Smoking & stroller wagons banned May 1!

The reason I do not complain about alcohol consumption in DCA is because it is affecting the person who is drinking, not everyone around them too. I won't get cancer from someone else drinking alcohol, but I DID get cancer from people smoking around ME, so, that isn't be a hypocrite at all. Also, regular smoking cigarettes has been banned in many places in CA for YEARS, so, smoking/vaping ANYTHING should and is now banned in DL.

Those are some sad statistics for sure...It is just not at all what they were talking about. The people enjoying an adult beverage at DCA are not actively driving a car- they are walking or at most driving their electric wheelchairs. They are staying at the parks and sobering up before leaving, staying at hotels within walking distance, or taking ubers and shuttles back to their homes and hotels. Alternatively, the people blowing their second hand smoke out into my face and that of all of those children in the parks (I don't even have kids, but they're the group most at risk) are actively endangering the health and lives of those around them. Maybe you just can't fully "get it" until you've watched a loved one die a slow painful death from cancer related to tobacco usage and or been through cancer yourself. I unfortunately have had both experiences, so IMO this smoking ban is a wonderful gift but I couldn't care less about anyone drinking in DCA (even though I don't drink either).

I find it quite interesting that nobody on my last trip three weeks ago including the people with allergies and asthma had problems with SHORT TERM exposure to a couple of things that are MUCH MUCH WORSE than any cig smoke. I was on the bridge between France and the UK during illuminations, and every bit of smoke because of the wind that night was coming into the crowds. Didn't see anybody complain or leave, during the half hour or more from the hundreds if not more in my area. There is also the vehicle exhaust from thousands of guests cars trucks etc. The worse of all are all the diesel buses that are used for transportation. Especially ones that use 50% renewable FUEL which is even worse than regular diesel, but it does save someone MONEY. I suppose no one told everyone that these and others are far worse in short term exposure than cigs.

Triggered? I guess the difference between smelling a vehicle momentarily is expected and for most people a necessity to commute with while smoking is a choice and the public at large expects the smoker to be considerate and not force them to smell what you're blowing out of your lungs. I could be wrong though.

A person sitting to my left is smoking, the person to my right is having a drink in DCA. The person to my left is sucking on a cigarette immediately affecting the quality of MY life right there and then. The person on the right is sucking on a straw immediately affecting the quality of HIS/HER life only. I am against drinking and driving.

Sounds like a hard trip in Walt Disney World. In Disneyland, and California, in general, smoking bans have been in place for years. I am glad Disneyland is catching up with them. People walk from their hotel/motel rooms, or the parking structures. Same with the smog, (exhaust from vehicles, etc), CA has some of the strictest laws on the books to cut back on emissions. In CA, people do complain about the smoking in the parks. One smoker flicked her lit butt on the ground. I spoke up and told her to pick it up and put it out the right way. She could have burned a child! So, yes, people that go to the parks in CA do speak up. I guess they do not speak up in the Florida parks.

Actually, they are indeed much worse, but may not be aware if it. Additionally there are those who are allergic to cigarette smoke that have been unable to experience shops, restaurants and attractions that are too close to the smoking areas.

I really wish Disney would ban smoking from everywhere on their property it that the cities they are in would follow the lead of some other U.S. cities and ban smoking in all public spaces and all "shared residences", which include Apartments, hotels, time shares, etc

And you are right about car exhaust being bad, but we are working towards moving to electric vehicles, we just need to stop big oil from bribing government officials and car manufactures from impeding the process in order to protect their traditonal profit mechanism. Now, I also wish Disney would change Autopia to all electric for this reason, in addition to the fact that all electric is the future of the automotive industry despite Big Oil and vehicle manufacturers efforts to the contrary.

Most buses are now either Natural Gas (not perfect, but better) or electric, at least in Southern California.

Additionally, while driving I can out the air on recycled and there is the cabin air filter that removes a lot of the particulates, niether of which are options when walking around the theme parks.

So is it for the stroller base or the overall stroller? If the base fits, but the carriage hangs over a bit, does it count? And I wonder what they'll do about strollers that are barely too big. I can imagine some ugly arguments at bag check.
I was the stroller box as soon as you come down the escalator on Mickey and Friends. But I don’t remember seeing anymore measuring their stroller there. I guess we will find out on Wednesday when the rule officially applied.

Not at all, we just don't like being killed by others behavior. It is why California bans smoking in all indoor workplaces and many outdoor ones. Honestly then parks are some if the last workplaces that are still allowed to have smoking areas in California and why they are allowed is beyond me.

Perfectly reasonable to us to have the right to breathe clean air that is free from Tobacco and the nasty effects and smell it has.

But I know there are many people who are so addicted that they can't go a few hours without a cigarette to avoid harming others and others who are so selfish that they don't care enough to even want to try, even though they know how much damage they are doing to others. 5 minutes of being near second hand smoke is the equivalent of smoking a cigarette and causes a stiffening if the Aorta, which can lead to an increase risk if a heart attack. It is even worse for children, pregnant women, elderly, etc. Which is the reason that smoking inside a vehicle with a child in it is considered child abuse in California and is grounds for immediate removal from the parents until they take parenting classes in California.

Here is a great site that talks about the dangers: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/10644-secondhand-smoke-dangers

I wasn't trying to cause a which is the greatest state conversation. I was just pointing out that people really don't think on their own. There is far worst than cig smoke all around us, but the media didn't tell us about these. You used a stooges quote a couple times above, but any self respecting three stooges fan would know that THIS HOUSE HAS SHO GONE CRAZY is from the short A PLUMING WE WILL GO. Just trying to lighten things up a little.

Not starting which state is best, simply pointing out the honest truth as to why banning smoking is the right thing to do and much of what around us is being cleaned up dramatically, cigarette smoking needs to be on that list and banning it from public places is one of the easiest and simplest things we can do to clean up our air.

And I didn't use any stooges quotes, just stating I think I gave every right to expect clean air.

A friend and I will hit the park this Wednesday (May 1). I’ll report back if I see anything unusual. But it will be nice to walk down BTT free of the worry of cigarette smoke.

I'll be very interested in hearing first day reports on this along with subsequent reports how it's progressing. Especially since I'm among those severely affected by smoke it will be good information to hear how it's going.

I have such high hopes this might improve the quality of my visits. But it will depend greatly on enforcement.

Also will be curious about the rest and how that goes, of course.

Yep, it also is going to depend on where they put the smoking areas outside the entrance.

Let's stop the arguing and keep this thread on topic so it can continue to be helpful and informative.

For those of you keeping this thread on topic, thank you! As May 1st draws near, it is probable that more people will be looking at this thread for updated information on the new rules and how they are being enforced in the parks. This thread can be a very helpful resource for them.

Near the Security tent. If gray bricks are 8.5 inches then by my calculations the 31 x 52 inches don`t include the blue border
