I made a ressie at the Swan today for our trip in October and when I asked for the AP holder rate, she said there was availability, but only for a smoking room. I told her I definitely wanted NONsmoking and she suggested that instead of lake view, that I book the next level up, a "resort level" room which would look out onto the Boardwalk. I book the next level up...a "resort view" room instead of a lake view room. This was going to be around $20-30 more per night and it wasn't what I wanted, so I told her again I wanted lake view with non-smoking. It almost seemed like she was trying to do the bait and switch routine on me, you know?

I asked her to go ahead and reserve the smoking room for me and she suggested that I continue to call back and try to get it changed to a non-smoking room. Has anyone ever heard of this? I have never heard of a resort having availability for your time frame, but not for your smoking preference. What do you all think?

It has happened to us plenty of times, when all the non-smoking rooms are already reserved. People cancel reservations all the time, so do as the reservationist suggested and keep calling.

We have run into this problem, but in the reverse! DH smokes so we always make sure we are in a smoking room. They gave you very good advice, book the room then keep calling until you can get your room preference switched. With so many people needing a nonsmoking room which has NEVER had a smoker in it there are rooms which are delegated just for that purpose. Good luck to you! You will love the Swan!

Interesting.......I was under the impression that the Swan was a non-smoking hotel. Hm.

On the contrary. Both the Swan and the Dolphin allow smoking in the public areas, lobby, hallways, etc. Not sure how that is allowed, but apparently it is okay. It is one of the things I really dislike about both of them, but other than that, they both have so much to offer.

I wonder with the new Florida law, if things will be different on your next visit.
