I keep readling about smoking allowed on the verandahs--I had planned on spending alot of time there and also leaving my doors open at nite but I am extremely allergic to cig smoke--am I going to lose all of the benefits of my verandah?

thanks

Oh no! I did not know people were allowed to smoke on verandahs! I hope we get all non smokers on our area!

If you are that worried, you might want to switch to Carnival's non-smoking ship............;)

I was in the aft end of the ship and our verandah was a little shorter than the one under us and the woman was a smoker down there ...she would stand at the end of the verandah and smoke and it would all come up to ours...I kept going inside when she was out there smoking...it was a bit annoying that I couldn't enjoy it due to a smoker but when she wasn't out smoking it was nice out there!

The only thing I ever noticed about smoke was it billowing backwards at 20 mph or so. The sea breeze is usually enough but added to that is the fact that you're moving forward. The smoke doesn't tend to drift anywhere except backwards and quite quickly at that. I wouldn't waste time stressing about it as the Marlboro Man isn't into cruising. He tends to ride horseback. :)

My main concern is the clubs at night. I would hate for us not to be able to go to any Beat Street activities.

How bad are they? IMO, all inside areas should be nonsmoking.

My DW also has problems with smoke.

What we found on our last trip is that while you travel, which is every night, the smoke blows toward the rear. The ship travels about 20 mph. Last time we were in one of the most rear Verandahs and Rarely could use our Verandah.
:(

This time we tried to get as far forward as we could. We are hoping that there is not one in front of us smoking.

Good luck. :)

I am very sensitive to smoke, and in 21 cruise (not all with verandahs, but quite a few), I've only had prpblems on a few occasions when we had chain-smoking neighbors. It seems to be the exception rather than the rule. Of course, that's one of the reasons that I like stateroom 5650. You only have a neighbor on one side, so your chances of being near smoke are less, and it is lower so nothing drifts up.
Rootee: Unfortunately, the Rockin' Bar D/Wavebands does not have good ventilation, so even in non-smoking it's pretty bad. I would spend more time there if ti wasn't so smoky, but I only will brave it for the 70s party. The set-up in one area is non-smoking in front and smoking right behind, so you have smokers right behind you.

We were on deck 8 when a smoker next door (toward the front) lit up on their verandah. Needless to say, we were sent inside and quickly shut the door. What a bummer - what a waste. But hey, guess they gotta smoke somewhere.

Is it the smoke from the diesel engines that propel the ship that was bothering your DW or smoke from a cigar or cigarette?

It sounds more like the ship's engines bothered her. If not, it must have been a lot of cigarettes being smoked for most of the cruise, which would be a real bummer.

We had occasions on two different cruises where smokers were a little too enthusiastic and we had to go in often, but when the ship was docked in port were the worst times.

I believe that cigarettes will be taxed and or legislated out of existence soon. As an ex-smoker that quit more than 20 years ago, it's very tough to quit, but it can be done. I'm shocked at what a carton of cigs costs these days, and I thought it was bad in 1980.

Not trying to start anything, but smokers are people too. I respect other people's rights, and I myself am a non-smoker, but was raised by smoking parents, and have a smoking husband. We paid for a verandah, so he could smoke in the room, out on the verandah., Much more annoying to me, as a non-drinker, are people who have had too much to drink. No one confines these people to the bars, or to their verandahs!!!;)

As I said earlier:
Not everyone wants to share someone elses cigarette/cigar!

Secondary smoke can kill.:(

It's almost impossible to share someone else's alcohol fumes unless you are right in their face. I agree that too much alcohol can lead to very dangerous situations, but at least I don't have to face the fear of getting lung cancer or other diseases from someone else's sensible drinking.

They are people too... BUT....MY rights are not being respected if I am foced to inhale someone elses poison. I choose not to smoke, take drugs, Drink for the most part (I have had 2 drinks in 4 years) or anything else that will damage my body and I resent when I am forced to inhale second hand smoke! Outside of some places here they have the "Cancer Huts"...small enclosed shelters where smokers can go inside and all smoke themselves silly without other people having to breathe it in....they should have them all over!

I too am a nonsmoker which was raised by smokers. My Mom now has emphysema and my father died of lung cancer 9 months ago. I'm not fan of smoking but I do not make a major issue of it. I don't jump on the "prohibit smoking" bandwagon as honestly it is their right to smoke. It's their lungs and if they choose to blacken them it is their business, not mine. I am truly opposed to all the regulations and limits placed on the rights of those who do smoke. Everyone is all too quick to condemn a habit and want it prohibited everywhere, including outdoors. When your habit of choice becomes the next target will you all be so willing to jump on that bandwagon too? I'm not so sure that limiting and prohibiting someone's personal freedom is the right avenue to go down. It's only a matter of time when it's your freedom that becomes politically correct to condemn.

One thing which always comes to mind. Everyone is so concerned about that second hand smoke that they are forced to inhale. What about that car exhaust. Those fumes are much more toxic but I don't see many wanting cars prohibited. Hmmm.....

LOL, you have a point there, I'd much rather be in a non-ventilated room with 20 smokers than I would be a car running. LOL

Just a reminder here that we are welcome to discuss the smoking areas on the Disney Ships or Cruise Board related, but any discussions of smoking, for or against, can be debated on our DIS Debate Board. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. :)
