random thoughts:

i don't think the Dev/Ivy hook-up is a believable storyline. Dev hooking up with RJ is much more believable.

Karen's "naive" look is really starting to get on my nerves.

Derek is a cad, no? "we are professionals." professional what? exactly? i still like his character since he's the only one unapologetically himself.

i was glad Tom called Julia out on blaming him. yes, he went along with bringing Michael back, but it is NOT his fault that Julia had an affair.

Michael is seriously creepy. she told you she didn't want any part of your coming there. you've already said you want to keep your family together and you reiterate this. and THEN, you try to kiss her again, in a public place? i don't feel sorry for her at all, but the last time she told him no, he bedded her anyway. he doesn't like to hear no, apparently. and he's creepy.

the ending of that musical was terrible.

I agree with everything you said.

If I would have been in the audience, I would have been like "wth was that?" It was horrible (which was probably the point). lol

I think it was definitely Ivy. I also think that if Karen gets cast, that the engagement right will suddenly show up right before she's about to perform & she finds out Dev was unfaithful. All, just so Karen blows her performance.

There is nothing redeeming abut Ivy.


I thought that grey haired guy was someone. At first, I thought Eileen was going to talk to him. he jut has a "moneyed producer" quality about him.

She just seems like a shrill, emotional adolescent, both in real life and as her character.

I was reading an article where they talked to Megan Hilty and it seems she's getting tired of Ivy and her crap, too. She said Ivy really needs to get it together.

Ever since Theresa Rebeck left the show, I've noticed a definite shift in the writing ~ and not in a good way.

Yes, I noticed the shift. when they were actually developing songs and putting together a musical, the writing was good & tight. Now, they stopped writing songs for the singers, basically rehashing what has already been done in the musical, and it has turned into a soap opera in the SETTING of the theatre world. And as everyone said, certain story lines, like Dev/Ivy, one note Julia, Michael being weirdly obsessed, just don't make sense or are not very good.

I have never seen a musical where the character commits suicide at the end. It reminds me of "The Producers" where they are looking for the worse play ever written. I once saw a musical where one of the characters dies in the first act and appears through the 2nd act as a ghost (Norbert Leo Butz in "Thou Shalt Not"), but that musical bombed, too. I wonder if Season 2 is going to be them getting the show for Broadway.

I enjoy the show mostly for the song writing. The plot lines are a little stale.

I remember when Mel Gibson was being interviewed about The Passion of the Christ. He said he was getting so much flack and criticism by the Jews when they found out that in the movie that the Jews killed Jesus.

I thought, "Well, of course, everybody knows they killed Jesus. We've known for over 2000 years." Then I thought about it and realized the Jewish people would have read the New Testament or go see JCS. So all this time, they wouldn't know about the crucifixion & all that.

Pilate was Roman, and Jesus was killed under his authority. Furthermore, Jesus's death is something that needed to happen in order for Jesus to fill his role as the savior.

The Jews know that they are accused of killing Jesus. After all, this claim has been used to justify pogroms, and genocide and other forms of Antisemitism for centuries.

I wish they would stage "Bombshell" for a week or so on Broadway. I'd go! I understand it would be an expensive undertaking, but it would be interesting to see it with all the songs and costumes. Maybe it will be an extra feature on the DVD. I guess I can dream.

Oh, and Javert commits suicide in Les Miserables.

Well, it had to do with a Broadway show, like Smash. And people were actually chatting on this thread a little while before, so I figured they'd still be around. It made sense in my befuddled brain.

i will say that i've seen none of the mentioned Broadway musicals/plays that were mentioned (okay, i've seen the MOVIE Sweeney Todd because--Johnny Depp). were they generally darker in nature? Smash was so upbeat and cheerful and then... she dies. i think that may be part of it. it was a jolting ending.

i've seen youtube videos of Megan Hilty as Glinda from Wicked--so good.

if the previews are true, it looks like Ivy. Karen has no curves and the shots of Marilyn show curves. of course, they could be complete red herrings.
