Oh No!!! I was thinking about the different smells of the parks and started typing a new thread....then thought no...I can't, what will Kevin say, this is diabolical, "this is worse than the underthings thread" .I won't !! but pressed the wrong button and it went.......:p

So now I am going to have to.....

I was thinking about Jurrassic park and that icy leafy smell, then when you cross over to Seuss landing....that wonderful "dolly mixtures and candy" smell, then in Universal you are hit with the popcorn smell. But I have to say the worst smell ever in my life - was when I flew over NY in a Helicopter. We climbed aboard, unlike when I flew up front in the helicopter over the Grand Canyon, this time sat at the back. I was by the right hand side window, friend on the left hand side window, another next to him and two others in the middle opposite. The pilot said room for one more then this man appeared - he was HUUUGE!! and I thought, you are never going to squeeze in here surely! He did. He climbed in and squeezed in the back between me and 2 others. But being squashed up against the window was not the worst of it - he stank! Really the worst BO you can imagine!! and he kept leaning over towards me to see out of the window errrgghhhh!!

Anyway....this thread was not meant to happen....but now it's here...if you want to contribute to the "worst" thread...don't be afraid.......:p

Oh no!! 4 people had seen the half started one....I've explained now....:p

The smell of ET always stirs up memories whenever it is a musty fall day.

Damo,
As soon as I saw this thread I thought of ET.
I love the smell of the Popcorn in Suess Landing.

I love the smell of Suess Landing too - it is such a happy smell. Also, ET is really weird - I'm not sure why it smells that way??

Hey, don't blame me for your mess ups! :p

I actually think that the smells are one of the coolest things about Universal. You can see something once and then see it again and again and again, but when that scent hits you, thats when you become nostalgic.

Some examples of signature Universal smells are the smell of gas on Jaws and Kong (there was supposed to be a banana breath quality to Kong, but I'm not sure if that was intentional or an afterthough spin). There's the foggy smell on ET, and the humid smell in Jurassic Park.

A funny story about smells and theme parks. This past July I went to San Diego with my cousin for a conference. We went to the island of Del Cornodano, where the Hotel Del is located.

We were on the hotel grouds, sitting next to some shops, when the smell or cotton candy and pasteries hit me. I turn to my cousin and say "What does it smell like right now. Don't say candy or pastires. I mean, where does it smell like?"

He sniffs for a second and replies "Disney". Talk about growing up in a theme park culture. Later, on my last trip to Disney, I realized why we weren't impressed by the Hotel Del. The Grand Floridian hotel on the Disney resort looks just like it.

Well I 'm glad I'm not the only one who smells a smell and becomes all nostaligic. and it's true Disney ALWAYS has that candy sweet smell. Popcorn always for me reminds me of Universal/IOA.

Hi damo, Tonia, Gschmerl.....I' forgot about ET...yes, it has a really musty smell - I went down into some dungeons a few months ago and it had the same musty, chilly smell. It is strange - I have always wondered how they got the smell too.

Kevin: you are so tuned in to my way of thinking at times!! ;) I forgot about Jaws and King Kong, and it's true about the "Disney" smell - even in England - walk into the "Disney Store" and you could be at Magic Kingdom - same smell!! This is absolutely true - my daughter has always liked going into the disney store - but recently she has outgrown at lot of the stuff in there, and last week she wanted to go in and she said she just wanted to smell the smell - "it reminds of disney".

Do you know....I was shocked today......went into Reading (our main shopping centre) and "Warners" has closed!!! It's our favourite store! and there isn't another one anywhere near us.

Oh Kevin by the way, I'm sure it was the hotel del we stayed in at San diego. It had flags outside and chandeliers in the lobby, big glass mirrors - I'm sure we were in Cornodano.

Great topic Selina! I am very sensitive to scents and smells. Certain scents remind me of great memories! I love the teak scent at Royal Pacific Resort! The woodsy small at E.T is distinct too!

Selina...Warners? Is that Warner Brothers store? Or something else?

(at least for me) About the popcorn smell at US/IOA...it's not just any popcorn, but caramel popcorn!

The smell of caramel popcorn reminds me of Seuss Landng and the park entrance of Universal Studios, where I smell it the most...:p

But, honestly? I never really paid attention to the smells...I've been there so much and never thought about it! I only remember the caramel popcorn because it was always so strong and my mom would want to get some (we never buy it though). :)

How about that smell when you step out of the Orlando Airport!!!!

JessicaR : yes i meant the Warner Brothers Store - we both buy alot of clothes there.

damo - you are sooo right!!

Hi fly fly.....when you go - smell the smells. Each one has it's own - there are probably more than those already said and if we were there right now and in line we would be saying - "hey! We forgot about the smell of this one!!" :D

I think it truly adds to the theming of each attraction....except for the airport thing....LOL..

The smell of the sweat coming off those Ghostbuster guys:p

:D ...........Ummmmm..........The smell of fear when the person in front of you is going to ride the "Hulk" for the first time!!

Hey fly fly....the aroma of all the underwear ...ready to be thrown!! (oooops!! ......;) )

I better go go bed now!!

One more real smell.......the smell of wet hair in that bar/cafe opposite bluto/Bilge-rat barges!

The smell of chlorine as you walk through the tunnel of water in Poseidan's Fury.

The smell of Jessica's wonderful cocktails...bringing the taste of Universal into everyone's home...:D
