Special Beta Terms
The SmallWorlds beta test is an opportunity to invite people in to help us test SmallWorlds before we officially launch. This gives you the opportunity to take a sneak peak at what is to come, and gives us the opportunity to make sure that SmallWorlds is stable and the features are balanced and well received.

Being in its beta test phase means that we will need to change the service from time to time in order to fix problems and implement new features. While we will try our best to avoid any major disruption, the following may be unavoidable:

We may need to completely reset the world. This would mean removing your avatars and/or spaces (rooms).
We may need to reset tournaments and competition ladders.
We may need to reset other aspects of SmallWorlds, including experience, levels etc.
At the end of the beta test phase we will need to completely reset the world, meaning:

All accounts will be reset back to a starting state, including account balances etc.
All avatar spaces (rooms) will be deleted. All room bookmarks will also be deleted.
All competitions, ladders, avatar experience and other such data will be reset.
However, as a reward for being one of our beta testers, we will:

Let you keep your avatars, their names, and their friend lists.
We will give our beta testers a special reward, including additional starting tokens for setting your space (room) back up.
Thank you for your participation in the SmallWorlds beta testing. We will always do everything in our power to ensure your SmallWorlds experience is as enjoyable as possible.

There is was feeling sorry for myself last night when I decided to open up this thread that was getting so much traffic.

Out of curiosity I decided to give this game a shot and by far it has been the best experience in online games for me so far and I can't wait to play some more. And I just love the name - Smallworlds = Small World... They had me with the name.

I was only on for a little bit last night and ran into very familiar names which made it that much better. I love the ability to have a pet - that rocks!

I'm suffering from a split personality disorder. I made the top avatar Noelle LaBelle first but I don't really like the freckles. Noelle LeBelle was next. I would have chosen this one first but I didn't know that you could get rid of the glasses. I thought I liked the second one better but the more I look at her, the more she looks like a nork (my daughter's term for cross between a nerd and a dork). So, what do you think...

a) love the first one
b) love the second one
c) nice cat
d) you need a life, go outside and play

Any opinions on my post? I guess I could make another one on the same account. These are on two different accounts. Any suggestions for a last name for Noelle?

I like the first one. You know you can go back and change the freckles if you want, right?
As for a last name, you could make it "VMK" like I've seen some others here do. Makes it really easy for past players to search for you. (Wish I had thought of that when I signed up; I'm Alice Blue but I really don't want to start all over again with another character.)

Anyone else trained their pets yet? My kitty can 'stay' 'follow' 'come here' and 'beg' woot!

Mine too! My cat Lilykins (not a reference to anyone from VMK, by the way ) is just so darn cute.

Wow, Aengus, you were able to do that on your graffiti wall? @_@ I'm amazed; I could barely write something legibly on mine.

So in this game can you play solo (i.e. not have a huge friends list, or no friends at all), and still be able to do all the things available? It said something like Popular Status (something like that), and the more popular you were, the more things you could do?

I'm looking for a game where I can play solo, and not have to do any PvP games. I want to be able to collect things, and do missions on my own. Is this game like that?

I also was hoping I could do a lot without having to play games. From what I've seen so far, the only way to get "tokens" that can be spent on things for your room is by completing the various missions that are available to you from the profile panel. There are games missions as well as social ones; I get the impression we are all being gently nudged to not just hole up in our rooms . You could choose to do only the non-social/game ones, but your tokens aren't going to go very far. Keep in mind this is only beta though; who knows what the final system will be like when they start over.

For me, this is the SmallWorlds version of luring me with ice so I'd learn how to play Pirates in VMK.

I am Dream Dazzle on Smallworlds. I only made my avatar and my puppy (Lola) but didin't really check out the game much, because I was watching MY RED WINGS WIN THE STANLEY CUP but what I did see looks really cool..I do have two questions,(I'm sure I will have more later) how do I train my puppy, and can I change the way I look without losing Dream Dazzle?

just checking in on the subject...

I found an interesting article that gives some insight into the design and the direction they plan to go.

As always questions surround what will happen after beta and what about the clause saying some parts may be for a cost. IMO this article tells a lot about the design of these games and the complications with making them work as well as cost involved.

Obviously not getting to attached to your stuff is a good idea because it may go bye bye a few times, but the indication is they will give beta participants some "compensation" for helping and for that inconvenience.

From what I was able to see in my short visit it seems to have the most promise atm in terms of ease of use graphics, games and appeal to different friends as we continue to search for an alternative to our past game and compare it to that experience. I find this game has some things we wanted in VMK but it also lacks some things that we were looking for in a family game. It does appear to have security features that can be enabled but are at the command of the user (not parental that I am aware) also it requires action on each individual person you want to block from access to you I believe. More playing will tell. It is not a crowded world with a lot of trouble makers yet - difficult to say what would occur with 40,000 - 100,000 like Gaia encounters at any given time - moderation there is almost non-existance in some areas.

So I have this mission that wants me to make a pet dog, name it Smoggo or Bigglesworth, take it to the spa and get someone to pet it. So I took Gracie to the spa and I saw Laurabearz there. She petted Gracie but the mission didn't advance.

So I'm guessing that I really have to make a new dog with the name Smoggo or Bigglesworth. Can I do that without deleting Gracie? He just learned how to beg!

Mine's not very creative. Plus, I gave Pink "contributor" permissions in my room and she vandalized it! I fixed it though. People please be careful who you let be a contributor in your room.

Okay, this is weird. I'm doing the first mission which is a tutorial. I have 2
characters on 1 account.

The 1st character is the one I screwed up. It rewards 10 tokens and 100 xp
The 2nd character is the one I started fresh on and it only rewards me 100 xp
with no tokens.

Also I recall leaving to do the quest later on the character I screwed up on,
and I recall it the prize used to be 30 tokens. Only to lower to 10 later.

Why are the prizes different all the time? Thanks

You can't complete this mission without deleting your present pet and starting over.....grrr.
