the cigarette out of his mouth immediately and we again reassured the CM that he was not going to be smoking it. I have never had a cm be like that and was quite upset by the whole thing. Especially because my DH always trys to not bother anyone with his habit. We just let it go but that cm made my husband feel really bad.
So I know that they told your friend that they wouldn't ask them to stop but that was not our experience. (And just for the record I hate that my husband smokes and I wish he would quit...:worried:)

I'm guessing that was misinformation. I have encountered people smoking in non designated areas twice. One guy was stopped the second that he passed a CM. The CM was not shy about it either and was not happy. The second time there was a woman smoking near Splash Mountain, just standing around. I informed a nearby CM and within a minute or two there were two CM approaching the smoker. She put it out before they got to her but they still spoke with her.
Many years ago DH and I were at WDW. We smoked at the time and did not know the smoking policy (we were 20 and really didn't care). We lit up on Main Street. A CM came over and very politely asked us to put them out and we did. He then went on to let us know the smoking policy and showed us on a map where the smoking areas were.

We couldn't have been in a designated area.

What got me about the guy was that he looked at my daughter and intimidated her. If he had made a smart comment to me it wouldn't have been a big deal.

Just out of curiosity, how old is your daughter? I would have come undone if some creep would have done that to one of my daughters! That is disgusting! He shouldn't even be at Disneyland with that crappy attitude and behavior. Just my humble opinion.

She is 7. My 9 year old was there too but he seemed to single out my youngest.

Oh, I would have made a scene over that. That is so creepy! What kind of sicko wants to make a small girl feel intimidated? That is so wrong!

I know! I should have thought quicker and said something back. But at least he left. The way I took it is that he was bullying her by picking the youngest and smallest. She balled after he walked away.

So that's why I wondered if there were designated areas. Not that it would make it right if you were allowed to smoke anywhere but at least I know.

We were right outside of the castle. Probably not even 10 feet from the building.

OP, if you were at the Castle, there is no smoking area over there that is designated for smokers that I am aware of.

Yes, smoker has to go over by the Matterhorn or over by the Fantasyland/Frontierland (near BTMBBQ). And there is an area by the Rivers of America. (I am guessing that is the one in NOS).
(There was an area by DUMBO for about a month but that is no longer a smoking area).

DH and I are walkers and we walk the parks almost daily and we pass all these areas.

If there are more in DL I can not think of them right now!

Ohhh, I feel so bad for your little girl! My girls would have cried too! What a sad excuse for a human being. Why would somebody like that even want to be at Disneyland? All over smoking a crappy cigarette. I detest smoking. I grew up with two parents that smoked. It's killing my mom, but will she quit? Nope. It has such a strong hold on her.

Well, I hope that unfortunate incident doesn't ruin your daughters trip. Hopefully that bad memory will be blotted out by all the wonderful ones! :) She needs a trip to the BBB to remind her of what fabulous little princess she is. :)

BBB is on the list. We go Saturday. Yay!

It won't ruin the trip :) (the smoking incident I mean)
