Smoking at Disney

I'd gladly smoke in a glass bubble to not inconvince others. I'd also appreciate it if we could muzzle screaming children because I don't want to hear that crap, and let's make overweight people stop eating cupcakes because that grosses me out and I don't want to see that crap.

Or pay their health care

This is not a health care issue there is no reason to bring that up here and it goes into a political discussion which is a dis boards rule. It didn't strike a chord, I'm enforcing the rules.

I just find the timing suspicious, as people on this board have stated that smoking is harmful to others (never proven). How is this not political, when smokers are being penalized for smoking. The rule was only mentioned when I defended smokers.

Stating that smoking can be harmful is not political. Bringing up someone paying their health care can be political.

My last say on this, because it's getting silly, that is your perception. Any opinion that involves subjects of law can be viewed as political. (There are healthcare laws, and there are smoking laws.) I was stating my opinion, just as some have stated theirs that second hand smoke is harmful to others. It is hypocritical to call one opinion political and the other a statement. If it makes you feel better to accuse me of breaking rules, take whatever measure you feel necessary. This is America and I speak my opinions freely. This board is not so important to me that I will allow myself to be scolded for my thoughts.
Have a magical day.

I understand that and if you have a problem with board policies that would have to be brought up with webmasters. A a moderator I am here to make sure everything is going smoothly and following board policies.

Yes, really. It's psch 101. There have been no authentic studies done (on second hand smoke).

The world is full of things we've never done studies on but know to be true. It's well known that humans react badly to high-speed collisions with heavy objects; we don't actually need to test every possible shape and form of heavy object to extrapolate. Cigararette smoke contains a number of compounds that are known to negatively impact lungs. It isn't necessary to do longitudinal studies to find out if these compounds still harm lungs after periods in the open air. They do.

Well, more or less as I suspected?

There are indeed people that would just as soon see us dead, or in camps :(.

I'm very sorry for this..... to repeat: my goal is to simply find a good way to ISOLATE those that smoke from others. I get your worries.
Please? Let us go someplace AWAY from you, so everyone is happy. There are locations at MK that could do this tomorrow....
The NORTH and SOUTH Entrances of the bypass, unused during daylight hours, ISOLATED AND REMOVED from general park traffic.

If we are REMOVED from you..... please? Why do want us dead?

Please calm the rhetoric. A quick skim though of this thread shows a roughly equal, and equally small, number of ideologues on both sides of the debate, but the majority of posters seem to be pretty centrist. IMHO, you're tilting at windmills.

just wondering if anyone has heard about Magic Kingdom becoming smoke free as of 2018. I'm in the ark now and that's the rumor. I don't know if it will be just MK, all parks or if this is just a rumor.

No one is going to be able to confirm a rumor, if it comes to be we will only know when Disney announces it as policy.

When this thread started I entered a wager on how many pages it would last.....

Right. It couldn't just be ... it's a rumor for now, where the smoking locations are for your use and they are there for a reason. I think that was all covered pretty quickly. It had to disintegrate.

Last warning. If we can't stay on topic of smoking sections possibly leaving MK then this thread will be closed.

Nothing to discuss. Rumor started, can't be substantiated. Smoking sections noted and locations offered up. Since nothing to discuss ... the drama and ugliness then starts. Pointless. Black & white issue at Disney. Nothing to discuss. End of purpose for this thread.

I'm very against smoking. Cigarettes are even more harmful because of all the horrible chemicals manufacturers add in. I hate the way smoke smells. However, I'm sensitive to odors. I can't stand most people's perfume, either. There are a lot of offensive odors in the parks and smoke is probably the least invasive, especially when you're trapped in a line. I've not had anyone's smoke from the smoking sections irritate me in line. Having a couple outdoor, out of the way smoking areas shouldn't be a problem. Fireworks are a tremendous air pollutant. Huge. They fill the air with many toxic chemicals and even tiny particles. There is also pollution from all the car and bus exhaust at Disney World. So, it's not like cigarettes are the biggest source of air pollution and the biggest health risk at Disney.

Plus I don't think it is fair to smokers to ban it altogether when having a smoking area on the fringe areas works. As well, as an international tourist destination I don't think it makes sense for Disney. Many countries have not gotten to the point of banning smoking or being against it.

Just my two cents by I would be sad if they did eliminate the smoking areas (and very distressed that there are only 2 or 3 available right now!)

I personally am not a smoker yet my significant other of 6 years is a smoker. We love WDW but I don't think he would go if they eliminated smoking in the parks all together. :(

He is one of the many people I'm sure who uses smoking to help calm them while in large crowds or in unknown places, due to anxiety or other mental health reasons. I certainly agree that they should find out of the way places, but we'll see if they listen if this ends up having some truth to it.
Are you dating my husband? It is exactly the same with him. When we go to Disneyland, they have a few spots. It is hard when I am juggling all the kids while he has smoke, but worth it. He is much calmer, and easier to deal with. If Disney World completely got rid of their smoking section, it would be very difficult for us to go. I don't think they will, but it does worry me a bit.
