Smoke smell in our room at Pop

The last time we stayed at Pop, there were a few days when we had a VERY strong stench of cigarette smoke in our bathroom. It was really, really bad. I assumed someone near us was illegally smoking in their bathroom and had their fan running to draw the smoke out. I am very allergic to smoke and it was irritating. I didn't bother to call the front desk b/c I did not really know what to tell them. How would they figure out who it was to ask them to stop? So we just dealt with it since we were not in the room for very long except to sleep.

We are going back to Pop in September and I want to have a game plan this time in case it happens again. This time we are taking our 18 month old so plan on being in the room earlier in the evenings and for naps, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem and any ideas on how to solve it if it were to occur again?

Ask if you could switch rooms. It's definitely someone smoking in another room, probably with their cig near the vent so they don't set off the fire alarm.

Oh I would have lost my mind!!! Kudos to you for keeping your cool. I would say if it happens again to immediately ask for a room change.

I've heard that if someone smokes in their room on the first floor, it goes through the vents. It is a concern for us as well due to severe allergies, but fortunately it has not happened in 5 POP stays.

Should it happen again, do go directly to the front desk and ask for the manager on duty - explain the situation, the allergies...hopefully they will try to address the problem and/or offer to move you. If you prefer to move, say so up front. It would not be an unreasonable request!

Good luck!!

Plus if you report it, they may try to find out who is smoking in their bathroom. That's a big hazard.

Yes, you need to report it and if its bad enough, ask to be moved.

We smelled pot in our room at Pop several years ago! Someone, somewhere in the building smoked it every night.

We did call and report it, but they said that because so many rooms share the ventilation system, they couldn't do anything about it other than send housekeeping to us with a can of air freshener.

Definitely go to the front desk and let them know about your allergies. Disney has had no smoking in the rooms for 2 1/2 years now.:sad2: If Disney catches this, they charge a $250 cleaning fee.

That's what I figured they would say if we called them, which is why I didn't bother! Plus we loved the location of our room and didn't want to risk giving that up. We just left the bathroom door closed and ran our fan a lot. It amazes me how some people break the rules so easily and don't ever think about it affecting anyone but themselves!:sad2:

I just wonder if they ever actually charge anyone this fee. Since they claim they can't do anything about it because of the ventilation system, it doesn't sound like its something they really care to enforce.

Happened to us too. We complained but nothing happened and it continued.

Ok. so Im a smoker and i NEVER smoke on WDW property UNLESS its in the DSA, but I would of called to change rooms.

I have noticed at the parks that the NON SMOKING rule isnt really enforced. I have seen plenty of smokers smoke OUT of the DSA's, so I know they smoke in the rooms too. I just dont think Disney can enforce the rule much. :confused3
Unfortunately, its lack of responsibility in a smoker to follow the rules and that MAKES ME MAD :scared1:cause of us smokers who do follow the rules STILL get a bad rap!:headache:

Ok, so Im done preaching now...but moral of my post was....ASK TO CHANGE ROOMS!:goodvibes

Oops...deleted my post b/c I misunderstood your problem!

Same thing happened to us when on our last and final stay at Pop!

We got checked in, got our room keys, headed to the room and when we walked into our room the smell of pot was permeating into the room from the bathroom vent. We took our bags right back to the front desk and asked to be moved -- hello, not ok people!! Got to our new room and then proceeded to have 3 days of cigarette smoke wafting into our room from the vents- yuck! We called the front desk when we just couldn't take another day of being thoroughly nauseated and moved to the Beach Club - where we had no smoke or other problems for the rest of the trip. I will never stay in a value resort again!

It doesn't happen at just POP...my friend was supposed to stay in a Fort Wilderness cabin and as soon as they opened the door the stench of cigarette smoke hit them in the face. They went back to the front desk and they didn't have any where else to put them so they moved them to another resort. Now, they were staying under a cast member discount so maybe that is why they went above and beyond to move them??

The smell of ciggs and pot dont bother me so I cant help ya there but maybe you can bring a can of air freshner with you the next time around or go down to the front desk and loudly complain until they move you and if the next place stinks contuinue to complain...maybe you'll get an upgrade on the resort :)

I would have mentioned something to the front desk. Some people can't just use air freshener to blurt out the scent . I am on o2 and the air freshener with the smoke would be enough to send me packing to the ER for treatment. Just wondering though, if WDW can't tell where the smell is coming from, then how would they know what guest to charge for the cleaning fee when it can ventilate through the rooms like that? :confused3:I wonder if anyone was wrongly framed for smoking when in fact it was not them? I would be upset to be falsely accused of being the "smoker" and have a fee added to my account when it was not me who did it.:sad2:
