Small Irritants

When my younger sister comes in the house and takes her shoes off, leaving them in the MIDDLE OF THE ROOM. I get not everyone will take off their shoes and neatly place them on the shoe rack, but isn’t it just common sense to at least kick them out of the way or over in a corner?? Something? Bueller? Why leave them in the dead center of the room? Or worse - right in the doorway where the next person to come in will immediately trip on them.

Similar to that, some older women who bring their useless retired husbands along to clog the aisles and get in the way.

Well, my MIL takes her DH along to the grocery store because he is mentally not able to be home alone anymore. If she didn't bring him along, she would have to pay someone to watch him while she grocery shops. I'm sure he clogs the aisles, but I'm not sure making her pay a caregiver is a better answer. He does need to get out of the house sometimes too.

My small irritant is people stopping in THE MOST NARROW spot in an area. I swear if there is one little display in the middle of a grocery aisle, making the aisle narrower just in that one spot, there will inevitably be someone with their cart parked right next to it. No one else anywhere in the aisle, but that person needed to stop RIGHT THERE so now no one can pass. It never fails, people congregate in the narrowest spot available, even when they could move 2-3 feet in any direction and NOT be in the way...

Yes! I wish I was bold enough to ask someone why they chose to stand in the way when they could move 2 steps over and be out of the way.

Interesting, it looks to be true, but appears to only be an issue if there is an accident. I have never seen anyone run on the sidewalk, and there are lots of runners here, it would be like riding a bike on a sidewalk (also illegal). My town is hundreds of years old, homeowner maintained sidewalks with lots of mature trees, running would be very unsafe.
Often I see runners on roads when they are asphalt-which I understand is easier on joints. We do have 'trail' paths meaning they are asphalt ones and are wider than a normal sidewalk that can be used for runners, even cyclists.

That said most often in my neighborhood, and it's an issue with many not just runners, are people on the street, especially when a sidewalk is right there, but they are not facing traffic. Irks me to no end because it's unsafe. Part of me gets why people choose to walk on the road people our neighborhood is still under construction and certain parts of streets don't have sidewalks in spots here and there as it's an empty lot without a house there yet but all too often the people on the street aren't aware of their surroundings.

FWIW when I lived in my rental house the streets in the neighborhood were all concrete and I really didn't see runners there on the road.

Riding a bike on a sidewalk isn't illegal in all places. There's no state law prohibiting it in my state, instead certain cities have either laws or ordinances against it. The caveat is that if a bike opts to use the road vs the sidewalk they must abide by the road rules just like a vehicle does. No city on my side of the state line in my metro prohibit it with exception to one very small city. That said there's been a lot of bike lanes on the road added over the years so that should help curb the number of bikes on certain sidewalks.

I live in Buffalo, NY where last call is 4 AM. It sort of screws up my expectations when I go someplace advertised as "crazy nightlife" or "all dance night party!". Disney, cruise ships, resorts, are pretty lame for nightlife. They are trying to shut down at midnight or 1 AM. That is when you start a party, not end a party.

5 AM is snack time, 6 AM is after-party. 10 AM wake up call to start all over again.

I was on a cruise to the Bahamas and they pulled this "Every Night is New Year's Eve!" crap. Every area of the ship was closed by 12:15 AM. What the heck? I actually had the best time after 1 AM. The crew I ran into were completely baffled by the concept of 4 AM last call. I managed to score a couple of private tours at 2 in the morning. Probably because the crew was bored and sleepy and needed someone to talk to. Nothing extraordinary, but I was able to see the dining rooms at night, stage areas, see how they got newspapers and mail to people, hear cool stories about the library, chapel and locations. It was cool.

Most recently it's been a building annoyance to my nextdoor neighbors. We have a good relationship with them so it's nothing like that it's just they are always coming and going from their house. Lots of opening and closing of car doors. Don't know why but it's gotten annoying over time.

The grocery store has been brought up a few times in the thread so I'd say my annoyance there would be people who don't keep spacial awareness of their shopping cart

I'm getting exhausted just reading your comment lol

Everything people do at the airport and on airplanes.

-On Southwest, why do people line up to get on the plane way before they announce boarding? I've never been a flight where this doesn't happen. Also, if you are in the B or C group why do you start lining up when they call the A group? This drives me nuts. There was a woman on our last flight that did that, I think she thought she could squeeze in with the A's and no one would notice. I honestly sometimes wish that if you boarded out of order on a SW flight, bells and whistles went off when they scanned your boarding pass.

-Also on Southwest, when a family has 1 person purchase the Early Bird so they can board early and then that person saves spots for everyone else that gets on later. They better head to the back of the plane, because if I see an empty pair of seats I'm sitting there.

-When people take off their shoes on the plane. Ok, I admit, I did this last flight. But I had been on my feet for 10 hours and my shoes were killing me. I made sure they didn't stink, and I kept them on top of my shoes underneath the seat in front of me.

-When the plane lands, and 95% of the people immediately jump to their feet only to stand there in the aisle or uncomfortably ducking under the overhead bins and wait 10 minutes for the door to open. I laugh at this every time because you'd think people would eventually learn that getting off the plane doesn't happen instantly, you have to wait for the door to open which takes awhile and then you have to wait for the people in front of you to leave. Just relax for a minute and you'll get off the plane in the same exact amount of time. I stand up because I am sick of sitting down and would like to stretch my legs.

-The one that drives me absolutely crazy because I feel like the only person in the world that doesn't do this, is standing right up against the baggage carousel waiting for luggage. There's only so much space around the carousel and it inevitably gets filled up by all the people that line up against it. Now there are people that either can't see if there bag is ready to be picked up or they do see it and can't get to it because people are standing there. Even worse is the family of 5 that all stand up there together, while dad grabs each bag as they come, setting the bag down and waiting for the next one, taking up even more space like they are the only people on the flight.

If everyone just took a couple steps back, everyone could still see the carousel. When you see your bag come around you walk up, grab it, then leave. You aren't saving any time by guarding a spot at the carousel. Sitting on the carousel isn't going to make your bag come any faster. I don't know if this is selfishness and everyone feeling like they need to be first all the time or if I'm the crazy one here? 100% agree with you. I wish baggage claim had a barricade that you couldn't cross until you saw your bag. So annoying. I'll "accidentally" hit you with my suitcase if you don't move when I'm obviously trying to grab my bag.

When the elevator door opens and you go to get off, but someone's waiting to get on standing right at the threshold blocking your way! OMG yes! Cruises are the worst with this, and I will say "You'll get on a lot faster if you let us all off first" Or people who are on the floor furthest from where we are, but insist on standing in the front of the elevator so everyone getting off has to squeeze past them. If my floor is far away, I go directly to the back of the elevator.

ETA: Or subway, or bus...

For the past few years, the way DH eats yogurt. Every evening he has to have a thing of yogurt. First off, he takes bites so teeny tiny that I have offered him a baby spoon numerous times. And the noises he makes when eating yogurt, it's like lip smacking or something, I don't know, but my blood just starts to boil! I stick my earbuds in and turn anything up as loud as possible to drown out the sound. Ugh, prretty sure he just got up to go get his yogurt.

People who ride your bumper, especially when they could just pass. Um, I don't get intimated so I am not going to go faster.

People who park by me:
I will purposely park away from other cars because people are stupid. So I will park far away and someone will park right next to me or close.
My car is antisocial lol.

At stores: how do you not keep track of how much you are spending ten have to out stuff back or say you need to get money out of atm?

People at the drive thru do you really need to stop and look at menu board for like minutes? Have you never been to this place before?

Where were you 30 years when I could handle that kind of schedule? 🥳

My (new) Microwave beeps 3 times when something is done and KEEPS ON BEEPING UNTIL YOU TAKE IT OUT. And I mean KEEPS ON BEEPING An insane annoying ridiculously loud beeping. Who in the world CARES if my soup is hot and I have to instantly take it out! It can't burn! It stopped heating!!

I would more understand an oven baking but this is a microwave! I googled how to shut the thing up and it involves taking off the panel and fooling around with (to me) looks like something important so as of now, it will continue to drive me nuts.

Love my DH and I don’t know why this bothers me so much.
When he watches TV he picks at stray hairs on his chin. I cannot stand it and always tell him to stop.
I have even tried sitting strategically in the living room so I don’t see it but I can feel him doing it behind me.
I’m a low maintenance person but for some reason I just can’t stand it.

When no car is coming behind me but you still pull out in front of me going 3 miles an hour
and when my microwave informs me every 30 seconds my food I just heated up is done. Yes I know microwave.
Sorry Kitty 34.....I missed your post and posted the exact same thing about the microwave. Just curious. Is your microwave Frigidaire by any chance? I would like to get hold of the engineer who designed the non stop beeping.
