Slow around here?

I don’t come around too much anymore, but it seems like the volume is way way down on these forums. Is there something going on that I am not aware of?

Seems like there used to be a good bit more volume of post and detailed discussions on pertinent topics before.

Are you referring to the Community Board specifically? Seems about the same if you ask me -but then again they call me Captain Oblivious....

No in general the entire board. Volume seems a good bit down.

It's possible a decent number of people took a break after the issue with the "former" owner/creator was exposed. More likely it's that a lot of the activity here has moved over to facebook groups

This topic comes up every so often. I prefer quality to quantity and really don't notice much difference there. Joined this site a few years ago when planning a Disney trip after not being there for several years and wanted input on things like FastPass or DME which didn't exist when we were last there.

I have no interest in many of the threads and have put a lot of people on ignore. Knowing what day of the week others get their trash collected is of no value to me but apparently some enjoy those topics. I belong to several non-disney forums and they are all about the same. Some do a better job moderating the discussions to keep things from getting out of hand. If I want to see people argue with each other, I can always pick any of those social media sites where everyday seems to be a free-for-all or someone is always 'outraged' about something................LOL.

Just think how few topics there would be, at lest here on the community board if the few prolific posters didn’t post the random threads.

Not a knock on anyone as I value everyone’s opinions even when they are wrong (aka I don’t agree with them). Just noticing the volume and playful banter on topics seems to be going down a good bit.

This, a lot of traffic has flowed over to Facebook Groups. DIS even has several groups themselves that pull traffic which might have ended up here.

I've noticed the same. I used to come around here in the middle to late 2000s and things seemed much busier. Though actual traffic data (if ever provided) could prove me wrong.

Honestly, I think it's just that there hasn't been a lot of news to discuss. The planning boards for WDW and DL seem pretty active and healty because those folks are actively planning trips, etc. There just haven't been a lot of exciting Disney announcements to get the News and Movies boards talking.

Good point Brian. I think Marvel and Lucasfilm are busy working hard to reset their strategies. So not much news on either one of those, and they drive a good bit of discussion. Also the writing and acting strikes slowing things down a good bit.

I think discussion forums like this are becoming a thing of the past. Not that it's a good thing, it just is. When the Disboards were born in the late 90s it was a hotbed of activity, but eventually attrition set-in, it was inevitable.

I'm still here because I'm very fond of a number Dis-ers, several of whom I've met and become good friends with IRL.

I think it's been slow too. Saw the DisUnplugged is now DisUnlimited and wondering if this will close and something else open in its place.

It has definitely dwindled over the past 20 years. I also think many posters haven't even been to Disney or a DCL cruise in years, but still enjoy their DIS friends - which I think in turn keeps the resort, dining, and parks threads quieter.

On a side note, I always laugh that people complaining about topics on the CB can't seem to restrain themselves from commenting on the CB threads

I found that it started going down in volume even pre-pandemic.

During the early parts of the pandemic there were more threads either related to covid (that ended up becoming a no-no topic for several years) or as a result of the pandemic such as the funny meme thread or the quarantine and chill thread.

Several years ago posters left the boards and then you had more during the most recent issue. And the pandemic shifted a lot of interests I think to other stuff.

For the park planning side I think a lot changed due to the pandemic. You had such different rules for a while that then became obsolete quickly enough. Primarily you just have talk nowadays about VQ and Genie+/ILL but some of the past strategy discussions just aren't relevant any longer. Even park reservations are about to become in several months a thing of the past for strategy or "how to" talk for date-based tickets and that took up a lot of talk too.

And I do agree that actual forums are less utilized than they might have been in the past.
