SMASH thread!

That's ok. :) I want the whole soundtrack anyway, so I'll just head to town in the next day or two and pick it up. :)

I too think Derek has a Marilyn thing going on. He didn't like Rebecca until he saw her as Marilyn. Same thing with Ivy.

Derek is my favorite character. He owns that he is a slime ball. I think it also helps that he is arguably the best actor on the show. All my friends IRL who watch the show all love Derek.

.

....OWN that character, Derek....you WORK it.....

Small pet peeve as I'm listening to the soundtrack...why in the world did they include Nick Jonas' song, but left off White Baby Grand and 1001 Nights??

Ugh. I wish they would've left off that song and included one of the songs I mentioned above.

...OMG, I forgot he was on a few weeks ago!

Uma singing the same songs that Karen & Ivy sang really shows she's not a very strong singer.

So, Eileen is singing too. I guess her boyfriend will be next.

I didn't care for Sam & Karen's the rendition of "Stand." Anyone who's been so overwhelmed by some of the absolute worst things that Life can throw at at a person and they just keep coming one after another, and to hear and truly understand that sometimes all you CAN do is to just use every ounce of power and emotion and dignity you have left to just STAND through it all, knows those two have no understanding of what that song is about.

For them, it was a pretty song to sing in church. And they had a week to pull it together for the episode. Just as one shouldn't send a boy in to do a Man's job, don't have people whose worst thing that has happened to them is break a fingernail and have them sing "Stand." :sad2: It's like the difference in having Jennifer Hudson, who had her mother, brother & nephew murdered, sing it. She'd KNOW what this song is about and who this song is really for.

Here is Donnie McClurkin who wrote the song, sing it with BeBe & CeCe Winans on Oprah, a little bit after 9/11. I wept when I heard the song for the first time.

(Sorry, the sound quality isn't very good. But, you'll get they KNOW what that song is about.)

Angelica Huston sang a song written for and made famous by her Grandfather, Walter Huston. The song was first sang on Broadway in 1938.

I had no problem with Sam and Karen singing "Stand". We all have different trials and tribulations. All the characters have had issues they've had to deal with and I thought the song was fitting for all their situations.

So, who do you think put the peanuts in Uma's smoothie? I'm going with Ivy!

Did you notice that Marc Shaiman was playing the piano for Angelica Huston? And Scott Wittman was one of the patrons in the bar (the man with the grey hair and black glasses).

I wish they would stage "Bombshell" for a week or so on Broadway. I'd go! I understand it would be an expensive undertaking, but it would be interesting to see it with all the songs and costumes. Maybe it will be an extra feature on the DVD. I guess I can dream.

I think it was Ellis, thinking he was doing Ivy a favor.

I don't know if this was mentioned earlier in the thread, but Christian Borle (Tom) was nominated for a Tony last week for his role on Broadway in "Peter and the Starcatcher". :)

Hmmmm. That's an interesting theory. Ellis would have had access to that information.

Good for Christian Borle! I saw him years ago in "Spamalot."

random thoughts:

i don't think the Dev/Ivy hook-up is a believable storyline. Dev hooking up with RJ is much more believable.

Karen's "naive" look is really starting to get on my nerves.

Derek is a cad, no? "we are professionals." professional what? exactly? i still like his character since he's the only one unapologetically himself.

i was glad Tom called Julia out on blaming him. yes, he went along with bringing Michael back, but it is NOT his fault that Julia had an affair.

Michael is seriously creepy. she told you she didn't want any part of your coming there. you've already said you want to keep your family together and you reiterate this. and THEN, you try to kiss her again, in a public place? i don't feel sorry for her at all, but the last time she told him no, he bedded her anyway. he doesn't like to hear no, apparently. and he's creepy.

the ending of that musical was terrible.

Wow! That's great! I love the personal connection. :thumbsup2

I think it was definitely Ivy. I also think that if Karen gets cast, that the engagement right will suddenly show up right before she's about to perform & she finds out Dev was unfaithful. All, just so Karen blows her performance.

There is nothing redeeming abut Ivy.

I thought that grey haired guy was someone. At first, I thought Eileen was going to talk to him. he jut has a "moneyed producer" quality about him.

Getting sick of Debra Messing. Especially after this comment she said, which was talked about in this thread:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2921242

She just seems like a shrill, emotional adolescent, both in real life and as her character.
