If memory serves me correctly, I remember hearing as a kid at WDW that all the money laying at the bottom of It's a Small World is donated to children's fund's of some sort. Does anyone know? Just curious.

I don't know the answer to this. But I have heard that too. I've also heard that all the money collected from everywhere in the parks, that people throw into the water or whatever, goes to charity. And there's a whole lot of it!

I heard that much of the money that they retrieve from the bottom of the various places that people throw money is usally too decayed to be used as currency, but the money that has not been destroyed is then donated to charity.

I hope I am wrong and all of it goes to charity. :thumbsup2

I don't think the coins decay. That is a good question though. Would a CM at the ride have any clue?

Want an even more magical way to make a donation? As you face the Castle walk along the path to the right (not the one that goes directly into the castle...the one that skirts the rose garden). There is a small pathway on your left as you get closer to the castle, right where Belle's Storytime is held. Walk toward the castle on that path and you'll see a wishing well. When you toss a coin in to make your wish you will be making other children's wishes come true. All of that money is donated to children's charities.

:bitelip: I had no clue about the SW$ going to charity :confused3 Or that there was a well. I used to give dd14 a roll of pennies to throw in while on SW when she was younger. She absolutely loved throwing the coins in by all of the different international dolls  A couple of times, however, other ppl in the boat made comments to each other (LOUDLY) about how rude we were being, making me feel like a world class donkey :worried: If this $ goes toi charity, I will let my dd2 have the coins, and tell the complainers to kiss my shiny hiney at their soonest convenience :woohoo:

An interesting statistic:
In 2005, Disney contributed more than $190 million in cash, in-kind support and public service air time globally.

We happened upon this on one of our trips. Very cute little well, and out of the way. We dropped all the coins we could find in!

This one made me curious, so I did some searching.

My wife and I just finished our 7th trip to WDW since 2002. Since this was our first trip since It's a Small World re-opened, I had to drag her through this masterpiece. On our way out we both noticed that quite a few guests have stopped and made a wish by throwing coins into the ride pool. We were interested to find out who benefits from all those Disney dreams. Thanks!

Hi Curt!

Here it comes...my favorite answer...ready? It depends. ;-) It depends on where the wishes are made and the coins are dropped.

The coins dropped into Cinderella's Wishing Well in the Magic Kingdom go to charity. All other coins eventually collected from waterways, ponds, moats, fountains and rides are usually too deteriorated to use as currency by the time they're fished out of the water.

I remember when we were at Wilderness Lodge, there was a Cast member fishing the money out of the artificial stream that leads towards the pool. He told us that all money recovered from that water was donated to charity.
