My mom, my daughter and I went to WDW 2 years ago this May. We've been wanting to go back ever since. I fooled around with planning one here and there, even had one booked for my husband, daughter and I last August, but had to cancel it.
I seriously thought about going this October (for my mom's and my birthdays) or early January, but my daughter was in the Nutcracker, and had rehearsals all fall, and January is meet season (gymnastics) so it was a no go.

Last week I started thinking "boy I sure wish, I'd planned a May trip back in December" That same day my mom called me to ask if I could look up deals because she really thought we should go again. Why of course I can!:cool1:

So that's how we ended up booking.

The details:
April 28- May 5th, 2012
Pop Century Resort
Update 3/27- We are now staying at Coronado Springs

Cast:
Me, Micah. 30 something mom, small business owner, and caretaker to husband, Bjorn who has a degenerative mobility disorder. His mind still works fine (he is a former biology professor) but he can't always get around so well. We live in Pittsburgh.
Mom to-

Catherine, age 7, who will turn 8 right before we leave (need to find out if we are 'allowed to celebrate her birthday there, ala button) Second grader, competitive gymnast, and dancer. She works hard. She trains and/or dances every day of the week, often staying late for open gym. She does very well in school, and loves to read. We live on the east coast and all our relatives live on the West coast (or nearby). She is often very lonely for her grandparents and cousins

Gran-daughter to-

Winifred, age 'grandma' ;) Retired school teacher, she enjoys painting, collecting dolls, sewing and jewelry making. Wife to Earl, a retired architect. They live in Wyoming. Her favorite ride was It's a Small World (because of the dolls?) and 2 years ago she made Catherine the best Captain Hook costume ever for Halloween, (see above)

Here we three are with some friends

Done so far:
Booked airfare for both parties
Booked room

Need to do:
Book Dining
Shop
get permission from school*
figure out how to link chapters
find out if we can still us my restruants.com vouchers

* So I looked in our school manual and it said that trips should be limited to 10 days a year and extended trips need principal approval, so I wrote a letter reqyuesting just that ( since she missed 1 day for the Nutcracker in December and will miss this Friday for a gymnastics meet), didn't hear back, and have since heard from others that they've only asked the teacher for missed worked and that's that. Sorry I was trying to follow the rules! this is a new school this year for us!

Catherine is also in a spring show for the ballet. When I ran it by the directer we might miss one Saturday (when rehearsals are) she said "we should rethink our participation" Whoa!:scared1: Other people don't seem to get that when THEY ask for days off, I know because my friend asked if her daughter could miss dress rehearsal (much worse than miss reg practice) and she got smiles and tulips blown at her :confused3 I would say, hey fine count her out. (I am this close to being DONE with this studio, 'nother story) After all she still has the spring Gymnastics show, plus her other dance school's rectal in June. But Catherine loves it there. So I worked it out that we leave Saturday AFTER her rehearsals (10 am to 3:30) Flight leaves at 8, then fly back Saturday morning (Plane arrives at 9) in time for her 10:30 rehearsal. :rolleyes1

Dining.....

Last time we had the dining plan. We are not doing that this time; but there is some dining we want to do.

Mom wants to go back to two places...Cinderella's Royal Table and The Crystal Palace. I told her about Akershus as a possible alternative to CRT, and she is thinking about it.
In addition, her doctor just told her not to eat wheat anymore. So we will have to work with that. She also does not/cannot eat: hot peppers, cilantro, deli meat, 'unusual' cheeses or under-cooked food.

Catherine claims she doesn't remember much about what she ate at WDW when she was 6. She is a plain eater, doesn't care for seasoning or sauces. She like the basics: plain steak, plain chicken, plain ham, plain broccoli, plain fruit. You get the idea. She loves any type of milk.

I am the most adventurous eater. I will eat anything, so dining isn't really important to me. It is to mom, so I am going to plan it mostly around her.

Possibilities
CRT or Akershus
CP
Garden Grove*
Crossroads at House of Blues*
Fantasmic Package (Mama Melrose? Mom could get the steak)
T-Rex (being an early elementary teacher from Wyoming :teacher:, mom loves dinos, Catherine likes them to, although she doesn't love them)

*I have a voucher:laughing:

Update 3/15

We now have 2 ADRs
4/30 Rose and Crown Dinner
5/1 Crystal Palace Breakfast

I am hesitant to make any more because since I've last updated, my mother's eating situation has gotten worse. Her doctor has her on a very strict diet with no bad stuff and almost no carbs (she is pre-diabetic with no gall bladder)

Update 3/27

We have Wishes Desert Party Adrs 5/2

***Update 4/19 Dining is set!***

Sun - House of Blues Restaurant in Downtown Disney West Side-Dinner
Mon- Rose & Crown Pub & Dining Room- Illuminations
Tues- No ADRs

Joining in! You will be there over MY birthday, so I hope that you have a WONDERFUL trip! :rotfl:

YES, you can celebrate ANYTHING at any time there. They don't ask for any proof of birthdays or weddings or anything. :thumbsup2

My YDD was ALMOST a Catherine! :) I had picked out that as a name, when Prince William went and proposed to Kate Middleton- whose name is actually CATHERINE. I was due around the time of the wedding, so we changed our name to Catrina. :goodvibes

I'm trying to decide about CRT vs. Akershus as well! :confused3

Hi and Welcome Christen! Happy Birthday to you during our trip lol.

I like the name Catrina as well. I too think it is curious that Kate is a 'C'atherine.

Good luck with your CRT/Akershus dilemma;) and thanks for the celebration info! We'll be sure to get her a button!

Hi & yay for going back! I just got news I get to go back in October! :goodvibes

Here is how you do chapter links... on each post in the top right had corner there is a #1 (of whatever number post it us) Click on that and it will bring you to a new page with just that post. Copy the url (or the entire web page in the bar up top) come back to edit your section you have left open for chapter links and select the little green earth near the fonts and colors and paste into the box that opens (a http:// will be highlighted, paste over it) and then it will bring you back to your edited post and have a highlighted section that you can change the name of the link!

I hope that makes sense! :lmao:

Thank you! I knew you had to do that thing where there was only one post per page, but I couldn't remember how to do it :)
Enjoy your trip as well!

Just a little update, wdw and life.

We just got back from our last gymnastics competition this year and it went well. Catherine got a 9.05 on beam. Arnold Schwarzenegger was there- the meet took place at the fitness expo that bears his name. He came to the opening ceremonies and had some very nice and intuitive things to say about gymnasts

Well back to wdw-- my mom called and she's re-injured her knee. Last time we went she was in considerable pain but did not tell me and trekked on. But I don't think she could do that again. So we will wait and see..two months to go. If she doesn't heal we will just have to take it slow
She is going to ask my oldest brother Arthur tonight if he wants to come with us. My guess is no, but we are going to ask! Arthur is great fun! Well not really. He's rather, hmmm, dull. But he has a heart of gold. And sometimes he actually smiles. Hmm now that I think about it, one of the best things about him is sometimes, sometimes he is very funny and makes jokes. But he never uses sarcasm. I find that refreshing.

Vacation Mail!

Catherine outgrew her old Keen Sandals (they lasted 3 years) so time for new ones! These were $20 on 6pm.com. I am cheap! Not my first choice in color but: cheap! cheap! cheap! They are metallic yellow

I made her try them on before school today. A bit big, but they must be comfortable because she wanted to wear them to school! Well it's PE day, so nope sorry, kid!

Catherine has very high arches and Keens just fit her well.

more vacation mail!..sorta

I got our vacation packet in the mail today! Our ME tickets weren't in it for some reason I thought they would be but now I think I remember those come separately...

I also got my sandals from 6pm.com

Noat Rachel

and

Born Talca

I am only going to keep 1. I think and it will be the Noats, even though Bjorn and Catherine like the Borns better (because they are shiny I think) but the Noats are so comfy!

Still need to but tennis shoes for both Catherine and me. Plus I want a new pair of Keens! Just need a sale!

Update 3/27

Mom ordered FOUR PAIRS of Asics Kayanos (a stability shoe) on sale...well she had me buy them because she doesn't know how to hunt for deals. She will only keep 2 of them, but she wants to trade off. She wants me to buy a pair too (its a good deal.. 20% off at Foot locker, last years model plus 7% back at ebates) BUT I think I am more of an under-pronator and will need a neutral shoe li the Asics Nimbus or Cumulus (neutral cushioning shoe). They are cheap in kids size, but I don't know if they are same quality?
