In your opinion, when is the best time to go to Disney World, based on smallest crowds?

Tough call anymore. The traditional times have begun to become more and more popular.

January (mid) is still pretty slow though. Also, mid September to October (before the start of the Food and Wine Festival) can be a little slow. The weather then is beautiful too, whereas in January you can run into some pretty cold temps.

2nd week in January, avoiding MLK day, was NO CROWDS.

The old best time of the 2 weeks after Thanksgiving seems to no longer be true. We had some real crowds during this time this year. Still not real long lines, but Januray we had almost no lines.

mid-September, most people don't want to take their kids out the first few weeks of school and January right after New Year's.

The last week in September last year was great, especially if you prefer to be there when it's hot (and I do). It was 85-90 every day with they daily thunderstorm at 3-ish. One day we had some nasty rain for several hours starting about 2 - it was great!!! Lines were exactly 0 minutes for everything including Space Mountain for the rest of the day.

I will certainly go in September again.

This year we're going Jan 29-Feb 3 (another slow time) but Sept is my preference.

I have been past 5 years right after Thanksgiving, very low crowds, great weather, value rates, decorations. Hard to beat that combo.

We started going in early January since the DD went to college and could only go during Christmas break. Since that trip and now with the DS in college too, we go in early January and LOVE IT. We prefer the smallest crowds that we have ever experienced and there's something great about no let-down after the holidays because now WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD.:bounce:

Another vote for mid January.
When our kids were younger and we could pull them out of school with no problem, this was an IDEAL time. Don't count on the water parks; and the weather can be "cool", but what a wonderful time to explore all the nuances of the Parks without the crowds. Aaaahhhhh, if only we could do it now, but too many school and sports activities going on.

We can't wait until the kiddies are in college and then get on that schedule again!!

...people about how small the crowds are in January!! More and More are coming!!;) ;)

Early-Mid Jan gets our vote ...last week Sept-Early Oct is great for low crowds as well, but very humid...but who cares, I'd rather be *glowing* at WDW than anywhere else!!:sunny:

September is least crowded for us. But we PREFER very early February before Pres. day crowds. Perfect weather in Feb.

But our all time least crowded and possibly best ever day was the day after a tropical storm in Sept. That morning it was still pouring, so we did a VERY crowded character breakfast in the hotel. As everyone else went back to the room, we pulled on panchos and headed to the AK - animals LOVE rain. A half mile before the parking lot, the rain stopped and turned to a very light, cool mist. We stayed for about 4 or 5 hours. The safari vehicles had to stop to let animals get out of the road several times. The tigers at the ruins were jumping and playing like a 500lb version of our house cat. When we left, they had only used 5 rows of parking for the entire day - that's 5 single rows, or 2 1/2 of the double parked rows. There were a hundred times as many cars in the cast member parking.

Down Side - the rest of the September trip was normal low crowds (not extremely low) with MUCH HIGHER THAN NORMAL HUMIDITY.

We might be going the 1st week in Feb this year depending on what my pregnant DW feels like doing.
