Small kids and MGM

Do young kids enjoy MGM?

I've made a list of what we'd like to see when we're there (we're focusing on the kids this trip 8,6 &4) and it's pretty short.

I have:

Indiana Jones
Honey I Shrunk the Kids
Playhouse Disney Live
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Beauty and the Beast
Als Toy Barn to see Buzz, Woody, etc.

I have put MGM on a day where we'll head out at about 3/4pm and then go to another park in the evening (probably Epcot).

Is there something I'm missing that kids enjoy? I didn't realize until I put my list on paper that there wasn't much there I think the kids will like. They've never seen the Millionaire show and I'm sure wouldn't enjoy sitting there (although dh and I would!)

How much time do kids generally spend in Honey I shrunk the kids? Are there other characters we're going to be able to see here that we may not see as easily in other parks?

I have been to MGM but on New Years Eve many years ago and all I remember was the evening entertainment and the crowds!

I don't want to leave out a 'must see' for kids.

What restaurant best appeals to kids there for lunch?

The Prime Time 50's cafe is lots of fun! and good food...just make sure you eat it all

I take it your kids don't like thrill rides?

If you have time you might want to give Millionaire a try. The kids I've seen in there seem to enjoy it as much as anyone because they get to push their own buttons. I've seen very young kids actually get in the hot seat - because they randomly put in the first fastest finger answers, happened to be right and were fast.

My then 8 and 6 year old nieces LOVED Prime Time because thier Daddy - who was their "big brother" at the time kept getting in trouble with "Mom". If you get into the spirit of it your kids will probably love it as well.

One of the reasons my 8yr old DD loves MGM is because you see more obscure characters. MGM is the only place we have seen many of the Villans, the Army Men from Toy Story as well as Woody and Jessie.

Just as an FYI, my DD who was 8 on our last trip, rode RNR EIGHT times in one day! And you didn't list MuppetVision 3-D! Or the Stars and Motor Cars parade! How about FANTASMIC? Try having your eight year old (and maybe the 6 year old) read the Birnbaum's "WDW for Kids" book. They may have more input after that....................P

My then 5 year old dd loved TOT! All three of the little ones loved Muppets and Sci-Fi Theatre. They really liked Fantasmic even though a lot of people warned that it might scare them. Go figure 4 year old dd cried all the way through the Snow White ride in Fantasyland and yet loved Fantasmic!

What about The Great Movie Ride? I bet the kids would like that one(mine do). You can do it twice- one time pick one side of the velvet rope and next go to the other side. Each side show a different scene during the ride - ganster vs cowboy.

I love MGM and my children do too.

You need to make sure to go to the place on Mickey Avenue where Sorcerror Mickey hangs out. there is hardly any lines if any and he looks really cute.
Don't know when you are going put on Star wars weekends Mickey is then wearing a Jedi outfit and is really cute too.
Lilo and Stitch are in behind where the animation tour ends and they do a meet and greet.

Thanks for all the ideas, you've given me lots to think about.

Muppets....my kids don't really know them. I could make them sit and watch some Muppet movies in advance though.

Roller Coasters.....they like them, just not to go upside down

ToT....no way! My 2 younger ones don't really like the feeling they get in elevators, so this one is totally out, lol.

I may indeed try the Who wants to be a Millionaire game if the kids get to push buttons too they may like that, and I know my dh will get far in the game. Thanks

You don't really need to know the Muppets to think that show is hysterical. Are you sure they haven't seen Kermit on Sesame Street, though?

My son liked Star Tours when he was 4, 6 and 8. It is a very mild thrill ride.

Our public library has Best of the Muppet Show videos so you don't have to sit through an entire movie. Of the full length feature films, our 4 year old likes The Muppet Movie and Muppet in Space, which has lots of fun disco music.

Muppetvision is a good one to go to if you're unsure how the younger kids will react to Tough to Be a Bug and Honey I Shrunk the Audience.

My 4 year old didn't do well in Millionaire, but he is what's called "a high spirited child," or kind of hyper. The parade is fun and my kids liked Pizza Planet with the video games and all the Toy Story statues.

Definitely check out Fantasmic!

The Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground was closed two weeks ago when we were there...for reconstruction, I think. I don't know if it is open now or not.
Millionaire is great! It is just like being in a real studio. The kids might enjoy it b/c it looks like they are on T.V.

Don't forget the parade. This is my son's favorite parade, a lot of interaction!!!
And this is the only park where my son can find one of his very favorite characters....Hercules!!!!!!

Star Tours is very high up my son's list too!

Btw--he is 4 yrs old.

Oh my son also enjoys the Muppets. BTW--he never saw a Muppet movie before he saw Muppets 3D & he still loved the movie.

Also this is the park where you can meet Mike & Sulley from Monsters Inc.

Fantasmic is a great evening show, if you can stay that late!!!

I think it depends on the kid. My DS, who was 5 at the time, loved the Studios. My DD, who was 3 and 1/2 was bored by lunch time and wanted to go back to the pool. So, she took off with Mom and DS and I stayed until after the parade.

You could go to MGM in later in the afternoon instead of the morning. That way you could catch the parade and Fantasmic if you are interested. A book I read said that crowds thin out around 3 or 4 since it doesn't take a full day to do MGM. Backlot Express is an option for lunch. It's counter service, but you can eat inside in the AC. The best part about it is that kids meals come in a little lunchbox. That was one of my daughter's favorite souvenirs from our last trip. She keeps all her little Mickey guys in it.
