What is this all about? How rude can a person be. I am a lurker, exactly for this reason. I just don't understand how people can be so mean to each other. If this poster is representing the nonsmoking population, he sure is making that population look horrible. Are you also this ignorant to other groups you don't agree with? TheRustyScupper said:1) I guess rudeness and selfishness shows not bounds.
2) I wonder how you can possibly survive in a non-smoking restaurant.
3) You poor, poor people.
4) God must have something against you.
5) Imagine, being put into a non-smoking room!
6) Life can be cruel!
7) Next, they will tell you smoking is hazardous to your health.
8) The audacity of some people!

That is why. If he is really bothering you, just let him know nicely and he will remedy the situation. I am considerate of his smoking and he is very considerate of my intolerance.

I am a considerate smoker. I smoke in the designated areas only on park. If I smoke at the bus stops, I never do so under the awning or near the ashtray. I see what way the wind is blowing and make sure my smoke does not go into the people waiting for a bus. I do not smoke in a "non-smoking room" (no offense LuvTony0508, I've done the same thing you had and tried to remedy the situation immediately! Glad they moved you!

I wonder where the smoke is going.....can you say IN THE NONSMOKING ROOM! I never understood why people smoke right in front of their door to smoke. And if you think about it, the door is usually open so they can talk to another family member. And if you stand in front of your door, people have to walk by. Wonder where my smoke is going.....there is never going to be a happy medium.

There are going to be people who don't care that I'm a considerate smoker and tell me I'm going to H....E.....double Hockey sticks and I'm the reason their family member is ill.
I'm the one who is going to suffer my adult decision to not quit, but I try my hardest not to let it interfer with others, again, I'm considerate.
dd who will be 15 on our vaca... I will spend the next 11 months drilling into her head that if she cant think of something nice to say to a stranger, than to keep her trap shut (for mommy's sake!)
Well, then you'd have problems at a resort like the Contemporary - in which all the rooms are non-smoking, but Guests ARE permitted to smoke on the balconies...GEM said:YUK! I really wish they would make it against the rules to smoke on the balconies of non-smoking rooms
But it's the rooms that are non-smoking, not the outdoors. It's different in the parks - people are out and about anyway. Lots of smokers are used to a cigarette just before they go to bed, or as soon as they wake up. It's not reasonable to expect these Guests to get dressed, go perhaps down several floors and off 'somewhere' to have a cigarette.MelanieC said:I for one hate it when I'm walking to my NON-smoking room to have to breathe in the smoke of someone standing in front of a room smoking. There should be designated areas that people can smoke outside like there is at the parks.
But it IS a non-smoking room; it's not a non-smoking walkway...Skroops said:We had the same issue as we arrived to our resort on our last visit (POP). I said loudly to my DH as we approached the room with our baby sleeping in the stroller "I thought they said it was a non-smoking room!"
Well, it's not exactly that they put smoking areas next to the elevators; it's more that (a) you can't smoke in an elevator, so there are ashtrays there and (b) that when even a Disney resort is designed/built, it probably hasn't been determined where/if smoking is going to be optional.Aubrie said:Also why does WDW put smoking areas right next to elevators. As far as everyone being able to enjoy the pools, why not make one side smoking and one nonsmoking. It seems simple enough
Understandable - but I thought the issue here is primarily at the resorts with outdoor walkways to the rooms (Value & Moderate), not hotels with indoor corridors. To the best of my knowledge, smoking in those hotels IS restricted to inside the guestrooms or outside the building (and yes, that does mean balconies).Charleyann said:Please, think of the sick children and people. Please don't smoke in corridors and places without proper ventiliation.
Um, generally no, not unless the door is open and the smoker is blowing the smoke in that direction. Most of the time, it goes out into the surrounding air and dissipates.FanofG00fy said:You know what shocked me the most The Sweetness, is that they told me to do it outside more door or anywhere outside. One immediate problem with that is the size/layout of most of the Disney resorts. You'd need probably a dozen just at Pop Century, and HOW many at Port Orleans Riverside? Speaking of which, to the best of my recollection (confirmed by my Disney Specialist who's been there much more recently) there are ashtrays on the walkways of at least one non-smoking building in Alligator Bayou - so apparently not only does Disney expect some smokers to be assigned to that building, they enable said Guests to smoke yes, right outside their rooms.razamataz said:I think that if everyone (who posted here) requested Disney create a "covered smoking patio" that it might make a difference. Far enough from walkways, but close enough to watch the hotel room if you are the only adult present.

C~ If only all smokers could think that way (being as considerate as possible) perhaps we could all (smokers and non) get along better. But that would require tollerance and consideration on the part of us *sainted non-smokers as well![]()
I know how challenging it can be. However, when it comes to my daughters health (she has asthma) I want her to consider her health first and speak up for herself when necessary. Of course I want her to do it in a manner which is NOT rude. Good luck.
