Slow Canon camera?

I remember reading something about a Canon camera being rather slow shot-to-shot, but I can't recall the style information.

I'd like to start looking around for an upgrade, but definitely do not want a slower camera.

Do any of you recall which Canon it was? Thanks!

There are way too many camera models around to determine that. Also, new models are introduced all the time, so the problem model is likely discontinued now. You are best to narrow your search down to a handful of models that you like and then go looking at reviews.

I thought it was all of them!! :rotfl:

Oooohh.... That's a low blow.

But to the op; what camera are you trying to upgrade from????

I have a few Canon p&s cameras right now. My favorite is the A570is. I also have a sd1200is, but I'm really disappointed in the photos it takes, so it will probably be handed down to my 10-year old niece soon.

I've seen (and admired) your pics on the cruise board...what camera do you use? Your photos are incredible!!

Hmmm...I don't know which Canon was mentioned. However, if you're looking to upgrade, the Canon T1i can shoot photos at 3.4 frames per second (fps). The Canon T2i is the newest Canon Rebel DSLR and was just recently announced. It can go as fast as 3.7 fps.

I have the Canon 40D, which can shoot at 5 fps. I, personally, find this fast enough for my needs.

However, if you still need faster, the Canon 7D can do 8 fps! If you need even faster than that, you're getting into the pro-level speed, where you can do 10 fps with the new Canon 1D Mark IV.

Was this what you were looking for? :confused3

I am about 99.9% sure the OP wants a p&s and not a DSLR since there is not a DSLR around that can be accused of being slow.

I have had several versions of the Canon Rebel: Whatever came out in 04 (???), the XT, the Xti, and now the Xsi.

I do recall with the first couple that it was kind of slow. After taking 10 or 15 shots,, it would "busy" up while those files were written to the card. During that time, you couldn't take any additional shots. Once I moved up to the Xti, and now the Xsi, the problem disappeared. I noticed a remarkable difference moving from Xt to Xti.

So I'd say whatever you saw was dated info.

Thanks for the compliments!!!! I use a Canon Rebel T1i. I don't know if you're trying to get a dslr or not; but like other posters have said, most newer models are not on the slow side.

As far as slowness from shot-to-shot; do you mean shooting in continuous mode, or the camera just being slow to focus when you're going for somewhat quick pictures???? I remember having a p&s a few years ago (might've been a Nikon though) that was slow to focus. So quick shooting from one subject to another was out of the question.

Just general shooting, not in continuous mode. It's probably time for me to upgrade to a dslr anyway. I'm getting frustrated with the p&s cameras missing the great shots.

Thanks again for this information (and for posting all of your DCL pics!!).

Can you turn off the face recognition and red-eye prevention? This might speed up the camera.

Also for subjects more than 25 feet away, try setting infinity lock focus.

Thanks for the suggestions, but you may as well be speaking another language :rotfl:. I don't even think my camera has anything called "infinity lock focus".
